That $5k Nvidia card is a quadro. It's a workstation card, designed more for CAD or 3d visuals. I'm not sure the difference would actually be that big for games.

I was kinda disappointed they didn't go SSD for the storage, but holy roller-blaing christ..... quad titans!!!

As near as I can figure out on the Digital Storm website, a rig like this will cost about $17,236. The Titans are about $1k each but Nvidia has a card that's $5k.

Yep Quad, another thing you might consider; Americans have been groomed through the purification of language by journalists and politicians combined with a systematic elimination of critical thinking skills, to let themselves be raped by a handful of assholes. These same assholes speak of an out-of-date document in desperate need of revisions (many of these Kool-Aid drinkers on this very forum) and continually propose adjustments which send the experiment further down the highway to bankruptcy, diversion, ignorance and idiocracy.
Welcome to Earth, humans may present a problem, enjoy your stay.

One Pissed Off Democrat in Michigan Speaks Up

I am not a defender of all unions. There are many unions out there and I can't have the facts on all of them.

I have been in the workforce since I was a teenager in high school. I've worked a lot of jobs. All of them non-union. Not once did I have a wage that kept me above poverty. And these jobs were considered decent jobs. I never had a paycheck more than $12-13/h and Never did I have a job where I felt secure in my future.

My current job is the first job I've ever had that was unionized. I make about $22/h. Not an amazing paycheck for my line of work, definitely lower than in the public sector, but my job feels secure and I have a decent benefits package so I know my job will take care of my family.

I come from a northern town where forestry is the main industry. Mill jobs are all Union and it's a decent living. Most young people who start at the mill never leave because they just can't get that kind of pay anywhere else. To do so is to take a drastic cut in pay. I'm not talking a rich man's paycheck. I'm saying they can buy a house, feed their kids, buy a quad and go camping and fishing in the summer. Not extravagant but nothing to complain about.

Now, those mills like to restructure and cut and skimp and save money left, right and center. They run three shifts a day and they NEVER shut down. (OK, they shut down once a year at run-off but that's when the equipment gets serviced).

These mills make profits in the millions/billions for their shareholders. Don't you think for one second that without the unions, the Mills would cut salaries, skimp on safety and eliminate job security while slashing benefits. Everyone working those mills benefit from the presence of the union. They all pay dues, NO ONE complains and it's never been an issue. Ever.

If you don't want to be a union worker, you get a job in town at 1/3-1/2 the pay and no job security. No one holds a gun to your head and tells you where to work. But if you want to get a job with a pay check you can raise kids on, then let the union stand behind you and defend you.

How NOT to Get a Quad out of the Water

VideoSift 5.0 bugs go here. (Sift Talk Post)

jimnms says...

The new site is a resource hog. Tonight was the first time I've visited VS in a few days. I did as I normally do and opened several videos in background tabs. When I tried to watch a video it was extremely choppy. I thought it was that one video so I went on to the next, but they were all doing it. I then noticed my CPU fan was louder than normal, so I opened up Process Explorer and see Firefox using up 25% CPU (which is 100% of one core) and the memory usage was counting up like a clock.

I restarted Firefox and opened one video, but the video is still choppy. I opened the video in YouTube, and it was choppy there as well until I closed the VideoSift tab. Once the VideoSift tab was closed, the video played smoothly.

Right now with only this talk page open CPU usage constant around 10% and spiking up to 25% and even typing is laggy. I'm on Win7 64-bit with Firefox 17, Intel Core i5 quad core and 12GB RAM.

Are you, or will you be, a parent? (User Poll by xxovercastxx)

I had always figured, "Sure, I suppose I'll have kids some day." My wife didn't really dig the idea of kids, so I figured, "Sure, we'll be fine just enjoying ourselves for the rest of our days," because we always loved the idea of seeing the world and kids would just get in the way, we thought.

After returning from our first disappointingly anticlimactic trip to Europe, I started feeling, "Wow, is that all there is to life? There has to be more." Generally I started looking forward to my deathbed and knowing I'd look back regretting that I never experienced fatherhood. The seed was planted a month later.

My second son is on the way and due 7 weeks from today, and my first son is now 20 months old. It's just not possible to completely explain to someone else how incredible and fulfilling it is, but it has already been the experience of a lifetime, and I wish I'd gotten started when I was younger. Now I've decided I'm too close to 40 to have any more, otherwise I'd have shot for a quad of small fries.

Parenthood isn't for everyone, so I don't wish it upon anyone, especially not self-centered/egocentric people who would just bring more undesirable dipshits into the world.
