Runaway Train Montage

BSR says...

Gotta give it to the camera crew having to be out in that cold, windy, snowy weather and all that steel. Those engines are bad ass looking.

Window. Owl. Letter. World fame

StukaFox says...

There's a Snowy Owl in my neighborhood that hangs out on the roof of the house down the street. When it's out, half of fucking Seattle shows up to look at it. The street -- which is a car-width wide -- clogs and cars back onto the main thoroughfare, then people who live here get all pissed and start yelling at the people looking at the owl and the owl-watchers yell back at them; cars honk and run into each other.

Meanwhile, the owl just sits there with the troll face on and enjoys the show.

How Much Fuel Needed to Idle or Turn OFF / ON

BSR says...

Back in mid 80's I had a '66 Dodge Coronet. I got to work one cold and snowy day just a little early.

I sat in my car with the engine idling while listening to Pink Floyd on the 8-Track.

I went into work and forgot to turn the engine off. 8 hours later I was the only one whose car wasn't covered in snow.

It used just about a half tank of gas in 8 hours.

That's the price I paid to climb into a warm car.

Here's Why You Need Winter Tires As Shown By A Tricycle

Payback says...

I felt the same way until I noticed the big knobby tires I put on my truck all the time were snowflake branded. One cheap time of my life, I bought a set of all seasons for ridiculous cheap on a kijiji style local website and after driving around a bit in some cold -albeit rainy not snowy- weather, I sold them and went down and got a set of the snowflakes again.

You may not "bother" getting them, but getting them and relaxing while driving instead of letting your obvious driving skill get overused will be nice. Just go grab a set of used ones. See what it's like. You'll choose them next winter.

I've lived in Minnesota my whole life and have never bothered with snow tires. I guess I'm just not too keen on paying 1000 bucks or more on a set of tires I probably won't use for even half the year. Upvote because the trikes are kinda cool looking, but the commercial itself is nothing special.

Cars on ski slopes, 2 WD, 4 WD, and 4x4 snow tires rule

SFOGuy says...

Oh, one other funny trick I've used when stuck with a front wheel drive car going up a hill that refuses to go; turn around and BACK up the hill (Obviously, NOT on a public road, but very useful on snowy driveways and a private road that a friend lives up...)

That way---and yes, it's only marginal---but that way, the weight shift puts the weight onto the driving wheels instead of taking it off them as the car rocks backwards under acceleration...

You don't start in first gear going up a snowy hill. Everyone knows that.

Of course, if you live anywhere where it snows regularly, you just buy all-weather tires and leave those on all the time.

What are those floaty things in your eye? (TED-Ed lesson)

deathcow says...

@Fairbs I have good days and bad days with them... but the good days are when I am inside not looking at blue skies : ) Or snowy fields, that can be bad. I actually switch my videosift to black and for my job (as software developer) I switch my editors to black backgrounds also. This minimizes their appearance.

For telescopes and microscopes , I use binoviewers which dramatically reduce the perception of floaters as two eyes are averaged out.
