How to never have a serious poison ivy rash again.

ulysses1904 says...

Poison ivy has always been my kryptonite, although luckily I haven't had an episode in years. The worst ever was when I ran a weed whacker while wearing shorts, didn't realize I was hitting poison ivy. Both legs were a crusty, oozing mess for 2 weeks. My coworkers took pity and went out and got my lunch for me every day, knowing that walking was an ordeal. Good times.

Good video.

Justino

my15minutes says...

from the source @ youtube:

The animated film, “#Justino,” features a security guard at a mannequin factory. Since Justino works the graveyard shift, he has very few chances to interact with his coworkers. With a little bit of creativity, Justino devises ways to connect with his colleagues by using the factory’s mannequins to create situations both amusing and moving. His coworkers appreciate his playfulness each morning, and find a way to repay his generous spirit in kind.

One new feature this year is social media activation. The factory, “Fábrica de Maniquíes El Pilar,” has its own Facebook profile reporting on its day-to-day activities. And we can follow Justino’s nights in real time via his Instagram account @justino_vigilante.

On Nov. 16, #Justino, from the animated short, became the No. 1 trending topic in Spain and No. 5 in the world on Twitter. The film exceeded 1 million views on YouTube within a day.

A national tradition since 1812, Spaniards look forward to the annual Christmas lottery even if it means standing in line for hours to purchase the tickets. Nicknamed El Gordo, which means “the fat one,” prizes are valued up to more than €2.2 billion, making it the biggest lottery prize in the world.

It’s common to “share” the lottery by buying “participaciones,” or “shared tickets” at offices, with friends and family, and at bars. The belief is that the Christmas lottery is unique because it’s one that Spaniards participate in together, and if they win, they win together.

Bill Burr White Guilt and Racial Stereotypes in Movies

poolcleaner says...

My black friend likes to talk about chicken and watermelon, and then we (group of friends/coworkers of varied races/nationalities/sexualities) ALWAYS laugh. Why do we always laugh? It's not fake or even nervous laughter -- he's just a goddamn funny dude; goes around doing a combination of Urkel and Denzel.

His story is the story of a black man that came to White/Asian Irvine California to teach the other races how to laugh -- and to pick up on hot Asian women near UCI. Sort of the opposite of the Hilarry Swank movie in all regards.

I've lived in areas of Orange County where it was very white and very racist, parts of the American "South" where it was very white and very racist, parts of Orange County where it was very hispanic and very racist, and parts of Orange County where it was so racially diverse no one really cared a goddamn what you look like, other than if you were a nerd or a jock.

Perception of racial issues depends almost entirely on where you live.

Jon Stewart on Charleston Terrorist Attack

scheherazade says...

Police don't treat anyone with respect, unless it's someone above them in the government food chain.

Also, respect is a non issue. Expecting anything more than 'being ignored' by those around you is expecting too much. No one is obligated to respect you. They just shouldn't mess with you.

I've been approached at gunpoint, and I've been give a rundown of made up charges, does that make me black?

I also have coworkers and friends that have gone to court for made up charges - because a cop felt like grimacing.

The idea that inappropriate police behavior is a 'black problem' is at best short sighted.

That said, I agree that it's obvious that blacks on average get a bigger F U from cops than whites do.

(Ironically, statistics show that black cops also fuck with blacks more than they fuck with whites - which indicates that there are also cultural issues at play.)

I don't know why the kid wasn't shot.

Maybe the cop saw a scrawny white kid and simply didn't feel intimidated.

Maybe the cop really wanted to shoot the kid, but his department was keenly aware of the recent police brutality issues on TV and gave everyone headed to the scene a stern talking to about how if they make <whatever town it was> into the next city with protests, they'll all be looking for new jobs and will be charged with crimes.

I don't know, I wasn't there.

My comment was a response to @scheherazade and the whole "The Civil War wasn't about Slavery" argument.

Which again, is just another white/ruling-class privilege talking point to diffuse the crux of the issue.

Black people still aren't treated with respect. 150 after the "abolition of slavery".

So of course you don't understand, Bobknight.

You refuse to accept anything that doesn't mesh with the "reality" in your head.

Explain to me why an armed gunmen who's just murder 9 people gets captured alive..

But any unarmed black man who looks at an officer funny gets shot to death before they knew what happened.

Service dog alerts to self harm (Aspergers)

ulysses1904 says...

Pardon my cynicism, I love dogs and I donate to many dog training programs like this. But having said that, this looks like it was done for the camera, instead of the camera just being at the right place at the right time, which bugs me.

It also bugs me that "Aspergers" is stamped all over every other story you read now. Now Jerry Seinfeld and David Byrne and apparently half the offspring of half of my coworkers have a "touch of Aspergers" or are on the "autism spectrum". It's like a freaking designer diagnosis now.

And there's no shortage of news stories about someone who was the victim of road-rage or excessive police force who "suffered from Aspergers" and probably didn't understand the situation. Apparently calling them an "honor student" doesn't generate enough pathos anymore.

I'm sure I'll be misunderstood but I have nothing but empathy for this person in the video and all those that GENUINELY suffer from this.

White Party - A Lesson in Cultural Appropriation

GenjiKilpatrick says...

Holy FUCK this comment is ridiculously racist.
You should understand that, right?

In a Rational world, nowhere on the face of the planet..

would anyone contradict themselves in the same sentence, message, or idea..

..then immediately assert that they're "totally-not-that-thing"..

while continuing to do or be that very thing that "they're-totally-not"..

That angsty "ALL humans are scumbags" & flowery bit at the end DOES NOT magically make you not "impossibly-not-that-at-all-because-i-don't-FEEL-i'm-that-way" because still..

You are effectively gloating about your white privilege, then sayin'
"let's not make it about race or anything tho".

And all rest of you upvoters..

should feel like thickheaded, numbskulls for endorsing and/or essentially gloating & chuckling along with.

Seriously, re-read this quote here..

If you heard a coworker speaking like this.. would you not be uncomfortable? No?

JustSaying said:

There, I said it. I'm not even trolling here.

Honestly, ..white people are just better at [racism].

The RNC, Nuremberg Rallies or even random Ku Klux Klan gatherings are far more offensive than anything black people could do.

If there's one thing where white people are far more superiour [sic] than anybody else, it's having a feeling of superiority.

I'm not a racist,

However, ..there are some things a certain group of people is statistically better than others.
Sometimes it's in the genes, sometimes it's in the culture ..

Office Pet Gone Wrong

JustSaying says...

True story: I asked a coworker once if she liked cats, she told me she liked spiders better than cats. I offered her to find a cat sized spider as a pet but for some reason she declined.

She's speaking English...I think...

MilkmanDan says...

I actually got almost all of it (missed 2-3 words to a combination of crowd noise and the accent) without subtitles. But I've got several UK friends and coworkers, English and Irish, plus having English friends of the family that visited often when I was growing up.

A lot of the folks in my small hometown in Kansas are the type that have never been out of the state, and who need the TV subtitles even for accents that seem really easy to me like BBC English, New Zealand, Sydney (not broad Australian), etc. Just hopeless with accents.

But actually, the best thing about the video was her story -- which was actually quite funny assuming I got the "IRA" implication correct.

New Yorker on Kanye West, Beck

My wife gets a lot of free tickets to big music events in LA, several of which have had Kanye West headlining. Do you think we bothered watching the headliner? Not a chance. If we weren't obligated to meet her coworkers at the event we'd have sold that shit on Craigslist np.

Jurassic World - Official Super Bowl Spot

poolcleaner says...

I have been looking forward to this for a long time. Haters sit back. Just shhhhhhhhhh. Hush now. We know. We don't care. We rikey.

This is an old man '90s moment, i watched Jurassic Park around a dozen times in theaters. We used to go to the cheap theaters 5 years after release and JP would still be playing every weekend. This certainly won't be the same phenomenon but it sorta feels like it could be good.

A nice "could be good" is enough for me at the moment.

Btw, I know and play video games with the guy who drives the JP Jeep around Orange County, CA and a coworker of mine like still wears Jurassic Park shirts he's had since he was 12. So we have ourselves a little fan club.

Why wear a helmet

The police officers could be heard yelling stop resisting ;)

It's not being anti-cop, it's being anti-bad-cop...

You probably won't remember the recent video of a great cop that booked a guy tailgating a cyclist. You know, because it doesn't feed in to the narrative that exists between your ears.

Oh yeah, and why should we go tit for tat posting up criminals doing criminal things? They are criminals... We kinda fucking expect them to be the "bad" guys, it's hardly a surprise when they are... It's when the people put in a position of power and trust, public service, abuse that position that it's noteworthy. Sadly, that happens so often now that the most noteworthy points are when an officer performs with distinction, honour and humility, exactly the way he or she should...

http://videosift.com/video/How-a-Good-Cop-Behaves

Or how about this, where one good cop get's crushed because the dept. prefers to support two bad ones? The risk of being an honourable person in the police force isn't just from criminals, it's from coworkers as well.

http://videosift.com/video/Bogota-Police-Officer-Regina-Tasca-Suspended

So climb off your fucking self righteous steed (it must be uncomfortable riding it with your head up your ass). If you served as a police officer as you claim, your postings here give a pretty good indication of the type you were. And if you were a "good cop" in the truest sense of the words, doesn't your stomach turn to see how the entire profession is being dragged down by the criminals in your own ranks?

lantern53 said:

Surprised to read that 'the cops are supposed to be the good guys', which is quite contrary to the usual rant, which seems to be 'the cops are the agents of the antichrist'.

Being anti-cop is a lot like being racist, don't you think? If you spend time with people you don't know, you can begin to relate to them. Perhaps you should spend more time with the cops in your town. Maybe there is a ride-along program. You might be surprised what you learn from the experience.

...

You might also show at least one video of cops being run over by cars, or shot to death for every video like this.

Last Week Tonight - Ferguson and Police Militarization

VoodooV says...

Still angry about that small sample size eh? still haven't looked up anecdotal either I see.

That's a very poor definition of thug, as that actually describes life in general.

traditions are ALWAYS challenged and eventually put down, convention is ALWAYS challenged and put down, Laws are always challenged and changed. Social responsibility is an ever changing term

30 years as a cop means nothing, it's just a pathetic appeal to authority fallacy, and you just being insecure...again, about a great many things, which prompts you to play your tired Internet Tough Guy routine. The 90s called, they want their early internet "debate" tactics back.

as a former cop (gee, wonder why you aren't anymore) you should know that you are answerable to the taxpayers...That means I'm your boss dipshit. not the other way around, your former coworkers would do well to remember that.

you push us? we push back.

funny, I don't see the thug term being applied to any white criminals. just the black ones.

Anarchist? are you deaf blind and dumb? (oops, my bad, of course you are)

choggie and blankfist are/were the resident anarchists. Both were banned and my comment history shows me arguing with them constantly. You don't like to read though do you..

You just aren't very good at this are you.

lantern53 said:

Wrong again, brainiac. Thug is a word that describes living the 'thug life', you know...disregard for tradition, convention, laws, social responsibility.

A thug is a criminal, someone who commits a shoplifting by force, a felony in most jurisdictions.

naturally, you being an anarchist... the cops are always wrong.
