Elder Scrolls online: the arrival trailer

I thought I heard that the MMORPG is being handled by a different studio and should have no effect the next single player Elder Scrolls game.

What really burns me is that they're wasting all this dev time on the project. Not only am I waiting a whole extra dev cycle for my next TES game...but the amount of money they're investing is staggering. What if this brings down the franchise? It's a bone headed move.

I don't have much interest in MMORPG's but that was a pretty cool movie, and with all that chain action going on I halfway expected to see Pinhead or some Cenobites come marching out of the dust.

It's not an MMORPG but if everyone is playing in the same persistent world, I fail to see how it's not an MMO.

I suspect it'll be somewhat similar to Eve, actually.

I've always wished MMOs were more world simulations and less traditional video games with a large number of players. I'm still not interested in paying a subscription, though, and I don't have the time that so many of them require.

He never really says that it's an MMO per se. He repeatedly avoided the question. The suggestion of persistence and "everyone in the same universe" could have some different interpretations. Fingers-crossed that if it's an MMO it's nothing like any ever made.

I've never played an MMORPG before in my life... but if DayZ get's a graphics overhaul like this, sign me up.

I'm only playing this game if I can play as the Techno Toad.

did anyone else get the feeling he was ranting against MMORPGs in general more than he was ranting about SWTOR?

But yeah, I'll admit my bias as I am playing the game and liking it. I totally agree that all the standard MMO complaints about quests and enemies all standing in random spots confined to a small area are ridiculous. MMOs need to undergo a major evolution, IMO for them to be truly fun but for now I totally accept that I have to live through the shitty parts of MMOs to experience the fun stuff.

TYT: Are Religious People Happier?

radx says...

Get into a team sport. Dress up, get together on the weekend, spend some quality time together, build a social network. You even get some workout done in the process. Much healther, less bullshit.

Or join the mafia. Join the armed services. Join a gang bang. Get into fight club - but don't talk about it. Or start playing an MMORPG. Or Dungeons and Dragons. Become a regular at a whore house.

Plenty of opportunities out there, man. Pick your poison.

Studio Ghibli's new PS3 game trailer

I always find it funny how different markets have their overdone cliches. Western console gaming is chock full of mindless gun-ho FPSs full of overblown alpha male characters, Japan can't seem to get over Final Fantasy styled RPGs, Korea is crazy about grind-tasting MMORPGs.

I also hate when people reduce things to the simplest common denominator to make a point. Your equality is like equating cricket and baseball as the same thing because you hit a ball with a bat.

Anyway, perhaps you can find more productive use of your time rather than passing judgement on people, when you waste your time watching internet videos and commenting about them. Of course when it happens to be the thing you enjoy wasting time on, the excuses start pouring out as to why it's some how more appropriate than what this guy did. Naturally I'm doing the same thing, minus the high horse.

The bottom line is, having hobbies and periods where we're not curing cancer is not a crime and we will all enjoy these periods differently, passing judgement on who does it the most productively, to me, is a ridiculously silly thing to do. Nobody works 24/7 and what people determine is a self-accomplishment to be proud of doesn't have to meet whatever arbitrary criteria you care to place on the word.

People can do a lot of different things that can make them happy/feel pride. This equates to level grinding in an MMORPG. Sure, you spent a lot of time, sure you "accomplished" something, but you never actually left your room, never actual did anything except sit at a computer for multiple hours and clicked a mouse/typed at a keyboard.
I don't see it as something to be "proud" of.
