Semi Truck Carrying Huge Steel Beam Tips Over

Semi Truck Carrying Huge Steel Beam Tips Over

Bill Burr on First Ladies

Lambozo says...

When you start off with heres the deal, it sounds like the follow up is gonna be an immutable law of comedy, rather than why you personally find jokes funny.

Bill does actually touch on something true here: a first lady/man is not elected to office, the president is, and yet is given a platform anyways (albeit an unintrusive and politically safe one).

This is a fact that doesnt bother me in the slightest, unlike bill ( or perhaps bills character), but i still find the arguement pretty funny.

Bill's style of comedy is different from luois ck is finding the humour in an agruement against the audience, rather than one on the side of the audience. I think there is as much brilliance in this as any....

Comedy at its core is a performance, not an essay, lecture or real arguement. It may be, just as a performing art can be anything, but it does not have to have a bone of truth in it. Perhaps its patronizing to say thatcomedy is about laugh and everything else is optional, but people seem to have forgotten this.

Awesome Zombie dance Performance by Korean dance team

I really cant stand that style of techno/edm, nor that style of dancing. I'm not saying it doesnt take skill. I just find it boring and annoying.

Idiocracy explains Trump voters

coolhund says...

Only problem is that he never had a chance because hes too radical in the opposite direction, which pretty much proves what I said in terms of that he doesnt offer better solutions. Hes a dreamer. Admirable, but ultimately a failure, since he doesnt see reality. You cant go in with a crowbar, no matter which side youre from.

Big Think: John Cleese on Being Offended

vil says...

Yep, hyperbole.

Basically if you get offended by a word, everyone else has to be nice to you and stop using it, but sooner or later someone will say something that will offend you again, another word gone, until only one word is left and no one is going to talk to you if you ban that last word as well.

Hyperbole kicks ass. Ban hyperbole?

Its the switch from printed newspapers and gossip to the internet and facebook I think. Young people can now pick their own news and no longer recognise sarcasm. Everything is taken equally seriously, comedy shows supply news on TV, everything is perceived literally, hyperbole becomes hard to decipher, every small social mistake kids make remains visibly displayed online forever, no wonder they want to be careful with words. Hence sarcasm tickbox.

Imagoamin: I wasnt trying to accuse you of anything, I was trying to explain what I think political correctness leads to - shutting up legitimate voices. It may not be you, but someone out there doesnt like Nigger Jim for example. Now that leads directly to nineteenth century organized moral turpitude - if we pretend the problem doesnt exist it may go away, just dont say the word.

Bernie Sanders Polling Surge - Seth Meyers

Harzzach says...

This isnt about the change new technology brings. You can welcome the Digital Age or you can condem it. Doesnt matter. What matters that things WILL change. Very drastically in a small amount of time. A LOT of stupid, boring, menial jobs will soon vanish. Which is a good thing, but what to do with all this people who worked on those jobs?

Our wealth is based on us buying lots and lots of new things. Things and services. For that, we need money. We work to get that money. But if more and more jobs vanish, you cant just wait and hope for the best. You have to somehow counter that loss of expendable income.

What method you use or what combinations will be effective ... time will tell. But relying on the Invisible Hand of God (err ... The Free Market) and making the already super rich even more rich will NOT work.

As i said ... in Davos more and more influental people finally agree that something has to be done, because those job losses and economic changes will happen. Very fast. This is not a slow process like changing from hunter/gatherer to farming. Even the Industrial Revolution took several generations to finally establish itself. The Digital Revolution, in combination with a more and more intertwined, globalized world will change our lives in a matter of only a few decades.

Jinx said:

I'm really not sure about that. The agricultural and industrial revolutions didn't exactly have that effect, it just moved jobs from one place to another right? I mean, my job almost didn't exist 10 years ago. Not saying there is no challenge, but the elimination of thankless menial labour has to be a good thing overall no? I'm more worried that our slaves are finite resources that will need replacing eventually, one hopes not with the human variety.

Why is Islamic State group so violent? BBC News

coolhund says...

Its much simpler actually: The circle of violence. It started when the west thought it could bring their ideology to those countries. But Sunnis didnt want to live together with Shiites (the forming of Iraq and others). They didnt want to have foreign soldiers on their soil and adapt western lifestyle (especially Saudi Arabia). They didnt want Jews to get Israel, they didnt like to get invaded (Iraq and others), they didnt like the western coup detats (Iran and others), they didnt like to be afraid of being struck by a drone or cruise missile strike any minute (pretty much the whole region), and they didnt have the means to defend against their corrupt governments established or supported by the west or the attacks by the west.
Before this they were living at relative peace. Much more peaceful than we did live together in Europe in the last 600 years for sure.
Its pretty much desperation and has turned into normality now. They are also filled with hate due to their way of life, which puts honor very high and which the west doesnt understand. But you would be too if you have seen your culture get destroyed by other completely different cultures and seen your family and friends die by their hands for hundreds of years.
ISIS only struck that nerve better than any before. And thats why so many people are leaving to join them who are even living in Europe. Yet the west created them with their despicable foreign policy. And instead of learning from it, they are only making it worse by using these people for their own goals in Syria (that includes Turkey) and not changing their foreign policy.

A smart man once said: We shouldnt be wondering why they bomb us, we should be wondering why they dont bomb us much more.

Saitama vs Boros full fight

lv_hunter says...

Thats the crux of his character though, hes so strong he cant get a decent fight in with any villain. Hes super over powered, but hes bored. Hes fixed up or killed so many monsters that otherwise would have killed off whole populations, he doesnt get the recognition for any of it.

I would recommend watching the whole anime before making a judgement call that this is "typical".

Drachen_Jager said:

I like a lot of anime, but I have to say, this bit embodies everything I hate about anime. This is the reason Matrix II and III sucked, this is why Superman movies always suck. Heroes need limits comprehensible by us mere mortals, otherwise the action just becomes a bunch of incomprehensible garbage (like the above).
