Cops definitely shouldn’t be allowed to just barge into a person’s home BUT with that said, given her agitated and aggressive state and the way she is screaming at the person off-screen, I can somewhat understand why the cops may have thought there was an issue. Especially considering that the front door was open and they were responding to a disturbance. As a home owner myself, it’s not the way I’d have handled the situation but we don’t have the entire context either.

#3 It is not actually that difficult. The kits to synchronize these lights have been out for a decade now. In a case like this I would;

a) Get permission to handle everyones lights for the year.
b) Using the same kit, I wouldn't get too fancy, gutter icicles, trees, garage outlines, not much more for each house.
c) only need to make one routine, this routine can then be loaded into all houses with only the need to tweak the strands of lights used in each group.
e) syncing would be no problem with an internet aware kit that synchs its internal clock online.

The place turns into kind of a strobe mess because there are not many types of light groups to alternate between, but that can wait for next year. Great effort.

As to the amount of heroin being important, I think it is. $40 worth is obviously consistent with 'personal use' not an amount for sale. That does make a difference. It's certainly not enough to allow seizure of 3rd party property because of what he's been doing (secretly) at someone else's home he's staying at, IMO. If he had $100 grand/million worth of heroin, it would be hard for the home owners to say they had no idea, it would have to be willful blindness to not notice that amount in your home, or the strung out people coming and going.
The reasonable/normal thing that should happen in these cases is the owner is notified about the criminal activity and given a chance to remove the perpetrator/stop the activity, not treated as if a tenant/family member is the owner. That's an over-reach that will likely win this family their home back and restitution in the end.

I can see a relation between certain crimes and gun ownership/availability, but not really with overall crime...possibly more severe crimes though, often just having the gun on you raises the level of crime, even if you never even show it.
In America, many 'burglars' come armed, which raises the crime to armed robbery. That way, if they're caught, they can at least try to assert control over the homeowners and get away more easily (at least that seems to be the theory). If suddenly there were 95% fewer guns, I would expect more burglary and less armed robbery, both because the criminals have fewer guns and less fear of running into an armed home owner, another 'normal' thing in America. It's essentially the same crime, but one is done with a gun on the intruder.
