Destiny - The Law of the Jungle

The gameplay mockup looked pretty pedestrian to me. Coop shooter? It looked less interesting than Borderlands 2.

Regardless, if Gustavo Fring tells me to buy a video game I will.

I like Yahtzee but honestly it's becoming very tiring having to accept that he's only willing to review games on his "terms".

He's made it repeatedly clear that he never plays online, not co-op and not competitive. Which means he played this game alone, which is very much a possibility but obviously not a proper way to review a game specifically designed for co-op.
He refuses to acknowledge any amount of effort put into the development of types of features he doesn't enjoy (but that a ton of other players do), and instead of at least giving credit where it's due he ignores those aspects completely.

Borderlands has always been about loot, Borderlands 2 does this EXTREMELY well but he couldn't give a rat's ass.
It's like letting someone review DOTA and hearing him complain about the lack of a proper plot and that just generally he hates RTS games (or however the hell you'd define DOTA).

There's more to reviewing games than just saying what you like and what you don't, especially when your taste is super-specific.

Finally someone states it outright, I usually think yahtzee exaggerates his criticisms for effect, but he's spot on here: Borderlands was the most boring game ever. I cant for the life of me understand why anyone would like it even a little. Bad acting, terrible "humor", and every billionth gun more boring and generic than the previous billion boring generic guns. And that's not even mentioning the horrible "collecting garbage" system to build stuff. I'd really rather take a real-life job as a garbage collector. At least then it wouldn't be virtual garbage.

For obvious reasons, I haven't picked up BL2, and don't intend to.

Not thinking too hard is key for this one, like not thinking about how futile it must be to kill someone and then have them just re-spawn again. Hyperion even runs the network that allows this to happen, and Jack never once seems to consider wandering into the server room and just quietly erasing your latest backup so that the next time you die it's permanent.
>> ^Jinx:
He's right on exactly everything...but I still kind of like the game. It expanded on the only thing people gave a fuck about in the original - guns. Its not a complex game and its pretty shallow but I still find it enjoyable if I don't think too hard...much like watching a crappy action movie with friends.

I didnt think of that...probably because I wasn't thinking. But hey, there is a quest at one point where Jack actually asks you to kill yourself. Like you throw yourself off a cliff, respawn and collect the reward from Jack. Lets just assume that all Hyperion cares about is profits. Killing me permanently would close off a potential revenue stream from that guy that hoovers cash out of toilets.

Touche.. Stopped playing the first one after the zillionth time i had to return to base and the next mission was literally just meters from where the previous one was. Boring as hell.

You do know that, while you can track only one at a time, it doesn't mean you can't do every quest on your list before you turn them it. It takes two seconds to select another active quest and go.

I didn't really care much for Xen myself, I get all the way through an awesome FPS to end up in some alien Super Mario land, being attacked by a giant testicle monster. That said, if it actually comes out on the 14th then I'll probably give it a look since Borderlands 2 won't be available for a few days yet.

Actually I got demo access because I own another of Gearbox's games, Borderlands. They gave Steam owners of Borderlands first access too.>> ^entr0py:

>> ^Hybrid:
Well the demo is now out. I have to say, having played through it, it felt very dated... and some of the art in there was clearly very old. It just wasn't what you'd come to expect of a game released today.

You mean the demo exclusively for people who've committed to buying the game? I guess they don't want anyone who is still skeptical actually playing it. That doesn't seem like a good sign.
