General Wesley Clark: Middle Eastern Wars Were Planned

bcglorf says...

I gotta say the 'anti-interventionist' mentality just pisses me off when gets so extreme as to lament the middle eastern curse of oil and that if only it wasn't there the middle east could be more like Africa where nobody considers intervention. I'm not sure how many middle eastern people are longing to trade places with Somalia, Rwanda, Sudan, Liberia, the DRC and on, and on. Africa's a great place, when the local dictator or militia decides to hold a genocide, nobody else in the world cares enough to do a bloody thing, it's like a paradise.

Brave Texas woman speaks out against legislators

chingalera says...

"That is typical of Texas rightwingers"

Love the broad brush-strokes, I use similar stereotypical sentiments when referring to MOST Americans regardless of their "state" of incarceration

So newtboyP, you left Texas at 13 because you had to, you lived with your parents at age 13 I trust, and semantics-be-damned, so you didn't "run", so please, "Go fuck yourself."(see, simply because I used some ad-hom the irony of your own directed at me is lost entirely in rules and regulations and adhesion to conduct)

I'd move to some idyllic utopia within this country but the only places that appeal to me have too many rednecks or too many pretentious university students-Sorry mate, I don't fit your convenient groups or labels we're a bit more enigmatic than all that.

You wanna analyze something how about picking-apart your last few sentences lamenting the mentality of everyone in a state 2/3 the size of Europe and again, using convenient labels and broad generalizations that fans of such tripe can soak the gravy up with after eating the manna falling from their asses like it was sent down from God herself.

I've lived everywhere but the eastern seaboard mate and "being" anywhere now is about as good as the shits gonna get-Your own ideas that grass is greener politically somewhere else and therefore better than state X over state Y,... self-indulgent and illusory.

Sample: lamentations, lamentations, lamentations worldwide

Watch out (repeated)

LB: In the beginning men and women had an obligation to their children
Lateef: Then there was a real and true necessity in need for building
LB: There was still the discipline and will proliferate the lineage
Lat: Matters of the spirit, mind, and body taken serious
LB: But the way that we became what we became
Somebody please explain
Lat: Well we could tell you if you're curious
Those that reign got the masses in chains
And their minds enslaved
Both: And that's the part that makes me furious

Watch out (repeated)

Both: Cos they're definitely aint no info readily avai'
Lable to the general A (?) people so let me know x2

Lat: It's easily this multimedia crews that feed you to the neediest
It's the greediest trying to cheat us out of our God given right
LB: To a quality education minimal opportunities available
Limited occupations we are not given a choice
Lat: Or given a voice within a political system pimped and gangsta'd out
Wherein the people are the victim sheep being lead about
LB: While the followers and the patrons of any faith outside the mainstream
Are being raided, falsely painted as endangering the way things work
Lat: And the way things are remain
LB: I can't believe that things aint worse
Lat: When all the wicked seeds we've sown have grown
LB: And poisoned all the Earth
Lat: It serves us right
LB: Can't really act surprised when the harvest has no worth
Lat: The curse that's lurking round the corner
Both: Is the product of our work

Watch out (repeated)

Right now
Lat: Our foreign policy is mallets of democracy
Upholding an aristocracy of secret terrorist cells

Turns people into property one step away from hell
Right now
Lat: Healthcare battles bioengineering for the worldwide scare
Of the plague the we're fearing
Right now
LB: They got the right to put our lives under surveillance
Right now
Lat: They got the right to lock us up we don't obey them
Right now
LB: Modern education don't prepare the youth

Popping a Mercury Filled Balloon in Slow Motion

MilkmanDan says...

>> ^spoco2:

@MilkmanDan Saying that kids should be able to play with Mercury, even though it is shown to be a very dangerous substance (mostly via it evaporating and being inhaled, not through direct contact) seems a little naive.
What do you get out of it that makes it worth the pretty horrendous possible side effects? Sometimes 'big brother' isn't really that at all, just society at large realising some of the dangerous side effects of things.
My own experience with mercury? In grade six someone had a vial of it, and it got spilled all over the wood floor in our classroom. So little bits of mercury ended up falling in the cracks between floorboards. There were a bunch of us 11/12 year olds trying to fish balls of mercury out with pieces of paper. Not really safe at all. None of us suffered any ill effects that we know of, but why risk it?

I looked into it further on my own, and found out that as @GeeSussFreeK mentioned, elemental Mercury is actually rather safe, even compared to standard Chemistry lab-type things that we let kids handle or have access to. However, that information is often glossed over with blanket warnings about exposure to any sort of mercury, including the legitimately nasty compound forms like what can come from coal burning, etc. As you said, the main danger from the pure elemental form is vapor from evaporation, which seems to be manageable with any sort of proper ventilation or limited exposure time.

I wouldn't suggest that we just allow kids to play with the stuff at will unsupervised, but I think that some level of interaction with it (more than what is common now) can be safe, educational, and worth doing given proper safety practices and other restrictions. On the other hand, there isn't a whole lot to be gained, and there is a lot to lose -- albeit I think the chances of very serious accidents with it are very slim given proper precautions.

I kinda lament the fact that it is harder for schools to do anything even a tiny bit out of the everyday routine because they all have to have massive insurance policies to cover their asses in the event that some freak occurrence happens and they get sued. It is harder to have a woodshop; somebody might cut a finger off. Sports sometimes come under fire for injuries or even the occasional freak accidental death. The loss of those sorts of things makes me wonder if we've gone too far down the "Big Brother" road in some ways. Then again, I think most of that is due to our lawsuit and litigation-happy culture rather than Big Brother...

How to handle gays? Concentration Camp

Jinx says...

>> ^Sagemind:

Satan or Samel, was never described as homosexual. He was a fallen angel that wanted to enjoy the carnal pleasures of the flesh.

"Lilith met Samel when he found her lamenting her wrongs in loneliness. He was already burning with lust and envy after witnessing the pleasures of Adam and Eve. Lilith agreed to join with Samel and she became his wife; gaining the title of Queen of succubi. From there, they agreed to plot against Jehovah, Lilith for revenge and Samel to gain the pleasures of the flesh. It was through these plots that it was decided how to tempt Eve and then Adam by giving them the fruit. Once they had given into the temptation, Samel was able to enter their bodies forever and live as sin, in the hearts of man. It was through the offspring of Adam and Eve that Samel gave bodies to his minions of degenerate angels."

Just where does this dumbass think homosexuals come from?

The original homosexual, Satan, corrupted the minds of the young and tricked them into thinking they could love another of the same sex. If you put all the gays away someplace then they can't turn our children gay! or something.
But lets be fair here. He doesn't want to kill the gays, he just points out they can't reproduce if you imprison them for life for being homosexual. Thats a big distinction between him and Hitler. Yeah. Plus Hitler was an atheist ofc, this guy is on GODS side.

You thought I was serious? cute.

"Why I HATE Religion, But LOVE Jesus" - (Poem)

shveddy says...

>> ^shinyblurry:

Couldn't agree more with all that he said. Religion is part of the bondage that Jesus came to liberate us from..man made traditions can't save you and good deeds don't make you righteous. Only a personal relationship with Jesus is what saves you. To those religious people who showed up to church but never did what was right He will say "I never knew you: depart from me, you that work iniquity"

Sorry dude, you can't have it both ways. In a single paragraph you manage to lament how Jesus came to save us from the need to do good deeds for the sake of righteousness in one sentence. Then, in the very next one, you tell us that Jesus will reject you if you don't to right. So which is it?

As for this video, it kept popping up on my Facebook feed a few months ago and my response is as such: Yea, Christians can do some pretty hypocritical things - but that's expected. They are after all human, and despite their claims of divine moral motivation and whatnot, they are really imperfect humans with no special powers just like me, so I give them the benefit of the doubt (though it would be nice if they were to adopt a world view that promoted the concept of responsibility for one's own actions). God, however, is supposed to be perfect, unerring, loving, benevolent, truthful, good and so on, so I have a hard time reconciling that with all of his vile behavior.

Crazy awesome fight scene from THE RAID

Gonna see this on Tuesday, can't wait!

Shuac's quotes are perfect examples of why your typical film critic are simply snobby douche bags. I feel sorry for anyone that cannot just have fun with a simple and sometimes awesomely cheesy action film such as Commando, Road House, Shoot 'em Up, Jackie Chan's films, Ong Bak, etc without lamenting the lack of "appreciation for human dimension, meaning, and morality". I'd gladly see those kind of people get round house kicked in the face, stumble backward, crash through a window, fall down flipping end over end until they crash onto a car 3 stories below

For YEARS, I've been looking for the Grace Jones Citroen parody opening to that show but can't find it. I WISH they'd bring that show back, it was hillarious.
