Train Plowing through the Snow

Hypnotic train journey in Norway

I've got the 21GB file and streamed it to my Xbox. Those tunnel sections are very long and very dark...
you sure they just didn't added empty chunks to make it longer?>> ^rebuilder:
So where's the rest of it?

set it to loop and you'll get the rest
can't tell one snowy hill apart from the other.

Harry Potter's owl, Hedwig, was a Snowy owl. I presume that the owl here is presumed to be a Snowy.

And he uses the owl for communication (envelopes). Also, this owl makes dial-up tones.

No Country For Old Men - The Ending Scene

shuac says...

This is the way I took it, Rasch (not that you're still confused).

Ed Tom (TLJ) has decided on retirement rather than bringing the killer to justice. He found the killer but he retires because he realizes that Texas is essentially No Country for Old Men. So he tells his wife about a dream: heading into snowy, dangerous mountains on horseback and his father carrying fire, goes on ahead of him to await him.

This idea of father & son carrying fire is also explored in The Road, McCarthy's follow-up to NCFOM, as the man and the boy seek to establish their place in the overwhelming bleakness of their existence.

The Sheriff knows he's outmatched by this new kind of evil (Bardem) and since he's older now than his father ever was, the dream is kind of an acceptance of his retirement, a "letting-go" of this hazardous job so he can follow the fire of his father. Perhaps he feels he owes it to his father to continue to survive, since he's older.

Like Bob Dylan said, "Momma, take this badge offa me, ... I feel I'm knockin on heaven's door."

The Weakerthans "Tournament of Hearts"

calvados says...

http://lyrics.wikia.com/lyrics/The_Weakerthans:Tournament_Of_Hearts

Now the lounge is full of farmers for the 7:30 draw
Teammates all left before they had to buy a round
When they pull the 50/50 and I've lost again, I'll go
Maybe have one more brown one for the snowy road

All the championship banners going yellow on the wall
Add my name when it gets closer to last call

So Elvira brings my bottle, hold it up and let it bend
Figures of two rinks battling an extra end
And I'm peeling off the label as they peel a corner guard
Dance down the sheet to the tune of "Hurry, Hurry Hard"

And my popcorn squeaks a question
Wonders why I'm not at home
Where you wait beside a silent telephone
Doodle circles within circles all alone

Have to stop myself from climbing
On the table full of empties to yell why

Why, why can't I draw right up to what I want to say?
Why can't I ever stop where I want to stay?
I slide right through the days
I'm always throwing hack weight

Right off, no never never ever ever
Right off, no never never ever never
Right off, no never never never ever
Right off, no never ever never ever

Now the senior Bonspiel winners, circa 1963
Are all staring, glaring disapprovingly
From their frame in that old photograph at me

And I know you're out there waiting
For an answer I can't give you
So tell me why

Why, why can't I draw right up to what I want to say?
Why can't I ever stop when I want to stay?
We roll right through our years, we drip right through our months
We slide right through our days, I'm always throwing hack weight

Right off, no never never ever ever
Right off, no never never ever never
Right off, no never ever never ever
Right off

Tiny Mouse Gets Tail Stuck In Honey

grahamslam says...

So my house is out in the woods and needless to say a lot of mice come in especially when it gets cold. I have these clear plastic trap door live mice traps that work great. I usually drive down the street and let them go...hoping maybe they find a new home in some neighbors house or something.

This winter it has been particularly cold and snowy and I've been too lazy at midnight when I catch them to shovel the driveway so I just toss them out the back door. The next morning I catch the rascal again. I can see the little footprints in the snow running right back to the house and somehow making its way inside again. One plump mouse in particular went through this routine for a week or so until I finally drove him away. He seemed tamer than the rest. I named him boomerang. I miss that little sucker. The end.

S'all good. Animals come and go, but, yes, it is a very strong connection. I like to think we buddied up with dogs during some cold, rainy (snowy?) day, sharing a cave. We probably recognized eachother's strength, as well as a similar compassion.

In reply to this comment by dag:
I'm sorry for your loss. The relationship between humans and dogs is a really interesting one. I wonder how we first buddied up? I'm guessing they were hanging around the campfires getting the bones that we dropped. Seems like we would have trained rats first though - if that's how it started.

In reply to this comment by poolcleaner:
Outside dog, and, not to turn this into the most tragic exchange I've had about a deceased animal, I had to put him down several weeks ago.

In reply to this comment by dag:
Really? While he was walking? That's probably just incontinence. I hope you don't have carpeted floors. ;-)

In reply to this comment by poolcleaner:
Dude, my dog did this all the time.

In reply to this comment by dag:
Wow, I've never thought of trying that. This man is an innovator.

Bionic Commando - Smash and throw

Re-armed was so well done. They retained everything good about the NES Bionic Commando, while giving us stunning presentation and some nice additional replay value. I'm waiting for the memory to fully fade so I can play through it again some snowy weekend.

... Mon étoile filante

Mais au bout du ch'min dis-moi c'qui va rester...
Mais au bout du ch'min dis-moi c'qui va rester...

... Que des étoiles filantes

***English translation
If I stop a moment
To tell you about my life
Just like that, quietly
In a bar on St-Denis

I'd tell you the memories
Well-etched into my memory
From that time when aging
Was still but illusory

When I annoyed the little girls
Not far from the swings
And my bag of marbles
Became a real treasure

And these snowy winters
Of constructing igloos
And going back inside with frozen feet
Just in time for Passe-Partout

But at the end of the road tell me what will remain
Of the little school and the playground?
When the paper planes no longer fly on the wind
We tell ourselves that the good times are finally ending...

...like a shooting star

If I stop a moment
To tell you about life
I note that quite often
We do not choose but we endure
And that the dreams of little lads
Dissipate or collapse
In this hard reality
Which casts us in the mold

The thirties, the belly
The kids, the mortgage
The pleasures and the sorrows
The strokes of luck and the failures

Working, doing one's best
And struggling, and getting out
And hoping to be happy
A little before dying

But at the end of the road tell me what will remain
Of our little passage through this mad world?
After having existed to buy some time
We'll tell ourselves that we were in the end

...but shooting stars

If I stop a moment
To tell you about my life
Just like that, quietly
Not far from St-Louis Square

It's only with you that I'm okay
And that I lost the taste to care
Because you know seeing too far ahead
Isn't better than looking backwards

Despite the old bitternesses
And the loves that pass
The friends we lose in the mists
And the ideals which fall apart

Life holds on and renews
Like the springtimes return
In a puff of fresh air
Which appeases pained hearts

So if tonight you want to stay
With me, the night is soft we can walk
And even if we know that all lasts but a time
I'd like you to be for a moment...

...My shooting star

But tell me at the end of the road what will remain...
But tell me at the end of the road what will remain...

...Just shooting stars
