The Last Guardian - E3 2015 Trailer

ChaosEngine says...

It will eventually (when we can run PS4 emulators )

So are Team ICO developing this or not? It's certainly got that desaturated look of Ico and-and Shadow of the Colossus, in fact, it really does look like a PS2 game in terms of the engine.

But I care not one solitary rats arse about the engine. The animation is beautiful and the architectural design is stunning.

Ico and SotC were amazing games. They had great puzzles and genuinely engaging stories, all without a line of understandable dialog.

If this actually comes out, I will rent a PS4 to play it, and it will wreck me

Dog annoyed by shadow puppet

phyman says...

Bummer. I was waiting for the dog to turn around and bite the owner's hand. All the while only seeing that in the shadows.

Gabe & Tycho Murder Everything in Africa

poolcleaner says...

I can't fathom the number of animals I've murdered in video games...

I believe I've killed at least 1000 boars in one sitting. We're digital mass murderers! But that's ok, I have also been digitally sentenced, imprisoned, digitally raped and murdered, and digitally risen from the grave to have my vengeance on the Tolkien universe --

The numbers of elves and dwarves and humans and gnomes that have met their untimely death at my undead hands, wrapped in leather, cloaked in shadows -- another very large number of killings.

You may refer to me as a High Warlord of Blackrock Mountain. Rawr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Death to ALL life! May the black dragonflight rise again! May they roast endless numbers of sheep.

Amazing use of shadow and light

Passenger - Travelling Alone

Zawash says...

australian man
scandinavian tan
kicking stones round a square
he sat for a while
and carved out a smile
as if someone would care

said I’m a long way from the gold coast
furthest I’ve ever known
oh and this just ain’t my home
it was my wife’s idea
but she’s no longer here
she left me travelling alone

I’ve never heard silence
ring out like a bell
I’ve never heard silence
like last night in my expensive hotel
well I’m loving a shadow
and trying to catch the rain
but I never heard silence
'til I heard it today

well she walked out of the hotel
I could still smell the smoke
of a burning heart left inside
she said men are all arseholes
and life’s a bad joke
she laughed and started to cry

see ten years with this man
and a lifetime of plans
oh and I loved him to his bones
but now I’ve lines on my skin
and he’s traded me in
and left me travelling alone

well I never felt silence
hit me like a train
I never felt silence
like blood course through my veins
well I’m loving a shadow
and trying to catch the rain
I never heard silence
'til I heard it today
I never felt silence
'til I felt it today

Game Maker's Toolkit - Redesigning Death

ChaosEngine says...

Great video.

So given that we're talking about single player games here, I think procedural or dynamic narrative similar to Shadow Of Mordor will be the next advance in game tech.

We're already well past the point of diminishing returns in terms of graphics, so I can see devs allocating more of the processing budget to AI systems that allow narrative branching, etc.

Moon shadow during sun eclipse chases a plane

It was pretty much completely overcast here in the UK...somewhat ironically the best view I got was from checking the weather using a weather satellite that also picked up the shadow moving across Europe.

The Last Ever Top Gear

A10anis says...

You are mistaking stupidity for racism. If you have never used a derogatory epithet, even once in your life, then well done. But I am sure you have thought of one; we all have. Clarkson, on many occasions, does not temper his speech with forethought. However, his attempts at humour do not qualify him as a racist. True racists hide in the shadows or stick with like-minded people. Oh, and btw, his Jaguar-toilet comment was funny. I imagine that because I thought so I am, based on your criteria, also a racist.

ChaosEngine said:

Let's see: during the incident in question, he called the produced a "lazy irish cunt" (and as much as everyone thinks it's fucking hilarious, racism against the Irish is still racism)

Then there was the "slope on a bridge" incident.

Not to mention the "catch a nigger" quote, or the mexican incident or the Indian special, during which Clarkson built a toilet into the back of a Jaguar, claiming it would be "perfect" for tourists because "everyone" who visits the country suffers diarrhoea, sparked a complaint from the Indian High Commission.

Nah.. no evidence at all.

TIE Fighter - Epic Anime short - Go Empire!!

MilkmanDan says...

Nope. I have been a big Star Wars fan since I was a young kid (not quite old enough to have seen ANH or ESB in theaters, but I did see RotJ on the big screen, plus of course watching them all on TV many many times growing up) but somehow I missed out on those games.

Quick google shows Wing Commander 1 as 1990, Wing Commander 3 at 1994, TIE Fighter also in 1994, and X-Wing Alliance in 1999. I played those Wing Commander games (and others), and played a lot of Star Wars games during that span, including stuff like Shadows of the Empire and Rogue Squadron for N64. But somehow the X-Wing and TIE Fighter stuff stayed off my radar at the time.

Should I check GOG?

Koch Brothers Can't Stand Their Own Organizations

poolcleaner says...

I really like this idea of systemically ostracizing large portions of the population so that they have to work outside the system itself. Creates an almost shadow world of wow, who knows what goes on in this mass populace of unemployable criminals... Where would they go? Australia's full. Mars!! We send them to Mars. What does this ultimately lead to?

Oh, I know -- StarCraft

THE AMIGA YEARS!

Grimm says...

My Amiga 2000 is stashed away in a closet somewhere. Also had a 500 at one time but eventually sold that.

Shadow of the Beast was a classic and many other impressive games from Psygnosis...graphics and the music.

Lemmings, Out of this World, Monkey Island, Dune II, Stunt Car Racer...even liked the text based Infocom games like Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and The Lurking Horror.

THE AMIGA YEARS!

Phooz says...

My brother and I loved our Amiga! I remember a lot of games. One we were super enamored with was Shadow of the Beast (which at that age was brutally hard) it caught our imaginations. The other thing that was fun to play with was a speech program making for hours of fun having the computer swear

The One Ring Explained. Lord of the Rings Mythology Part 2

gorillaman says...

Isildur wears it while escaping his ambush by orcs, and does indeed turn invisible before it slips off his finger. Unfortunately the argument is available that he, like the hobbits, has every reason to value stealth in that moment. It's notable that both he and Frodo are made aware (in Frodo's case by Galadriel) that the ring's real strength is beyond them.

Bombadil wears it briefly as well, of course, and doesn't vanish. But he's a pain in the ass. Others might say it's because he's an ainu, duh. Or shut up, he's a deliberate anomaly. I'd claim, not with a tremendous amount of canonical justification it has to be said, that it's because he's all physical; a personification of middle-earth and even the ring can't shove him into the shadow world.

ChaosEngine said:

Regarding the ring and invisibility, do we ever see/read about anyone except Sauron or the hobbits (incl gollum) wearing it?

I could be wrong, but I don't remember any of the humans or elves wearing it. So it's possible it does grant other wearers different abilities.
