NOW It Makes Sense Why Preachers Need Private Jets

JustSaying says...

Yeah, I need privacy when talking to god as well. You know, all that private stuff, masturbation fantasies, my kill list and dream casting for the Teletubbies movie.

Can't do that on an airliner either.

It had some pretty... er... powerful quotes in there. The Brad Pitt comments after Norton slugged him on the cheek were not quite the same words you'd hear on an episode of Teletubbies, for example. Leonardo and Jack prolly could have used a little mouthwash too.

If I could vote on my own salary, you could bet your genitals that I'd be there to have my say and furthermore you could be sure I wouldn't vote for less money.
And if I received that salary wether I show up for work every day or not, I'd spend much more time at home masturbating to my favourite Teletubbies video.

Maybe that's a problem. Maybe some people shouldn't be able to control the terms of their own employment that much. I certainly can't.

@VoodooV far be it from me to side with choggie, but he's spot on about major political parties being "the same." Even with 3-4 parties to choose from in Britain, what we actually get is a change of figurehead. What we refer to as "democracy" in both our countries is not fit for purpose and does not represent the best interests of the people.

There's a wonderful indictment of British politics that i've seen floating around. It shows the political debate over changes to the welfare system and the chamber is empty save for 5-6 people. The debate about proposed increases to MP's pay shows a picture of an utterly packed house. That's a modern politician.

People are just too spoiled through our society. You grow up as a child, being dragged away and saved from even the slightest bad stuff. In TV you only see happy happy stuff that causes grown ups to feel the urge to barf (Teletubbies for example), and even as a grown up, you are not encouraged to deal with bad stuff and just ignore it with phrases like "its below your standard".

The fact of the matter is that there are many, many very unhappy people, who cant just swallow their misery and poop it out as a smile as many of us may have learned. I mean look at Facebook. Why is there no dislike button? Why do people always get so personal and defensive when you criticize them or their work even objectively? Especially women tend to see things much more personal than men because most of the time they have been cared and "saved" much more, and thats also part reason why there are less women channels, as she put so well.

There are simply people like this and the Internet allows them to openly say what they think. Not to mention that a huge part of those are just stupid jokes that are not meant to hurt anyone. Thats the fucking Internet and society and also shows us problems that need to be fixed PROPERLY. If you cant deal with it, you should go somewhere else where you can concentrate on your mental rainbows only.

We have forgotten how to deal with criticism and unhappy people. Instead we ignore them, generalize them, and make things even worse with that ignorance and then we are surprised when it comes back to us sooner or later at twice or more the power.
Seriously, especially from scientists I expect more thinking than this stupid generalization.
Criticism is an essential part of democracy, freedom and science.

Oh and that doesnt mean one should tolerate crap like that silently, but instead blame the culprit which is our society and that ultimately means we need to change ourselves. We cant change people, we can only change their surroundings, so they change on their own.

I'm not sure I see what all the fuss is about, though that may be because I don't really "use" the channels at all aside from ticking some boxes when I post a new Sift.

You should try it and you'll quickly see why it's a problem. Browse to a channel that sounds like it might be interesting and see how many videos would actually scratch that itch. Results will vary wildly depending on what you choose.

If drugs are your topic of choice, you may find yourself watching teletubbies today.

If human sexuality intrigues you, prepare to watch 2 cats have sex while a third dry humps them.

Does the far east fascinate you? You'll be sorting through every video that contains an Asian person. It could be a video of some guy who's lived in San Diego his entire life watching an NFL game, drinking a Budweiser, and eating a hot dog but if he's got an epicanthus, he's going in #asia.

Lots of people (most, if I had to guess) just don't care. But then why are we spending all this time cataloging videos if nobody gives a shit?

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right. Let's either make a good effort to make channels valuable, or get rid of them altogether and just do this because it will be way less work.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Trailer #1

schlub says...

I think it will be to an extent especially at the beginning but... at the same time, the majority of people who will see this movie (as was the case with LOTR) will never, ever read a book (I'm looking at YOU americans!). So, they would not understand why The Hobbit is so ridiculous and childish as compared to LOTR. I for one would be disappointed if the movie were done in exactly the same spirit/tone as the novel (the book was for kids after all).

In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat; it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.

I'd feel like I was watching teletubbies if the movie were presented in such a way

It should be lighter, funnier and more whimsical than its sequel.
