How to trick people into thinking you're good looking

Throbbin says...

I have very little respect for women who walk around looking like Trollops. I met my spouse in college, and her roommate would wear layer upon layer of foundation - so much so she looked like a wax statue. Then the copious amounts of black eye shadow, bright red lipstick, and then spray herself with a cloud of cheap perfume.

Needless to say, it was nasty. One wonders why they do this - do they think it'll help them get ahead? Nymphomania? Low self-esteem? Were they taught this by their mothers? Sisters? Television?

When I'm walking around a mall, I see these types of women around - the kind that see you, size you up, make eye contact, and then get insulted when you don't shower them with attention. When this happens, if I have a male friend nearby, I usually tap my buddy on the shoulder, point at them, and laugh so that they can see me.

May not be nice, but I figure it's good for them in the long run.

8 Year-old Boy Has Sex Change!

MilkmanDan says...

That has got to be weird to figure out. From the perspective of the kid, the parents, and the (judgmental) community.

I grew up in rural Kansas, and was exposed to a strong cultural bias against homosexuality or transgendered people. When I was young and stupid (or younger and stupider than I am now), say in early High School, I thought that I hated homosexuals, in spite of the fact that I didn't actually know any -- probably because in the atmosphere that culture creates it would be extremely hard for anyone to be openly gay or transgendered and have to put up with attitudes like I had or worse. Fortunately I grew out of that, probably earlier than I otherwise would have due to my own struggle with "coming out" as an atheist in a similarly hostile environment and making an empathic connection of feeling held back from my nature.

After moving to Thailand, I got married to a Thai woman. She has some female friends, but probably about 2/3rds of her friends are either gay men or "kathoey" / transgendered men -- she was on her community college's cheerleading squad and many of her male friends are connections from that. Although I thought that I abandoned any remaining cultural homophobia during college, I must admit that Thailand pushed those boundaries at first -- it is just so different from the conservative midwest region of the conservative USA. But I have since seen that they are good people, nice, and good friends for my wife (and me) to have.

Some things here are bass-ackwards, but the cultural tolerance or at least apathy towards different sexual orientations seems like a real improvement over my own American / Bible Belt cultural upbringing. I hope this kid can get everything figured out in an environment that is more like Thailand than what I grew up in...

This Place Has Been Amazing, But It's Time To Leave :) (History Talk Post)

Lann says...

Okay I haven't been active on here long enough to know EVERYTHING. But last year I had something similar happen to me. All of the my peers were at a gathering which included a party at the end of the night. A good male friend of mine was drunk on moonshine and we were all talking laughing smiling haveing a good time. My best friend has implants and was commenting on her breast so was I. So he thought he would have a sample of a D cup in one and and a A (mine) in the other. To say the least our smiling faces turned to "your gonna fucking die" stairs and he started then to notice his mistake. We dealt with the situation right there and avoided him the whole night waiting for morning to confront him further sober. He was embarrassed but it was over...we are still friends end of story. I dunno I don't have a lot of female friends in real life (well only one actually) so maybe I just don't get it. I also had to go though this routine when a lesbian grabbed my ass but at that time I was being "homophobic".

Ex Porn Star Shelley Lubben Speaks Against Porn

Sagemind says...

A man's view will always differ from a woman's on this topic.

I have male friends that have no use for Porn and can't be bothered. I have female friends that love porn (books, magazines or video) and love it as a natural progression to their tastes.

It is truly a personal thing. And I think the industry satisfies a huge sexually frustrated population out there. (Male and Female). I'm sure it eliminates allot of sex crimes. Sexually frustrated people need to relieve their tension. Not everyone has a partner in life. Face the Fact!

On the same token, Porn can also be a marriage/relationship breaker in the same way "World of Warcraft" ruins relationships. It provides an escape in an already troubled relationship. When this happens, the true problems within the relationship never get resolved and things begin to crumble.

I'm sorry but I have to take the side of "both sides" here.
1). The porn industry is demeaning to women. Checks and balances will never filter out the scum. Some companies value their “actors” and treat them professionally. Some actors are self employed and run their own websites. Pornography is a multi-million dollar a year industry and where there is that much money, there will always be filth around the edges. Porn can be offensive and disgusting when people are taken advantage of and encouraged or forced to do something that is out of their comfort zone or when things are drastically out of it’s original intent or context.

2). Sex itself is neither filthy nor ugly. When it is between two consulting adults, that’s their business whether they want to be filmed or not. Some people just seem to like filming themselves (Male and female). I personaly, would never film myself or someone else but that is just me. Porn can be sexy when both sides are enjoying it. To even imply that sex is wrong in any form is based on literature originating from Chritianity. Sexual Desire was powerful and could not be controlled by the church and was therefore deemed against God’s will.

“Obedient Christians as sexually active children of God’s will refrain even from the irrational appetite, because otherwise they are heinous fornicators.”
The making of fornication By Kathy L. Gaca
The incubus was sexual desire made real and labelled a demon before god and people were put to death by the church for having sexual thoughts.

I could go on, but like any argument like this it is not “This” is right and “That” is wrong!
There is not light without darkness and after darkness there shall always be light. Ying Yang!

Female Circumcision from the POV of women...

the turning point came when i had to do a bladder study on 2 boys 2 weeks in a row, both were under 7, both had not been circumsized and both had chronic bladder and kidney infections. when i went to cath both of them their foreskins were filthy and crusted on, i dont think their parents have EVER pulled that stuff back and cleaned it properly.

WTF, are you an idiot? This only shows the mental damage American society (or whatever society you're in) has had from years of unwarranted circumcision : bad genital hygiene. The Chinese/Japanese/Indian/Latino-American/European are for the majority uncircumcised and lo, they wash their foreskin and don't get any more infections than the circumcised. And why would what other parents can't do influence your choice? Because they're so dumb they can't wash their child's foreskin you're going to lower yourself to their level and not wash your child's foreskin too? What if they jumped off a bridge, would you jump off too?

The generalized correct reasoning here is this: don't wash foreskin = infection. Wash foreskin = no infection. Everything else is pure bullshit (because as we all know bovine feces is sterile).

i interviewed all my male friends both circumsized and uncircumsized, and one friend that had not been circumsized as a baby, but chose to be later on in life, everyone says circumsicion. so we did it.

And so you're a hypocrite and a sheeple. Not surprising coming from an idiot. Ask a Sunni if Shiites are bad, of course he'll say yes. Ask an evangelical church-goer if atheists are bad, of course he'll say yes. It still doesn't mean their opinion has any value outside of their little micro-society.

he was 6 hours old, they numbed him and gave him a chocolate sucker to suck on. nowadays they circumsize babies by putting this plastic bell over their penis, it cuts off circulation to the foreskin and it falls off in about a week. we had no problems and he doesnt seem to miss it and i dont feel bad about it now.

Glad the experience didn't give you PTSD.

foreskins have been shown to carry disease and a contributing factor the aids epidemic in africa, but still as nature intended.

False, false, false, and you're an idiot. The "study" that "proved" a "link" between foreskin and AIDS was a "study" that looked at the prevalence of AIDS vs the prevalence of circumcision, and ONLY in some regions of South Africa. More that 30% of South Africans have HIV. Correlation is NOT causation, not even link. Do some statistics: you'll be scared by how easy it is to find correlations between non random normally distributed sets, which includes nearly everything that has to do with human life.

its also interesting since ive grown up in a culture of male circumsicion, im intimidated by foreskins and prefer that stuff cut off if im gonna have sex with it, all my female friends feel the same way.

Yes it's interesting, but not the way you think it is. It's interesting in the same way the neurotic women Freud psychoanalyzed were interesting : they were mentally ill.

how do the men feel about their foreskins, or lack there of?

Coming from a now mostly circumcision free society, we do not feel much of anything about our foreskins unless they give us trouble, like any other part of our body.

also, to this day the smell of chocolate dumdums reminds me of the day my son was born.

Proof of your neurosis? You tell me.

Finally, I think the Ancient Greeks had it right : a man is not naked until his foreskin is fully retracted. Maybe circumcision is why so many Americans are still so prudish regarding nudity?

I'm against all circumcision and I think anyone who supports MGC but denounces FGC is a complete hypocrite. You're destroying the same piece of tissue with the same function. In my experience it's always the mother that insists on getting her son cut, usually because "it's hard to keep clean" otherwise. Oh, God forbid you have to make an effort to take care of your son! Kids are notorious for having dirt behind their ears; maybe you should cut those off too.

How would you feel if your mother hacked off half of your sexual organ because she didn't feel like cleaning it?

you bring up an interesting topic, male circumsicion... i have a son, his dad and i argued through my whole pregnancy about whether or not to have cicumsicized. i did not want it done. as it is mutilation and if you werent supposed to have a foreskin, you wouldnt be born with one. the turning point came when i had to do a bladder study on 2 boys 2 weeks in a row, both were under 7, both had not been circumsized and both had chronic bladder and kidney infections. when i went to cath both of them their foreskins were filthy and crusted on, i dont think their parents have EVER pulled that stuff back and cleaned it properly. i interviewed all my male friends both circumsized and uncircumsized, and one friend that had not been circumsized as a baby, but chose to be later on in life, everyone says circumsicion. so we did it. he was 6 hours old, they numbed him and gave him a chocolate sucker to suck on. nowadays they circumsize babies by putting this plastic bell over their penis, it cuts off circulation to the foreskin and it falls off in about a week. we had no problems and he doesnt seem to miss it and i dont feel bad about it now. foreskins have been shown to carry disease and a contributing factor the aids epidemic in africa, but still as nature intended. its also interesting since ive grown up in a culture of male circumsicion, im intimidated by foreskins and prefer that stuff cut off if im gonna have sex with it, all my female friends feel the same way. how do the men feel about their foreskins, or lack there of?

Talk to men in any big city in the US, and you will find and almost identical response to MGC.
What this shows is that when a society decides to ritually abuse their children they rationalizing it as normal and necessary, which is the reason my parents had my junk cut into, and my GF's parents conditioned her to wallow in gilt.
This has nothing to do with religion, this is all cultural. Just because this particular form of abuse is alien to you does not make it any worse than what your society does on a daily basis.

FOX jokes about killing Obama

^Indeed. It is sad that comments like that can be awarded a star point. There appears to be no civility left in the sift.

Oh come now, of course there's civility left. Obviously it's your choice of whether or not to believe me, but I really never use that word. In this case however, I wanted to mean it. And it seems like this is the last curse word that one can use which lets people know one means business. As I said to the one member who sent me a comment about this, I'm all ears for any other word you may suggest. Should I have said bitch, or asshole, or fucker, or douchebag? They all seem to lack the requisite punch of insulting this lady. I mean, wouldn't you agree that any of the above words are too good for this woman?

<begin punchiness>
Also, please recognize that when one woman is called a cunt, it doesn't mean the accuser is calling ALL women cunts. In fact, some of my uncivil male friends call my other uncivil male friends cunts from time to time. The result is usually hilarity.
<end punchiness>

I'm sincerely interested to hear a few things. Why is this word personally offensive to any ladies on the sift? If YOU wanted to call this woman something, what word would you choose? And are there any other off-limits words I should know about?

Barbra Walters interviews Sean Connery on smackin' b*tches.

dgandhi says...

I have been slapped by women for being ornery in the manner which Connery thinks justifies a slap, nobody came to my defense.

I have had female friends who could kick my ass, and male friends who could not, how do genitals effect the appropriateness of the use of physical force to settle disputes?

There is a point at which using "I'm female (read weak) so you can't hit me" can be used as a tool for emotional abuse. The possibility of physical altercation does serve to keep many conflicts civil, claiming immunity is pretty damn annoying, anybody who does it should be prepared if their bluff is called.

Edward Norton's "Fuck You" scene from 25th Hour

sfjocko says...

yeh krupo, that's one of the downsides of clipping from movies -- the context is lost, and sometimes the significance of the clip is lost with it, or muddied by its loss.
fyi, here is the official plot synopsis of 25th Hour: The 25th Hour depicts the last day of freedom for a young man before he begins serving a seven-year jail term for drug dealing. Prowling through the city until dawn with his two close male friends and his girlfriend, he is forced to re-examine his life and how he got himself into his predicament, which leads to a shocking, disturbing finale.
