James A. White Sr.: The little problem I had renting a house

Embedded Racism for little girls. Thanks, Corporate America!

AeroMechanical says...

Well, I would say the important difference is whether their decision was based on statistics and decent market analysis, or whether it was just somebody's assumption. It certainly must be tricky when you have a line of products, the different models of which are specifically intended for a particular race. Then you have to look at the demographics of each race separately. You need racially divided focus groups and so on. Obviously, I don't know their particular story, but I wouldn't be quick to judge the company. Though it would be nice, capitalism doesn't generally allow companies to be fair and just for its own sake. If they're stuck with a quarter million unsold deluxe black dolls in their warehouse after christmas, some other less just company will eat their lunch. The free market isn't going to solve racism.

This situation is a nice, simple but poignant illustration of the effects of chronic systemic racism, but I wouldn't go looking for any causes of it here.

my mistake my friend.
i apologize,please forgive.
harris does tend to take a rigid interpretation, which is ironic considering that same rigid fundamentalism is the very thing he is criticizing, but he does make some very thoughtful and poignant points.

i think that this approach he takes is why i do not consider him a top atheist thinker.

Great style, loved the industrial design of the vehicles, poignant setting.
But, what was the thing on the ground at the end? A really uncomfortable looking engagement ring?

Sorry you felt so betrayed and that this was my response to your first submission in years, but my being an admin does not exclude me from having or sharing an honest opinion.

I wasn't expecting any kind of physical assault, and if there was any I would've down-voted rather than abstained.

It comes down to a simple matter of opinion. In mine, there wasn't anything said that was clever or witty or poignant or a real potent zinger. He didn't shut her down, he just kept trying and failing to give her a good tongue lashing and she still kept right on yelling back. (Being shut down requires a person to desist.)

While he was digging for something good to say I kept watching and listening and waiting for him to hit paydirt and finally put her in her place, but it never happened. I think it's a matter of managing expectations; perhaps if the title didn't mislead me into expecting her to really be shutdown I would have been more neutral about his failed attempts to shut her down (though I still wouldn't have voted).

I haven't posted a video in years. I finally find one that I thought was siftworthy and that i didn't think someone else would post, and this is what I get from you? I guess you saw the thumb and expected a woman to be attacked in some physical way. I find the dude's use of truth and humor to disarm far more enlightening, and is exactly the kind of culture I believe should be more prevalent in this particular forum. To say it shouldn't have made the front page, being who you are, is piss poor form, sir. Piss poor.

Stunning F/A-18E Super Hornet cockpit and carrier footage

I could write a poignant, thoughtful comment lamenting the money wasted on these things when children are starving and diseases need curing, etc., but fuck it, fighter planes are awesome.

I'd sell each and every one of you for organs to have a hoon in one of those.

Most Shocking Second a Day Video

I don't like manufactured videos, but because I agree so strongly with the message of "Just because it isn't happening here..." I have to upvote this.
These would be more poignant/accessible if they just showed dismembered bodies with the same message.
Despite that, since I was probably 10 years old, my faith in other people has been forever damaged by that "It doesn't affect my life" mantra. Regardless of my wealth, social status, or ease of mind, I will never live a consciously comfortable life while someone on this planet is being harmed by another.
People say I am and idiot/cheating myself, but I can't understand why more people don't look at the world this way.

Transformers: Age of Extinction Superbowl Teaser

Come now wordsworth, that picture you've painted is worth a thousand harsh critics ....of the glaringly obvious reality of your poignant, yet eloquently simple phrasing!

(We'd throw some'o 'that cotton-candy money over to the carnival midway by the way to actually see that (if it was a twin sister's contortionist act) before we'd spend a DIME on any Transformer's flick!)

It's OK, You Can Admit It!

It's not so much lazy comedy as it is a poignant statement on Scripted News, it shows even the banter on these shows is fake. Talentless clones, schlepping out a script. It's not news, it's fully scripted TV programming. These guys are not journalists, they're actors toting a script just like on any other TV comedy or drama.
It's clips like these that let us see the absurdity of it all. It lets you know that these genuine news personalities, are in fact not genuine at all.
And why does this network want you to not feel guilty if you shop for yourself at Christmas? Consumerism propaganda. Plain and simple.

PSA Against Driving While Deranged

poignant in Ottawa right now. Last week, a bus drove through the safety gates and crashed into a moving train. 6 dead, others injured. Still no word as to why the bus driver did not slow down (or maybe he sort of tried, depends on the witness.)

Mommy, Where Does Our Food Come From?

artician says...

Amazing. That was so artful and poignant. The last two shots were just... fuck humans. Haha.

EDIT: Just watched the full film. It's very reminiscent of the "Quatsi" films. After some digging, it turns out Ron Fricke (the creator of Samsara) was the original cinematographer for those as well.
I really love films like this, and this is probably one of the best yet. Amazing look at at human existence.
