Giraffe Copenhagen Zoo chief: 'I like animals'

newtboy says...

It made me wonder, don't they still do dissection in schools? We did frogs in 5-6th grade.

Wow, a scientist made a decision for scientific reasons. Who knew?

Idiot fucking interviewer: we would "protect" children from this.

Yeah, heaven forfend that kids grow up learning that meat comes from animals or how a giraffes heart has to be huge.

Giraffe Copenhagen Zoo chief: 'I like animals'

artician says...

This was a surprise. I was expecting "This guy is eloquent and intelligent" to be sarcasm. I thought the event being discussed was abhorrent and terrible, but he made an irrefutable case for it's legitimacy. I would think the people who came to watch the dissection of the giraffe would have known what they were in for beforehand, and his argument of the nature of it all, and the educational value (even just of the brutality of nature) struck me as sincere and realistic. Count me as having totally changed my mind of this incident. Sounds bad at first glance: actually has worth and was not necessarily an ignorant decision. I'm sure, and accept, that a lot of people will still disagree, but I'm glad I watched this.

Affluenza - caused by affluence, symptoms include murder

enoch says...

@messenger
rational and reasonable as always my friend.

but here is the cold, hard and highly cynical interpretation on the situation, based solely on my own understandings and continuing dissection of the dying throes of a global empire.

and it is simply this:humans have become commodities.

this young rich elitist fuck has parents who can raise his value in the eyes of a more and more corporatized state.
they can purchase his ticket into the political class.
so he can walk the gilded halls in the ivory tower and participate solely on the virtue of his ability to pay.
he can pay to play.

conversely,
the young black mans future ability to participate is systematically blocked for a myriad of reasons:race, economic status, regional opportunities etc etc.
and therefore has more value as a commodity to participate as a prisoner in the private prison system.

so while your analysis is born from a humanistic and reasonable origin,it is mainly due to the fact that you are..well..human.you express empathy and compassion.

a corporation is not hindered by such non-productive emotions.
they seek profit by any and all means.
and if that means commodifying a human being, then that is what they shall do.
and they have done exactly that.

many humans find that reality repulsive and repugnant (because it is) and balk at even accepting the reality that stares at them in the face.

because if they actually ever DID accept that truth, they would have to do something about it.

so they spin some rather creative internal narratives to avoid seeing the slow degredation, dehumanizing and outright cruel practices and call the profit good.
and oftentimes blame the victims for their situation, conveniently ignoring the actual perpetrators.

because if they did, they would have to take responsibility.
cant have that can we?

Jon Stewart Skewers Toronto Mayor, Again

This is the kind of bullshit I expect from mainstream media. At least in the Lewinsky scandal there was some actual evidence made available to the public. Here they are just speculating on the personal life of a politican based on an alleged tape that no one has seen. And besides, the personal life of a politican is irrelevant. If it's affecting how he actually performed his job than focus on that. They're reporting unverified accusations against a person which aren't really any of the public's business in the first place. They only report it because it grabs more eyeballs than dissecting policy.

CIA Admits It Was Behind Iran's Coup in 1953

chingalera says...

Freedom of Information provides a way for peeps to feel warm and cozy about their government acting unilaterally to ends deemed necessary by a small cadre of monkeys, while providing the mechanism for unchecked bullshit to continue unhindered.
OH, it also makes for marginally effective tabloid journalism, creating overnight sensations through banal, pompous delivery seasoned with an over-abundance of narcissistic swagger.

"CIA releases information"......Oxymoronic??! Haven't peeps with the ability to dissect newsspeak and "official statements" known that the CIA orchestrated the Iranian coup for over 30 years?

For the tiny morsels cretins like Cenk use to further distract increasing numbers of folks with regurgitate editorializing, the huge chunks of abuse of power sit rotting on a Nation's dinner plate, served nightly by whores of media everywhere. Cenk, yer a tool.

George Carlin - Who's to say what's funny?

JiggaJonson says...

@SDGundamX This is what I will call the funnybot paradigm (named for the south park episode). Anything that you dissect becomes less funny because you're taking it too seriously.

How about we all kick back and enjoy a comedian making a good point, instead of raping his attempt at humor (because we're all so horny).

Hannibal Buress adds diversity to one of his college shows

rychan says...

I normally don't like "meta" pieces. It seems to easy to target the activity you're doing. "Hey, I'll do comedy about doing comedy!" or "Let's make a TV show about all the crazy stuff you run into when making a TV show!". But this was a seriously smart dissection of a bad article.

BIGGEST CYST ON THE PLANET | Operation "Kill George"

worthwords says...

actually. these so called 'sebaceous cysts' should be removed as a capsule without expressing the content - if you just squeeze them out then it's difficult to differentiate the capsule and it can reform later. But at the very least the capsule should be removed at the end with blunt dissection and scizzors. The gunk is It's just fat and keratin that's being expressed - it didn't look infected at all. They are very common

Mummified Child Sacrifice

You say; "I'm even interested in self-righteous drive-by commenters who like to dissect phrases to to generate angst." Nothing in my comment was self righteous, I was stating a sad fact. And I did not "dissect" your comment as, frankly, there was nothing to dissect. You made a poor choice of words in the first comment, and a poor choice in the second. Don't dig a bigger hole my friend.

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

Sure , but expressing interest in something doesn't assume philosophical support. I find The Crusades, Pogroms and the Vietnam war interesting too. It's healthy to take an interest in things.

I'm even interested in self-righteous drive-by commenters who like to dissect phrases to to generate angst.

Actually, no I take that back, I'm no longer interested in that. It's a topic that's been too thoroughly explored. ;-|

I don't think the word "interesting" is quite appropriate. This is just another example of how innocence is sacrificed to religion/beliefs/cults. And the truly shocking thing is that it still, even in the 21st century, carries on.

New World Vocabulary for Dullards

Let me try and find one-If you want to hear some newsspeak I could compile a short-list of the most common bullshit phraseology used by politicians and military personnel, I'm sure with a few mouse clicks one can find tomes on the Internets.

I got one for you: Dissect the true meaning of "No Child Left Behind", if there even is any meaning embedded-Why can't johnny read between the lines?

Someone doesn't want Big Brother watching over him anymore..

Sagemind says...

I don't believe anyone, any council, or any government, has the right to watch me, for any reason, whether I'm doing anything wrong, picking my nose, scratching myself inappropriately or whatever.

Those people watching me are people the same as me, with no greater purpose or rights. I am against public surveillance in any form.

I don't care about arguments regarding money, catching criminals or loiterers, or what ever trumped up reasons authority or the people can come up with.

It's NONE of their dam business what I do as I walk down the street, sit on the curb or lean against a post. I don't need someone in an office somewhere going through my existence with a fine tooth comb monitoring me. I don't want to end up on surveillance tapes somewhere, archived and forgotten about just so one day they can be discovered and used for some other purpose.

If someday, I'm arrested for spitting my gum on the ground, (not that I chew gum or would spit it on the ground), but I don't want every facet of my life being dissected just so they can piece together and use past footage to create some trumped up footage that portrays me as less than I am.

This is a complete invasion of my personal rights as a human being and an individual. I truly believe this is an overstep of authority by a hierarchy that has been put in place to serve ME and the people who pay the taxes to fund levels of government.

Let's talk about *Promote (Sift Talk Post)

Boise_Lib says...

Well first off--now I see an answer to my question,

"Why the hell are they wasting top-of-the-page space?"

I don't see three promoted videos in a line; I see two videos and a third one below and to the left, leaving a big hole below and to the right.

I agree with @bareboards2, @eric3579, @ctrlaltbleach, @Sagemind, et al. And @spoco2's dissection is spot on.

I also have a problem with the crosshatching. I don't know the optical reasons, but the gray on gray crosshatch is like lasers in my eyeballs. Maybe color is part of it? I know the conspiracy tag is completely unreadable to me now.

I love this place and remember my fevered consternation when--in the past--the site was down for me. But I've had to go elsewhere recently just because of eyestrain.
