Coulter stands by controversial word used to describe Obama

Sagemind says...

I dislike her and don't agree with any of her blunt, rude comments BUT the word retard has a definition and can used as such.

re·tard 1 (r-tärd)
v. re·tard·ed, re·tard·ing, re·tards
v.tr.
To cause to move or proceed slowly; delay or impede.
v.intr.
To be delayed.
n.
1. A slowing down or hindering of progress; a delay.
2. Music A slackening of tempo.

The word does not mean stupid - it means "To move slowly" and may be used in reference to someone who responds slowly. A very intelligent person can retard the process to get a clear perspective on the situation or to stonewall.
I use retardant in my paint so it drys slower.

Even used as a derogatory term, the word at best, means one is slow. I don't agree with her using the term in the way she did and she was clearly lashing out like a child having a temper tantrum but to the meaning of the word itself, I see so issues here.

Piers needs to let this one go and move on.

I learned you can always rely on Piers Morgan to defend the mentally deficient's monopoly on terms that offend them from falling in the wrong hands and holding them accountable.

And maybe he'll just listen in on their phone calls too just to be sure.

Ted Turner: American soldier suicides are 'good'

KnivesOut says...

Turner's apology for the comment: “During my recent interview on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight, I inadvertently used the word ‘good’ when asked for my thoughts on the increasing rate of suicide among U.S. military soldiers in the Middle East. It was certainly not my intent to imply that suicide is ‘good.’ Rather, I was implying that it is good that the public is more aware of these tragedies and is more averse to war and war-related fatalities

...

My message has always been one of peace, I believe that we’re born programmed to love and help each other, not to kill or hurt each other. I strongly support our U.S. troops and would never intentionally say anything to harm the brave men and women serving our country. I deeply apologize for any misunderstanding caused by this comment.”

Inarticulate way to express a nuanced position.

I don't understand. Why is this newsworthy.
Isn't she from Africa, wouldn't that be her native tongue?
Or are people somehow shocked that there are white people in Africa?

It's not...she's on Piers Morgan that's not the News.

I'm frankly impressed she has the class to not just say, "Gee thanks Piers, I love coming onto a show to be treated like a trained monkey."

Like wtf. "Huh-huh Huh-huh. Say something in African. Huh-huh Huh-huh."

The Worst Craft Idea Ever

Lann says...

I think a lot of it is books with monetary value or ones that could increase in value. Completly silly to use them on something that like @spoco2 said, is going to be thrown away in a very short amount of time.

You don't see as many people getting outraged about book art because those artist are elevating the book far past something that looks like it came from Pier 1 Imports.

As far as saying nasty things, that happens whenever anyone does something stupid on the internet.

>> ^Sagemind:

Although I think cutting up books is an incredibly bad idea for so many reasons, I am finding this notion incredibly entertaining.
This whole thing has stirred up quite a bit of hate and made her a laughingstock of the moment.
Do a google search on her name and there are reviews coming out completely debasing her, ans saying all kinds of nasty things - as is happening here.
But why? They are just books, they aren't even Holy books. This begs the question, "How sacred are our books?" What are your thoughts?

Alec Baldwin Flips A Question About Love To Piers Morgan

Deano says...

Actually I think it's a decent English accent, though I'd be stumped as to what part of the country it pertained to.

I'd call it BBC English? Sounds upper class, probably owns property out in the country.

Yeah, middle-England I guess, reasonably posh.
