VLDL: When you forget someone's name - Forgetting Names

The best golfer, probably ever.

luxintenebris jokingly says...

BTW: since the talk is about putting things into a hole in the ground...

what's the deal w/the Omaha rally, Bob? There wouldn't have been that many frozen old people if they'd just stop counting them?

or should we wait until Fox, Rush, or the myriad of apologists supporting the president figure out why it was the fan's fault and not the star's?

heard a response, that people should have dressed for the occasion - and not wait for a warm bus ride back. older people forced to walk four miles only to be found wandering half-frozen unable to find their car. mainly because of hypothermia.

so appropriate. orange turning on the orange. the young sacrificing the old. poor planning by the poorly chosen. chaos. disorder. and donnie wouldn't be responsible for any of it.

that's on the nose.

surveying the responses to this snafu...it seems there's no way to fix this.

thought it might have been the president's decision to appear late at a closed event, turned open, in freezing temperatures was a lousy idea. maybe the chaotic challenge of going from 10k to 22k might have been over-optimistic by his rally staff. but the fellow rally-goers want to put the blame on other rally-goers (like president; like lemming).

wasn't don's fault, nor the event organizers, it was don's fans? so the problem was they liked him and his 'people' couldn't gauge the huuuge response? don didn't know. his people didn't know. it was because his fans didn't know better?

okay, get it now.

gee. one would have thought they'd been perfectly warm with all those hoods? bet they rue being p.c. and not burning crosses. that alone should have kept a wide number of them toasty.

US History: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO)

luxintenebris jokingly says...

why stop? follow up through the next 150+ years. things change. the g.o.p. certainly did. from 1854 to now it has swung from progressive to regressive.
- from freeing slaves to gambling w/school children's lives.
- from a giant of a man and a great leader; to a fat child and overeater.

learn history? slavery existed in all the states, champ.
learn history? try 'race riots omaha' in google*, then try to insinuate only southern democrats were dangerous.

and a bit off subject, but near and dear to your heart...

learn history? try explaining why don's university and his charity lost lawsuits then paid out large sums?

learn history? yes! but in all, it's horror and glory. not just that version where bob rescued his family leaving out the part where his lit bong, next to the porn mags, started the fire. (hypothetical example)

*one city. a horde of other tusla's in u.s. history

Its not that Slavery was a white issue. Not all whites were slave holders. You need to look at which group identified with slavery.

Vermont Becomes The First State To Pass Wolf PAC Resolution

VoodooV says...

You're not wrong. I'm actually glad I live in Nebraska, it's right wing obviously, but it's not total nutbag like the south. The Republicans in Nebraska did lose their shit in 2008 when the Omaha district voted for Obama and they tried to go back to winner take all. But I think cooler heads prevailed as if trends continue, urban populations will outstrip the rural areas and more traditionally red States start turning blue. At least in a split vote system, even if the state goes blue, the right still retains a minority voice instead of no voice. I had been following wolf pac but hearing about this makes me want to be a member now

Just for reference: the plain number of casualties at Omaha beach was comparatively small. Fighter-bombers caused higher numbers of casualties among motorised columns of German divisions in Normandy in a single day than the initial invasion or even the encirclement at Falaise.

If I remember correctly, the approach to the bridge of Oissel alone -- one of two bridges across the Seine in that area -- saw more deaths within a few hours at the end of August than Omaha Beach. All without any Allied ground forces present, just P47s, Typhoons and bombers. Same for the roads leading to Rouen and Elbeuf.

President Obama Addresses the Newtown, Conn., School Shootin

VoodooV says...

I agree, the media completely slobbers over this shit. I live in Nebraska and when we had the mall shooting in Omaha, I remember reading an article about it where the author seemed utterly gleeful and compared the shooting to us joining an elite club. I wanted to punch the guy.

Banning media coverage from this sort of stuff would have a significant impact I think since they do this to get attention and there is no bigger attention than national media coverage.

I'm sorry, we just don't need to have interviews and tons of photos. It's always the same thing. Of course they're traumatized, of course they're greiving, of course they're shocked. DUH. Even businesses latch on as much as they can use the tragedy as an excuse to post some fake mournful post on facebook/twitter/etc

An interesting difference in the case of China's offenses:
"After several such attacks since 2010, the government has ordered all schools to beef-up security and the official media stopped reporting the incidents to avoid copy-cat imitations."

A far cries difference on how the American Media reacts. They can't wait to get the scoop and evoke the biggest reaction. As far as they are concerned - it makes Good TV, which is sickening. The media is currently having a frenzy over this one vying to see who can get the best interview/scoop.

I know this is serious but "MEDIC!... MEDIIIIIC!" Where do these people think they are, Omaha fucking beach.

I get where you are coming from, and I pretty much agree that it is a bit overly dramatic. On the other hand, I can only say this:
If I was in that situation myself and was suddenly being rocked by flash grenade explosions and other shit popping off all around me, then saw some dude being limply carried away with a bloodied head, apparently unable to speak... I'd be pretty impressed with myself if I managed to shout something as coherent as "MEDIC!", rather than "blauahhahahhahhahghwaa".
That kind of adrenaline rush lets instinct take over rather than logic, so I can cut them some slack on the melodrama.

Maybe they were trying to get him Uber'd?
