Zack Snyder Fundamenal Flaw(Batman v Superman) - Nerdwriter

sixshot says...

I don't have the sense to break down a movie for the quality of the scenes and moments. But I do know when a movie sucks or has trouble trying to deliver a story. And what I saw wasn't much of a story at all. There were too many things that were way out there that seem to fall into place or was forced to be there because either WB or Snyder wanted it to be there. In this case, Wonder Woman.

I also saw the portrayed character of the supposed Lex Luthor and found that has an overreaching intelligence network that should not have included the identities of various other "meta-humans." And the way he plotted all of his schemes reminds me too much of Joker.

For me, the simple conclusion I came to after watching this movie is that it didn't flow well. Things just go from one spot to another to another and there's nothing in between to tell us the details. Wasn't a lot of movie time spent on dealing with the politics of Superman? At least Captain America: Civil War got the execution right when it comes to politics (that being, the heroes have to be held accountable for their actions).

Whenever someone is talking up Deadpool to me it's always: "The references..." (to other comic book movies I didn't care for), "the self-deprecation..." (agreeing with me that some of those movies were indeed shit), "breaking the fourth wall... ooh!" (a dramatic device so old it's Elizabethan... at least). And I'm supposed to be impressed by all that? Meta-, or up it's own ass?
Seems like you need to have watched every other comic book movie to enjoy Deadpool. Both to get the in-jokes no one else cares about, and to have a pile of mediocre crap that this movie can shine next to in comparison.
To me it was just another uninteresting superhero movie but this time with swears.

Apes and orangutans that ran it to the ground"

I don't know if they genuinely missed the entire point of Planet Of The Apes or if this is some weird meta-commentary on the kind of people that supported Charlton Heston.

Yea, Lucky doesn't like the sarcasm button. If you ever think he's being negative about a comment, check if he upvoted it. He was one of the first to upvote mine, so I figured he wasn't serious.

Unless you weren't being serious either, then that gets just waaay too meta for me.

Warcraft - Trailer Tease

ChaosEngine says...

It saddens me immensely to see the director of Moon reduced to this.

Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it's all a massive setup for an awesome meta-narrative head fuck and it's actually a movie length version of The Guild.

Or it might even be that mythical thing: a good video game movie.

But I would still rather see Duncan Jones talents put to work elsewhere.

Pro-lifers not so pro-life after all?

I'm aware that there are other types of IUD that don't cause this issue (but remember that they all have risks associated with them). Regardless, you shouldn't make all encompassing statements that aren't true. Especially when copper IUDs are still manufactured, sold, and implanted.

In regards to the statement about the right. What I meant was that you shouldn't refer simply to "the right" since they are not a cohesive group with absolutely consistent views (even when looking at Republican candidates they have a diversity of beliefs). Most people have both left and right viewpoints (and average out centrally). Plus I like to see papers. Lots of them. Peer reviewed. Preferably a meta-analysis of multiple peer reviewed papers.

I'll cover IUD's first. While there is some evidence that the older style copper ParaGard might have a slightly increase in preventing a fertilized egg from implanting, the evidence for the Mirena. Here are two medical journals documenting as such:

If those are too much reading, they are summarized in http://videosift.com/video/Myths-About-IUDs

Remember Google gives personalized search results. No two people get the same results, even when signed out of Google... More details at http://videosift.com/video/There-are-no-regular-results-on-Google-anymore

I'd also agree that there are many things America gets right. Overall it's a good country.

And I think I started out by pointing out it isn't about guns, or just about guns.

Now I'm not sure what you mean assigning attributes to the right. I was pointing out policies that are consistent with the conservative right, Republican platform positions that are not pro-life.

Finished. Pretty cool, but feels empty and weird without crew. Plus they missed a great opportunity to be meta by not taking the virtual tour by the holodeck...

VideoSift v6 (VS6) Beta Front Page (Sift Talk Post)

lucky760 says...

@notarobot: Valid point about the playlist link. I'm going to work on moving it on the single video page and also adding it to the front page.

Regarding short/long/nsfw, I just quickly threw that onto the front page today after someone ^up there pointed out they were missing. I first had it next to the "comments" link, but thought everyone would prefer them below the thumbnail because they are hard to spot in the other area and serve to clutter it up more.

To me the uniform space between thumbnails is a non-issue, and in fact something I still don't even recognize casually now that you've pointed it out.

What do the rest of you guys think? Does the placement of long/short/nsfw below the thumbnails on the front page bother you and prefer that they'd be right of the thumbnail next to the "comments" link? Or are you happy with it where it is?

The other reason I put it below the thumbnail is that when you expand the video you can see that info in the meta data column with the length, channels, and tags.

So it would seem that the concept of red-light cameras is debated by special interest groups on both sides, with strong lobbying from red-light camera vendors. The wikipedia summary explains the controversy thus: "Authorities cite public safety as the primary reason that the cameras are installed, while opponents contend their use is more for financial gain. There have been concerns that red light cameras scare drivers (who want to avoid a ticket) into more sudden stops, which may increase the risk of a rear-end collisions."

The same Wikipedia article summarizes the research thus: "A report in 2003 by the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) examined studies from the previous 30 years in Australia, the UK, Singapore and the US, and concluded that red light cameras "improve the overall safety of intersections where they are used." While the report states that evidence is not conclusive (partly due to flaws in the studies), the majority of studies show a reduction in angle crashes, a smaller increase in rear-end crashes, with some evidence of a “spillover” effect of reduced red light running to other intersections within a jurisdiction. These findings are similar to a 2005 meta analysis, which compared the results of 10 controlled before-after studies of red light cameras in the US, Australia and Singapore. The analysis stated that the studies showed a reduction in crashes (up to almost 30%) in which there were injuries, however, evidence was less conclusive for a reduction in total collisions. Studies of red light cameras worldwide show a reduction of crashes involving injury by about 25% to 30%, taking into account increases in rear-end crashes, according to testimony from a meeting of the Virginia House of Delegates Militia, Police, and Public Safety Committee in 2003. These findings are supported by a review of more than 45 international studies carried out in 2010, which found that red light cameras reduce red light violation rates, crashes resulting from red light running, and usually reduce right-angle collisions."

There are enough interesting sources there that you can still find confirmation for your particular bias, whatever it is, if you so choose.

Why can't white people stop the violence?

poolcleaner says...

This is a parody? Perhaps...

But... I grew up in Huntington Beach, in that narcissistic white drug culture. I am a product of this... parody? LMFAO. The white "elders" winking and nodding. So HILARIOUS. That video footage -- I know those locations, and I also know from experience and reputation that gun violence between not just whites and whites has occurred right around the location this footage was filmed. PCH, main, the pier -- fucking hell. Mostly a cool if not overcrowded touristy area -- but, it can erupt into random acts of violence. There's a freaking MMA gym on every other corner; TESTOSTERONE INSPIRED, X-GAME/MMA SPONSORED RICH ASSHOLE CENTRAL. There is a problem and it's overly meta with all of your weird perspectives outside my white ghetto.

All of the cool downtown areas of socal have this tendency though. Some of it racial between not just white people -- the Mexican girls who beat the Vietnamese girl to death in downtown Santa Ana not too many years ago, just because she photo bombed them. It's all a part of the same problem really, and not just white culture, but it still remains one side of the dice of random youth violence in the county.

The propaganda machine will say this is an all time low, but I can't ignore the fact that I grew up right there in that video and know it all first hand! And that's what news is about. Not an agenda. It's getting it right. It's funny because it's true. NOT parody -- unless treating white people like they treat the rest of people is considered "parody". That's the only parody I witnessed in this video, which is pretty incidental to me.

This video is awesome and very funny. There've been several in the past few years along the same lines and they're totally spot on and enjoyable. Very meta. The TED talk has been one of the best. There needs to be more content pointing out the preposterousness of what passes for top-notch reporting.
