Godsmack unplugged... Touche live

Stormsinger says...

I'm slowly being forced into the realization that the reason I don't care for many of the hardcore metal bands boils down to their instruments. Because in almost every case, I -do- enjoy their sound when they're playing acoustics.

Admittedly, Godsmack isn't one of the ones I dislike...I very much enjoy several of their numbers, and I find Erna's voice to be nothing short of captivating. But even they sound better without all the screaming electric guitars.

like the cutta yer jib there pard, and I dig yer fuck teh dumshitz attitude when it comes to education-Iread yer run-down of your tenure at Diplomamill University over in the lounge, and I understand your position and frustration...I can't help but feel that a lot of folks here are victims of similar institutionalized heresy and pollution of mind-It gives me hope to find others like me, both disgusted with the apparent shape of things to come and hopeful of an alternative to the systematic numbing and dumbing of the planet's inhabitants. Namaste back, and rock the fuck on. If I see you over on gchat I'll poke ya-

My first concert was in 75', Lynnard Skynnard in Dallas, was the back up band for the headliners, Emerson Lake and Palmer on their Brain Salad Surgery tour...One of the reasons my hearing is less than perfect...that and the electric guitar cranked the fuck up in the garage.

hell yeah.
i do everything backwards though.i bought number of the beast (good album) and was blown away.
so i went to the local head shop (they have those anymore?)and picked up:
iron maiden, killers and maiden japan for like 5 bucks.
number of the beast took to the shelf and killers i played like non-stop for a week.
dickenson did his thing and maiden made some good albums with him, mainly:number of the best, piece of mind and powerslave.
i saw all three concerts but never got to see di'anno and that just bloooooows.
i had a chance to see his solo project in jacksonville but we got called to ship out three days early.
so...i have never seen di'anno perform live.
and my life is less because of it.
that man could belt!
thanks for the upvotes man, always appreciated.
and i have to give ya props on being the best and most imaginative TITLE creator EVAH!
peace brother.

How To Make Weird Sounds On Guitar

MilkmanDan says...

Cool! I enjoy seeing all the weird ways that people come up with for making "unexpected" sounds from instruments, particularly electric guitars. Videos of Joe Satriani concerts are fun also -- he incorporates a lot of stuff like this into songs.

Misirlou ('Pulp Fiction' theme) on guitar, with pencils

Grimm says...

He met Leo Fender the guitar and amplifier Guru and Leo asked Dale to play his newly creation, the Fender Stratocaster Electric Guitar. The minute Dale picked up the guitar, Leo Fender broke into uncontrolled laughter and disbelief, he was watching Dale play a right handed guitar upside down and backwards, Dale was playing a right handed guitar left handed and changing the chords in his head then transposing the chords to his hands to create a sound never heard before.

Leo Fender gave the Fender Stratocaster along with a Fender Amp to Dale and told him to beat it to death and tell him what he thought of it. Dale took the guitar and started to beat it to death, and he blew up Leo Fender's amp and blew out the speaker. Dale proceeded to blow up forty nine amps and speakers; they would actually catch on fire.

Always have said that this cat's particular early sensation on youtube (..."for more information on the Crack Spider's Bitch, contact the Canadian Wildlife Service, in Ottawa.") was one of the best that has ever been produced-Cheers to the plastiquemonkey whose own sense of high art and eye for the incredible super ultra unmundane, was one of the reasons I joined this sideshow in the first place...

Then, as the site became more and more filled with farts, cats, newsclips, and all manner of Hieronymus Bleggh, she and he disassociated, got hornier once they dragged themselves away from the puter went and had a cute little Japanadian baby, and the rest is history...cute history.

She's still around, but that bundle of volcanic island cuteness has her being more of a mommer than a sifter...thak god she still finds time to paint and draw!!

Thank you Ms. Yamaguchi. You are one twisted, fineart, puppy!...and I would love for you to introduce me to all your single Japanese girlfriends-I hear the ladies of Japan love us sensitive American boys-who treat them like queens instead of servants and chattel....and who enjoy cunnilingus and tip good at restaurants and can sing karaoke and play electric guitar and who ride Harleys' and love tube amplification and tiny electronics and ....(man I need to get my ass to Japan before it sinks!)

Girls with violins rock out Toxicity - System of a Down

Nebosuke says...

Pretty cool. But why do the pickups on electric violins suck so bad? Even on the professional ones. They give you no tonal qualities like an electric guitar, bass, or even a good pickup on an acoustic upright bass. Even Bobby Yang understands that and just mics the room when he plays a regular acoustic violin.

Girls with violins rock out Toxicity - System of a Down

Vexus says...

having played violin for 3 years growing up, I'm going to have to dispute all of the "it's not live" First, there are only 3 instruments played the whole time, a bass, a guitar and a drums. However BOTH the bass and guitar have a specific sound and style that only strings over a violin make. The change from note to note is much more fluid as on a guitar all you can do is pluck the strings with your fingers, on a violin, it's a constant flow as you run the bow across it. It seems pretty clear to me the blond girl is playing bass, and the dark haired one is playing the guitar. Hell, it even matches when they are playing, it's pretty simple to alter the sound of an ELECTRIC VIOLIN, just like it is to alter the sound of an electric guitar. This very clearly to me, is not only feasible, it is what actually happened. All three of them are talented. The whole video was neat at least to me because it shows how you could play the song with violins instead of a guitar, which in my opinion is much harder.

Rep. Weiner Debates the Public Option on Fox & Friends

Raaagh says...

Wow. As I watched that I heard a dirge of a wailing electric guitar, the studio set morphed into a post-apocalyptic battle ground, wiener morphed into a muscle-bound cyber viking and the fox people turned into an army of mindless automatons.

Awesome.
