Lake Oroville Drought, California

luxintenebris jokingly says...

know and agree with that feeling. did a quick search and the story is remarkably similar to this article...

https://www.kqed.org/news/11882312/lake-oroville-shows-the-shocking-face-of-californias-drought

...and is not Oroville is also the same damn dam that had a problem w/their spillway structure collapsing recently?

[at least this link is 'human' generated]

So not a fun job, i.e. Oroville OverLord. Just think of he/she when you're getting Kind of Blue. Miles of problems for them. Whether the weather goes all rain or no rain, there's no 'So What' for them. Only hope for it to go Blue to Green so it isn't All Blues.

Upside: while it's dry the spillway is being repaired.
Downside: it may not be necessary

[...and the job could lead to empty hours of boredom, only to fall to the temptation of getting the drawing crayons out to do Flamenco Sketches; dreaming where they could be, and what they could be doing.]

What is with these weird generated news stories using text-to-speech? It feels icky taking them at face value. The images could be total bunk since there are no attributions or anything.

I'm not suggesting the drought is fake, I'm just saying this is one of the worst sources that can be posted.

Right in Two (Cover by Beard of Harmony)

MilkmanDan says...

Awesome. I like their take on the largely percussion section in the original that I see as a symbolic version of the evolution and industrialization of man (simple and free flowing to aggressive to machine-methodical). Cool to see that bit done with flamenco-esque percussion on the guitar resonating chamber.

Hard to beat the snarl-factor that ramps up in Maynard's original vocals, and I think I prefer those overall, but this style goes better with the acoustic instrumentation.

Great sift!

Ana Vidovic - Recuerdos de la Alhambra by Francisco Tárrega

Engels says...

I love this piece. And not bad for a non-Spaniard. A bit weak on the flourishes that otherwise would give this a stronger flamenco feel, but other than that, quite enjoyable.

MariusZ Goli shreds on the streetside

chicchorea says...

...whoa...outstanding find...thank you....

,,,from his website:

"Mariusz Goli the guitarist, busker born in Poznan, Poland. This street artist can be seen performing in Katowice as well in other Polish cities.

He has been playing guitar since fifteen years old, however his future was bound to this instrument seven years ago. Busking is his way of life.

Street concerts give Mariusz the biggest satisfaction, he loves direct contact with his public. His music can be heard as well in clubs, pubs and restaurants.
Mariusz's music is very spontaneous, he loves to impovise. In his creations he tries to cover elements of flamenco as well as all sorts of folk music. He's still looking for his own style, trying to discover new techniques."

chingalera says...

When I play bass or guitar I seldom use a pick (instead, the thumb and index finger together using index nail as a pick) & I employ a two-finger flutter as well because I too, love the sound of flamenco

Still working on the whole slap-action, miles to go before I sleep. I think you have to have more African in you than I have to sound like Larry Graham

Tool - Lateralus - Guitar Percussion Cover

MilkmanDan says...

His sorta flamenco-style percussion is very cool and adds something to the cover; unfortunately since we only have two hands he has to rely on clean hammer-ons (which to be fair, he does very well) to produce the correct notes on the actual strings as opposed to fretting and then strumming or picking as usual. Despite his skill, occasionally notes get missed and they are frequently not as loud compared to the percussion as would be ideal.

Worth an upvote, but I'd love to see him arrange a version for two guitars with one doing the percussion and harmony and another one doing the melody with conventional strumming. It wouldn't be *twice* as good, but I think it would be significantly better.

The Great Sifter Roast XII ~ NeuralNoise ~ (Parody Talk Post)

rottenseed says...

I want to roast neuralnoise so so bad...but, god I just can't bring myself to do it. First I thought, hey, siftbot has more character, than this no-name nobody. After reading his roast prep, though I realized I was wrong. He comes off as one of those men of latin descent that are both very passionate, but also in touch with their feminine side. Enough so, that he can cry openly. Maybe like a character from "Y Tu Mama Tambien." I think roasting him would bring him to cry and cry. And then to relieve his anguish, he'll play some Flamenco on the guitar or maybe sip on some sangria in the courtyard of his Spanish style villa. Maybe he'll even do a couple lines of cocaine he picked up at the local farmer's market.

Fact of the matter is, his life is probably 20 times better than any of you jizz-tarts...

Al Di Meola - Egyptian Danza (Live)

Sagemind says...

Intense, that’s the best word to describe the character of the music that took hold at the outset of the 70’s. Powered by stacks of amplifiers, propelled by rock backbeats, fueled with unbridled passion, and full of the spirit of jazz improvisation, this so-called fusion music coalesced into a full blown movement with the arrival of John McLaughlin’s Mahavishnu Orchestra, Larry Coryell’s Eleventh House, and Chick Corea’s Return to Forever.

With impressive credits, Al was instantly inducted into Guitar Player’s Gallery of the Greats, becoming the youngest player in the magazine’s history ever accorded that honor.

At the outset of the 80’s, Di Meola put his Les Paul on the shelf and turned to the acoustic guitar, touring and recorded with a superstar trio including McLaughlin and Spain’s flamenco master, Paco de Lucia. He returned to his old electrified ways briefly with 1982’s «Electric Rendez-vous» and its follow-up, «Tour De Force Live». In 1983, the same year he recorded the bravado studio album «Passion, Grace & Fire» with the acoustic trio, De Meola had a brief reunion tour with his old RTF mates, Corea, drummer Lenny White, and bassist Stanley Clarke. Though the tour proved that the intensity was still very much alive, no record was released of this powerhouse fusion unit, together again for the first time since the 1976 breakup…
