Guy in wheelchair gets taken down by two cops

MaxWilder says...

>> ^DrewNumberTwo:

We see a man sitting in a chair for 4 seconds before he is immobilized by the police. How exactly did you determine that he has mobility issues? For all we know, he could have just thrown the owner of the wheelchair to the ground and ridden his chair down the block. And let me kick start your imagination regarding reasons to body slam him: He was armed with a knife, or a stun gun, or an extending baton, or a gun, or brass knuckles, or just his own knuckles. He was assaulting the officers, or bystanders, or family members, or children. He was resisting arrest for an extended period of time, or trying to evade the officers. Again, we have HALF THE STORY at best.

He has mobility issues. Clue number 1: HE NEVER MOVES HIS LEGS.

Like I said, I don't like choosing a side when we have only half the story, but common sense leads me to side against the two officers body-slamming a skinny old dude. If he had just thrown somebody from the scooter, where is that person? If he had a weapon, why are the officers not seen putting an object into evidence?

The reaction of the crowd and the behavior of the officers after the take-down indicates that the worst thing that the guy could have done was mouth off and maybe take a weak-ass swing at one of them.

I'm certainly open to other possibilities, but you gotta come up with something realistic. I was the one throwing out possibilities for the video where a cop tackles a teenage girl, but this crosses even my line of acceptable police precaution.

Dr. Michio Kaku on The Japanese reactor accident

gwiz665 says...

Being a physicist doesn't really give you the expertise to run a nuclear power plant, that's more engineering work. Kaku may be a good physicist, but he may not have a clue as to how you actually run the plant and what safety precautions are there.

Giant Whirlpool In Japan After 8.9 Earthquake

POV of Motorcycle Versus Deer at 85 MPH

Darkhand says...

There will always be people who want to ride fast and we can't change that. Just like there will be people who always want to own guns, or drink alcohol, or whatever.

The only thing we can hope for is that people do it in the safest way possible.

Now I know not everyone that drinks alcohol rents a room for the night to make sure they don't drive drunk, or stumble into the road and cause an accident, or throw up on some strangers shoes igniting a huge drunken brawl.

I know not everyone that owns a gun will always shoot it at a range or in a sanctioned hunting area.

It's the same way that not everyone who wants to ride a motorcycle fast will always take it to the track.

I understand why everyone here is upset. But we can't stop everyone from doing everything that is wrong all the time. Is what these riders doing wrong? Yes. Is it dangerous? Yes. But at least it's on some middle of the road nowhere (yes there are houses in the beginning but after that it looks like farmland) place. I didn't see a school bus stop or an orphanage or some kind of cute animal factory. I'm not saying it wasn't there, but I highly doubt these people would take their very expensive motorcycles on this road in such a large group if they thought there was a chance of their bikes getting wrecked.

If anyone here truly truly can tell me they always take all precautions necessary in life, then they are a better person than I am. Otherwise I suggest everyone take a look inward and realize they do things that can potentially hurt other people too, but just always minimize the risk.

Inside Gaddafi's Bunker

BicycleRepairMan says...

Hmm.. "The kind of paranoia of Gaddafis innner circle.." Lets take a similar tour under the white house, the pentagon, 10.downing street, and see what kind of "Paranoia" resides in far less.. compromised countries, or how about the outside of the any Israeli embassy.. uh.. anywhere in the world..

I'm not denying Gaddafi is batshit insane, but these measures are seriously no more than standard precautions that any government makes for key personell. It's always interesting to see these things exposed, but seriously, I would expect nothing less from a dictator like Gaddafi.

I just reproduced it, which is weird since it was working fine after Lucky's comment Saturday. I was able to login at wiki (didn't get the login error), but was still logged out here at videosift.com. The wiki login doesn't seem stable either. Login info only seems valid on the Main Page, i.e., I'm not logged in when going to any other page on the wiki, but going back to the Main Page restores it (login info in header and edit links return).

Texting Fountain lady, Suing mall for her own dumb actions

Sagemind says...

Seriously?
I didn't say I had issues with being filmed.
I said I had issues with organizations that don't take precautions and proper procedures to protect the footage they gather. If you are going to go to the extent as to gather video footage of people going about their personal lives, at least have the respect to keep it protected!

>> ^MarineGunrock:

Sagemind, if you don't want the mall filming you, don't go to the mall. If you don't want the gas station filming you, don't get gas. It's their private property, they can do as they please.

"There" is defined as all of existence.

God takes you to "Beyond There," which is 1 percent farther from the edge of There.

Beyond There is comprised of 1 percent of all of There's existence.

The atomic composition of Beyond There is unknown, therefore we cannot assume that oxygen or carbon exist in Beyond There.

Thus, a trip to Beyond There could potentially be fatal. All risks should be assessed and all precautions should be taken before allowing god to take you 101% of the way there.

Young Boy strip searched by TSA

peggedbea says...

sure, except backscatter is the reasons radiology techs take the precautions they do with their own bodies and wear lead and stand behind walls. it's not high energy, but it isn't entirely benign either. a 60 year old flying once or twice a year, i would not worry about at all.

but like you said, the cornea's of a child who flies a decent amount and grows up to be a business traveler, i'm more concerned.

you still get exposed to more radiation during your flight.

but since this is a TERRIBLE and EXPENSIVE way to fight terrorism, i hate it. and additional exposure to radiation is one of the reasons.

>> ^joedirt:

You can't compare backscatter to equivalent dosage. This isn't high energy X-rays that pass through the body. This isn't like high atmospheric solar radiation that passes through the body.
Backscatter X-rays work by being such low energy, they only penetrate a few mm into the skin then ionize and scatter X-rays to make the image. There is ZERO studies on what this does to children, corneas, or testicles.
