THE CRUELTY BEHIND OUR CLOTHING - WOOL

transmorpher says...

That's the scariest bit. On the surface it looks like a peaceful farm, because when you're going past it, all you see is lovely green grass and sheep grazing, it looks lovely and peaceful.

You don't get to see the castration, horn removal, tail docking and mulesing without any sort of anesthetic - this happens to every single lamb.

You also don't get to see the workers having a bad day and abusing (after the product is removed from them). This might not happen to every sheep, but with around 30 sheep getting sheared an hour by each person, you can bet at that speed it's not a pleasant experience even without malicious intent.

Outsiders just see a lovely country side, with sheep grazing before and after the abuse.

Having just come home from visiting Iceland, and after visiting farms there, and also farms in New Zealand, I can say unequivocally that most farms in those countries are what you think of, peaceful sheep in large bucolic fields enjoying their lives and not being injured during once a year sheering of wool that's otherwise a problem for them to shed naturally. I won't speak to Australia, since I've never been there...maybe all sheerers are dicks there.

The Most Aggressive Defense Of Teachers You’ll Hear

packo says...

>> ^Winstonfield_Pennypacker:

I love to see a person who is passionate about what they believe in. That kind of thing always gets mad props from me. Kudos guy. Golf clap.
But the sad reality is that there are precious few in the teaching profession that have this kind of passion. And even the rare teacher who DOES have the passion has a heckuva time working in a system that is more concerned about the welfare of the teacher's union than the education of students. I could go on for hours about screwed up teachers, regulations, and all the other garbage that cumbers our educational system. It’s all well and good to stick up for the good things, but it ends up ringing pretty hollow when you know there’s a mile of manure beneath the pretty green-grass rhetoric.
For example… I’m no fan of lawyers. But if I was a lawyer, you how I could respond to his last question?
“You what to know what kind of difference I make? I make drunk drivers go to jail when they kill kids, but walk away from the accident. I make teachers who have sex with their students tremble when I’m on the other end of the phone. I make laws that protect widows, the elderly, and orphans. I make companies clean up their messes, and pay the people they hurt with their negligence. I make government officials talk about the laws they try to sneak through the system. I make rapists and murderers go to the electric chair. I stare right in the face at all the scum, sleaze, and filth in society that YOU’RE too scared to even talk about. I hold the powerful accountable. I make the guilty pay. I defend the innocent guy who society never gave a chance. That’s the difference I make, pal…”
See – it isn’t too hard to list all the GOOD things done by a profession while desperately ignoring the slime, crap, and bologna. Golf-clapping his passion, but not impressed with his method.

lawyers don't make laws
defense lawyers make ALOT more than prosecution
and they are just as likely to deny someone their just dues, and protect those in the wrong... probably more likely, because thats where the money is at

trying to put law and education in the same boat has 1 major flaw
there's no money in teaching...
its much more likely to find corruption where there is money
its much more likely to find character where this isn't

Ain't No Right - Jane's Addiction

[defunct] ICUDOO2 says...

Close - but here's what Perry is actually screaming at you:

I am skin and bones, I am pointy nose;
but it motherfuckin' makes me try.
Makes me try, and that ain't no wrong.
I'll tell you why...
There ain't no right!
Ain't no wrong now, ain't no right.
Ain't no wrong now, ain't no right.
Only pleasure and pain.
Motherfuckin' bad wind came, blew down my home.
Now the green grass grows.
Bad wind came, blew down my home.
Goddamn goodness knows!
Where green grass grows there can't be wrong.
And goodness knows, there ain't no right!
Ain't no wrong now, ain't no right.
Ain't no wrong now, ain't no right.
Only pleasure and pain.

Bumped my head, I'm a battering ram.
Goddamn took the pain.
Cut myself, said "So what?"
Motherfuckin' took the pain.
Said "So what?"
I can't be wrong.
I thought so but there ain't no right!
Ain't no wrong now, ain't no right.
Ain't no wrong now, ain't no right.
Only pleasure and pain.

Merle Travis - Sixteen Tons

Rugil says...

I first heard this song performed by Tom Jones on the "Green green grass of home" album. Been in love with it ever since.

Here it is.

*chiming in*
If you see me comin' better step aside
a lot of men didn't, a lot of men died.
I've got one fist of iron, the other of steel!
If the right one doesn't get you, then the left one will.

Black Hole Destroying A Star

bluecliff says...

Science! true daughter of Old Time thou art!
Who alterest all things with thy peering eyes.
Why preyest thou thus upon the poet's heart,
Vulture, whose wings are dull realities?
How should he love thee? or how deem thee wise,
Who wouldst not leave him in his wandering
To seek for treasure in the jewelled skies,
Albeit he soared with an undaunted wing?
Hast thou not dragged Diana from her car?
And driven the Hamadryad from the wood
To seek a shelter in some happier star?
Hast thou not torn the Naiad from her flood,
The Elfin from the green grass, and from me
The summer dream beneath the tamarind tree?

I don't support the troops.

Gunter says...

I can't understand why people bash the troops. you should be bitching about the real problem the fucking corrupt government and all the lobbyists for companies who profit from this shit. Again unless you know the full story of this event you cannot pass judgement. There could have been a IED somewhere right there, and the dog unknowingly would not move and it's just a fucking dog. You honestly think that dog had a good life there? I highly doubt that Iraqi's treat their animals the correct way. But yes, I felt bad for watching a dog get blown up, but it's war like farhad said when you see all your colleagues get blown up and the same shit happens every day without any progress you most likely become numb to alot of the shit we get upset about over here in our comfy houses and fenced in yards with green grass and hardly any worries other than if some crackhead is going to rob you for 5$ or if you're going to be late for work....

Amazing Airplane Crash - Prevented!

deathcow says...

I think I would have spent another 5 seconds evaluating the glidability of the plane and looked around for suitable landing site before popping my $xx,xxx parachute. What a sense of relief though that BRS chute provides. Just 1 minute earlier this guy is flying effortlessly through beautiful skies, and then we're looking at green grass through the unbroken windshield. I know I would have got out of that plane and jumped for joy at standing on that green grass. I have been in a couple "easily could have been fatal" accidents and the sense of relief afterwards, standing away from the vehicle and looking at it all, is summarized in those green blades of grass seen through that windshield.

Cibelle - "Green Grass"

Cibelle - "Green Grass"

kronosposeidon says...

I scoured for dupes myself, because I was also certain this had been posted already, and I used terms such as cibelle, green, grass, tom, waits, brazilian, animation, rotoscope, etc., and still couldn't find it. If it's a dupe then I don't know what else I could have done to prevent it.
