Oliver Anthony - Rich Men North Of Richmond

newtboy says...

I guess you didn’t read…when he finally put out a personal statement, it was mostly about how upset he was at the right co-opting his song because wrote it about them.

The audience however heard every dog whistle, and when they found out he wasn’t racist and was singing about right wing politicians not Biden they dropped him like a hot potato. I’m afraid you are wrong again, the right definitely heard those dog whistles and are pissed he didn’t intend them.

Easy…when he said he thinks diversity is a strength of America, nearly half his right wing audience said “I’m out” and “try saying that in a small town” and no longer call themselves fans…because they’re racist and thought he was too. You can find thousands in the comments sections where his videos were posted before he spoke out. Here’s 8-10…Just read some…

I’m afraid it’s just know nothing people who latched onto what they heard as a racist anti welfare, conservative song who suddenly ran for the hills when they realized it and he were in fact anti conservative that suddenly hate this song. I admit I listened to it through “conservative ears” (since it was billed as the new conservative anthem) and I also heard every dog whistle they did, meaning it’s a really poorly worded song since so many got its message completely wrong. Even the Republican debate used it, which he found hilarious since the candidates were exactly who he wrote it about…but they were clueless about the irony.

He should have taken the $8 million, he’s going to fade into obscurity without the political backing he was getting.

So let me ask, now knowing he was talking about conservative politicians not liberals, and knowing he believes in diversity not tribalism…are you still a fan? (I know, you don’t/can’t answer questions). I’m not, despite learning all we now know about his intended message…but I retract my accusation that he MEANT it to be racist or hyper conservative.
Yes, I was w-w-w-wrong about HIM, but not his audience or the message they heard. Not the first or last time, but I can admit it when I’m wrong.

You ever think that you are totally wrong on this .

Not racist, Not Anti American, Not MEGA.

Perhaps you are hearing another "dog whistle". Odd thing is that only democrats hear these dog whistles.

People are tired of being screwed and not listen to by their government.

If racist as you say fined a non media reaction to this that indicates so. Find 3

Perhaps its know it all people like you who want to divide people, who want to keep poor people down just for their vote.

Colbert To Trump: 'Doing Nothing Is Cowardice'

scheherazade says...

Precisely. They have those guns in their hands, and don't shoot people.

The only things that I ding Hillary on are :

- Being a part of installing missile launchers on Russia's eastern border, and giving the asinine explanation that it's "to defend against Iran". Antagonizing Russia is so unnecessary and so old. I swear some people are just thirsty for the cold war to return.

- Cheating with the DNC in the primaries and screwing Bernie out of a win... who by the way could have carried the general election against carrot head. I'd rather have the Bern than either a sellout or a clown.

One side sees the other as paranoid.
The other side sees the first as short sighted.

I don't expect to be in a crash, I still prefer to wear a seat belt. But by all means, I don't care if someone chooses not to.

And yet, gun laws DEMONSTRABLY work in other countries. There are plenty of other countries with high gun ownership rates (Canada, for instance), but nowhere outside the 3rd world has anything like the gun-related death rate of the US.

Meanwhile, you are caught up in some ridiculous fantasy where you save America from imaginary Hitler.

Comcast Repairmen Unconcerned Of Wrecks They Are Causing

Mordhaus says...

Not sure if they have it set up like they do elsewhere and the way other companies do it (like Time Warner/Spectrum did here in Austin), but most of these workers will likely be contractors and the only relation to Comcast they will have is the name on the trucks.

The modus operandi was, and maybe still is, issue an apology, fire the specific contractor, and hire another. When these people go to sue Comcast, their lawyers will tell them that the people were not directly employed by Comcast and therefore are culpable separately. Then you get into the whole hassle of trying to track down the contractor, who usually disappears and reappears under a different name.

I remember getting pissed at Time Warner (pre-sellout) because one of their people trespassed on my property and left my gates open. Fortunately my dogs didn't leave, but they could have. He had right of way to cross one gate because their pole is considered part of the 'easement' to the utility company's equipment. The second gate was padlocked and he cut it off because he didn't have a proper ladder to reach the pole, I assume. I called them and they first tried to BS me that the easement covered both gates, but I told them I had the surveyors confirm it didn't when I redid the fence the year before. Then they said that they weren't the direct employer and the guy was a contractor. I asked for info and they gave me his company name only after I complained to a supervisor. His company had a web page, but none of the numbers worked and the 'business address' is basically a knife sharpening shop in central Austin. Time Warner apologized when I called back, but the most they could do was give me a couple of free months service.

The Oregon Fail

This video has a lot of votes but no commentary. These guys are probably assholes, but already it is known that a more than likely government agent posed as Bundy on Twitter as a racist fucktwat. Maybe Bundy is a racist asshole but what I see is government induced propaganda introduced in order to help people to let go of the topic of taking the government head on, or maybe I've just watched too much of Making a Murderer. It's the exact same shit. Fuck the FBI. Fuck the police. Fuck the courts. Fuck the brainless citizens/jurors that eat the propaganda like a quarter pounder with cheese and a late day sausage mcmuffin. cuntz. Colbert is a sellout.

Just saw a clip of Michelle Obama as one of the first 'guests' on the re-vamped Tonight Show....Sick, twisted, shit. Hope against hope that Fallon isn't being forced or otherwise seduced to use his popularity, talent, and charm for yet another pep-rally for the political-subversion disinformation-infotainment machine.

Doubting this seriously.

Sellouts every one of 'em.

"Parrot" is right. I can't tell if it's his nasally voice or his tendency to deliver his BS in over-dramatic near-whisper, but he comes off as an extremely condescending and phony tool. His stance that Democrats promised things to the American people and didn't deliver was predicted near the beginning of Obama's term to be the main Republican talking point in 2012 as the Repugs joined in unanimity and became the "party of no". Unfortunately, Obama and the Democrats either ignored their mandate and capitulated on everything, or showed their true colors as the sellout blueblood corporatists they really are.

Either way, this guy is nothing but a Republican prag.

Anyway, you already know all this, you're the one posting some of the video's that bought me to the conclusion I did, so I would be interested to hear why you disagree with my position.

I agree with the points you made in this comment, just not your original one.

My only disagreement is that I think going around saying it's a "myth that there is actually a divide between Republicans and Democrats" doesn't help if what you want is to advance a progressive policy agenda. All that message does is demoralize liberals, and get them to disengage from the political process.

I don't mind Cenk coming down hard on Democrats for being idiots and sellouts. I think that's healthy and necessary, so long as it doesn't have the net effect of promoting the idea amongst liberals that Democrats are "just as bad" as Republicans -- they're not, not even close.

And while I really have not spent a lot of time listening to Cenk, I haven't heard him equate them, either.

On the other hand, I hear lots of right-wing people equate them, and then launch into how this means you should adopt their "small" government agendas, since politicians all suck, but Republicans are better because they make realize governments suck.

Exactly - why not just create a whole new character with his/her own original story. The Brown Recluse sounds like a great start and wont get the push-back that a converted Spidy will. What a great opportunity to start a new franchise!
>> ^KnivesOut:
Btw, The Brown Recluse would be an awesomely (in)appropriate super-hero name.

Because being controversial is sometimes interesting...also trying to hock a new superhero is very difficult, using one already established in a controversial way practically guarantees a HUGE sellout.

People can protest all they want, this is going to sell big just cause of the headlines.

Louis CK on Consumers and Capitalism (part 1/3)

One of the many reasons a decade ago I moved to the West Coast from the East Coast - fucking chain stores & outlets. God damn that shit. Don't get me wrong all that shit is all around the West Coast too - but it's not as prevalent. I mean, in my neighborhood people fought and won against a fucking American Apparel store going in. People have to wake up and fight back, stop being a bunch of cowards.

There aren't even any Starbucks in my neighborhood but there are tons of great coffee places that sell, really immaculately tasting coffee. To get to a Starbucks you'd have to go far, far away to get to one of those those sellout financial neighborhoods and then there's a Starbucks on ever corner and possibly a couple Starbucks per block. There's only one shitty corporation in this humongous neighborhood and that is a McDonald's. I have no idea how they did it.

It doesn't even make any sense. Yeah, if you want to get fat you could spend $7-8 on a shitty burger and some fries and some shitty sugar water or else you could go to one of the two hundred taquerias where you could get the craziest nachos you've ever seen that you'd be crazy to eat all by yourself for $5.50. And you get chips & salsa for free and dammit people, just drink water. It's also free.
