New Rule: Distinction Deniers

Briguy1960 says...

What on earth do you mean by "can" lead?
We're already there.
Sadly sites like the one in question and even Hannity's show are useful in showing us the other side of the coin that big brother doesn't want us to see.
Society is a sick puppy.
Where losers rejoice at taking down anyone they "perceive" as being better than them.
(Kinda like that gangsta old lady parking violator video mentality on a larger scale)
The bit about the airlines was only a small part of the entire video and still holds up at any rate.
This is why men do have EVERY right to listen in and gosh darnit even COMMENT on the latest rules of conduct being introduced on how they should act and be treated in society.
I'm not even going to lower myself by entering the arguments here on what constitutes rape etc or how a broad slanderous brush will or will not solve the problems.
It's like dealing with people who sniffed glue or suffered brain trauma.
Like talking to anyone who actually thinks CNN is real news or isn't totally biased.
How it's totally ok for the FBI to do what it did and shame on anyone who tries to reveal it.
I always find it cute how CNN pushes news clips at you often not having anything at all to do with what you went there to read.
I am or was a liberal but this trend has gone far beyond troubling.

Penn Jillette: The Case For Libertarianism

Drachen_Jager says...

Libertarianism is for teenagers and idiots.

Any well-adjusted adult with any ability for critical thinking can see how stupid this is. Even his premise is idiotic. The government doesn't use guns to enforce parking violations (for example) they certainly don't use guns to provide healthcare to people. When was the last time a bus driver pointed a gun at you and said, "Get on the bus, it's public transit, cars are illegal now!"

Just because America has a lousy political system and therefore generally a string of bad governments, does not mean government is bad. It just means American government is bad. The countries with the highest levels of citizen happiness, the greatest spread of wealth, the highest education standards, the longest lifespans, the lowest infant mortality rates, the lowest crime rates, all have the kinds of governments Libertarians rail against.

Libertarianism, in summary, is childish, stupid, and immoral. No big surprise @bobknight33 is a fan then.

police detaining a person for no reason

GenjiKilpatrick says...

Lantern says...

"My buddy Fred pulled over a car with 4 people in it, every one was wanted!

ah the good old days

As far as what he pulled her over for...

you don't have to tell the truth on that one.

I once had a guy wanted on a felony drug offense, I told him I was arresting him for a parking violation.

Once I had the cuffs on him, I told him what it was for.."

It's called evidence, Lantern.
You know, that stuff you're supposed to collect before you accuse someone.

Like evidence of a "Law Enforcement Officer" - YOU - gloating and laughing about how you DON'T HAVE TO TELL THE TRUTH when detaining someone.

You're chuckling & reminiscing about the "good old days" when you got to lie in order to facilitate an arrest!!

OMFG you're a joke.

Your own personal anecdotes illustrate that..

police lie whenever the fuck they feel like they need to.

Why would I, @newtboy, or ANYONE EVER trust a cop?! O_o?!

Claimed Police Brutality - What is your take?

no shit

ah the good old days

(sorry, couldn't watch the whole thing with that howling going on)

As far as what he pulled her over for...you don't have to tell the truth on that one. I once had a guy wanted on a felony drug offense, I told him I was arresting him for a parking violation. Once I had the cuffs on him, I told him what it was for...that way he's more likely to not resist since he thinks it's for something minor...safer for both of us, win-win!

Mustang vs Smart car

AeroMechanical says...

I have a question about Smart cars. I see quite a few of them where I live here in the States, but I thought one of their primary features was that you could pull straight into what would otherwise be a parallel parking spot, yet I never see this done. Is it typically a parking violation to do that? That would be massively convenient if you could.

Russia 'struggles' against illegal parking (volume warning)

Sagemind says...

That can't be due to a parking violation.
They wouldn't destroy the car. Maybe that one car had been abandoned or didn't run any more and this was the cheaper alternative to a tow truck.

Riot Rant (Controversy Talk Post)

SDGundamX says...

Well, during the Rodney King riots in the U.S. it was basically the same situation as in London... people (including some of my friends, I'm ashamed to say) saw it as an opportunity. The police were overwhelmed and couldn't be everywhere at once, so throngs of (mostly young) people headed down to their local strip mall and grabbed anything they could carry. The justification my friends gave? Those places were being looted by other people anyway, so you might as well get something for yourself in the process. Plus some of them felt they were "sticking it to the man." They saw themselves as protesting the Rodney King verdict. If cops could get off for killing someone why shouldn't law abiding citizens get off for stealing a couple of items?

The rationalizations were, of course, ludicrous. But I think the whole rioting thing is a complex issue. My friends aren't thugs. Aside from the riots, the most trouble they've ever been in with the law since then are parking violations. Certainly there were genuine gang-bangers and other thugs out during the riots looking for trouble, but I think a lot of the rioters (both in London and Los Angeles) were just normal kids who succumbed to the excitement and temptation of mob mentality (see this article about the psychology of mobs).

$1870.00 Parking Fine

Porksandwich says...

>> ^deathcow:

How about when my parents (who have legal placards) drive to the airport and park handicapped and then fly out of state? I go there and pick their car up. I hop into the car in the blue zone. I drive off with their placard hanging. How would that go down?

It's very unlikely someone would be there waiting for you when flights come and go all night and day....so you can't really guess when someone will show up to get the vehicle.

I don't think there would be an issue personally. The difference is they drove themselves instead of you driving them there and parking to help them unload and cart in their bags for their flight. You're supposed to be able to park in handicap if any person in the vehicle has a valid placard. If there were an issue all you'd have to do is that your parents had a flight that day justifying the use of the handicap spot.

And I wish they would ticket more people for parking violations. Too many people park outside the lines, or across lines......block fire lanes for excessive amounts of time. I see people parking in the space they leave on the end of parking rows so people can stop and still see around vehicles to safely turn...making it really dangerous to manuever in parking lots since it forces you to either creep out to see or make a blind turn.

Mayor deals with illegally parked cars with a tank!

kymbos says...

My last cab driver told me how he spent half his time in court defending his wife against parking violations - using the Magna Carta and the Constitution. He reckons there's no traffic violation you can't beat if you know what you're talking about.

From a joint statement issued by Mayor Tom Richards, City Council President Lovely Warren and Rochester Police Chief James Sheppard: "We believe that the incident that led to Ms. Good's arrest and the subsequent ticketing for parking violations of vehicles belonging to members of an organization associated with Ms. Good raise issues with respect to the conduct of Rochester Police Officers that require an internal review. A review into both matters has been initiated."

Bus Slams Into Illegally Parked Porsche

Sagemind says...

I think it's a good example as to why the bus should have had its emergency break engaged!

The Porsche is guilty of a parking violation, no more.
The bus driver is at fault for causing the crash by accidentally knocking it into gear and sending it into traffic. He/she was lucky no pedestrians were present!

Bus Slams Into Illegally Parked Porsche

MaxWilder says...

Looks like the camera was mounted on a Police car or other law enforcement type vehicle like parking enforcement. It had just finished gathering evidence of the parking violation when the "accident" occurred, then moves off the road. Whoever was operating the camera then had some trouble moving it around back to the scene, probably was shaken by what had just happened and how bad it could have been.

BTW, this is certainly the bus driver's fault. He or she probably hit the gas instead of the brake while shifting into drive, and was then unable to find the actual brake quick enough.
