China’s New Bio Weapon Targets Race and Ethnicity

newtboy says...

It’s not about bringing him back to reality, that ship sailed in 2016. It’s about not letting him trick others onto his sinking, rat infested ship as it slips loudly into the briny deep.

A troll's gonna troll, what can we do? Don't need to give him the sick pleasure of getting a long reply. Just let these sifts die in his queue instead of wasting time asking him to get sense of reality.

Destroying an anthill...with gas

wraith jokingly says...

First time on VS after more than a year. Top 1 New Video is a viral video fromm two years ago, about someone from Brazil, trying to eradicate a cockroach infestation, with a new (and wrong) title.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen.....

The best golfer, probably ever.

Desert locusts in Kenya leave ravaged crops in their wake

newtboy says...

Well, that's not good.
*promote the idea of preparing for another massive African famine that could make Ethiopia in the 80's seem like a walk in the park.
Sadly it seems there's little in the way of actual preparation, even the exceptionally minimal plans to stop the infestation aren't being funded.
It's disgusting that the planet can't come up with $76 million to stop a famine, but instead has given only $20 million and only promised another $10 million.

Trump's Racist Attacks on Democratic Congresswomen

newtboy says...

Unlikely. I'm no lawyer, but minimal investigation showed.....
First they would have to prove damages, then overcome privilege (both absolute and qualified) then prove it wasn't just 1 a statement made in good faith, 2 opinion, 3 mere vulgar abuse, 4 a fair comment on a matter of public interest.
Since Trump has executive absolute privilege, a history of spouting nonsense no one believes, and a history of believing any crazy thing, he's certainly shielded from defamation laws.

Also, except for the "go, then come back" part, everything he said was proper. His administration is the most corrupt, crime infested government we've ever seen, and we need them to show us how to fix it.

But Melania doesn't seem happy, she can leave...in fact, as a person who worked illegally under her visa , then overstayed it by creating an anchor baby, she should be deported and Bannon needs to go in the cage.

So, can they launch a civil suit for racial slander?

(I'm not a lawyer - but don't people sue, or press charges for racism?)

Caterpillar D9G donkey start and unloading

Just another Caterpillar infestation?

Seems odd a donkey engine uses a pony motor to start.
Where's the chicken brake on that thing?
Does it come with a pig iron blade?

Aftermath November 2016

Payback says...

Actually, your anecdote is slightly off. This election wasn't a choice between your responsibilities and a vacation, it was a choice between sitting in your dead end job, or taking a chance that you actually might be good at scavenging apocalyptic wastelands.

Alfred J. Pennyworth once said, "Some men just want to see the 1% infested Federal Government burn."

At least I think that's what he said.

Be a fucking grown up and vote for the only responsible adult in this election, who is admittedly completely unlikeable. It's really not hard, but never put anything past the American voter.

New Poll Numbers Have Clinton Far Behind And Falling

newtboy says...

I agree that 'writing off' a huge, near majority of the population is disastrous....but it's pretty damn close as it stands, with neither party doing much to improve things. It's already not a great time to be Mexican, black, or a woman in America today.

I, also, am at a loss on what to do. Southpark said, and I agreed, that 1/4 of Americans are mentally defective. I'm seeing now that that number is probably closer to 3/4, making meaningful, helpful change impossible. (Trump will be 'meaningful' change, but there's a >99% chance it won't be helpful to anyone not named Trump.)
A constitutional amendment declaring politics off limits for businesses and/or large groups, and making lobbying completely illegal, and funding elections rather than making them 'pay for play' would be a great start...but since the people who benefit from the current system are the same one's charged with making those changes, it's a non starter with no legal solution beyond voting every incumbent out of office...and that's not a good solution either.

Trump is likely not the answer if America is to continue as a united country.

It depends on the level of rot. If every load bearing beam in your home is infested with termites and rotten to the core....burning it down just might be the only way to save your neighbors homes, yours is already gone. We are at best on that knife edge where it's a toss up which is better, repair or replacement...but we aren't doing either, which is making the decision for us as the rot gets worse and less repairable. Perhaps a new structure is needed, one built to eliminate the rot from the get go. Of course....I see that leaves us all homeless in the interim, and many won't survive that, and in that circumstance it will be MUCH worse before it's better....most people advocating the dismantling of the government don't see that. I'm not advocating it, but I am considering it as a possibility.

That's the thing, I think they probably are.

I saw a quote the other day that said if Trump wins, "it won't be a great time to be mexican or black or a woman in America, but other than that things will be pretty much the same".

It's 2016. Writing off huge demographics like that shouldn't be an option.

@newtboy, I don't know what you do to affect change in the US. Your political system is awful, your voting system is borderline insane and your judicial apparatus is compounding the problem with some unbelievably short-sighted decision (i.e. Citizens United).

But I do know the answer isn't Trump.

If your house has rot, you don't burn it down. You have to do the hard work of finding the problem areas, scaffolding them to protect the rest of the house, ripping out the problems, replacing them and then insulating so you don't get the problem again.

Last Week Tonight With John Oliver: Online Harassment

He cracked me up at 7:40 with the Spanish lisp thing. One of my pet gripes, people that study Spanish but speak it with their flat, schwa-infested lazy english pronunciation but then do a Daffy Duck impression by attempting a Spain accent. They usually have a misspelled Chinese tattoo to complete the picture.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: FIFA and the World Cup

dannym3141 says...

I don't know what dirt Blatter has on what politician, but how did he not get arrested?

The business around the Qatar world cup demonstrates perfectly how this horrible world works. Football is loved around the world, for the most part by peace loving individuals who believe in fair play and good sportsmanship.

Yet somehow, the money that we pay to watch football (and the money that the advertisers pay for the privilege selling us things while we watch) was used to set up a football competition in a country at a time when football is not playable. To ensure this impossible spectacle takes place, tens of thousands of low paid (and many unpaid for years at a time) migrants were moved into desolate infested squats in order to provide the slave labour to build the beautifully designed and wonderfully engineered, air conditioned stadia that we will all sit in or otherwise experience, in comfort, at the expense of all of those poor people.

And yet almost every one of us would be outraged and moved to action at the possibility of a person being exploited in our name.

They investigated themselves, they found themselves to be acting in an exemplary fashion. If anyone is punished for corruption, they will eventually return to their normal life of luxury after a brief stint out in the cold, and possibly be rehired under an umbrella company or to a lower-profile position of equal importance.

The same happened with the banks, the same happens with our politicians and their spiderweb of connections in big business and finance. Fuck capitalism. We need something new.
