Counter Protest Attacked In Charlottesville, Va

bcglorf says...

Our legal system up here already has codified that 'idiocy', and it's been in place quite awhile.

The women's only clothing optional spa that tried to say 'no penises allowed' is legally at odds with the provincial human rights code:
http://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/male-genitalia-policy-spurs-backlash-at-toronto-women-s-spa-1.3456844

The Canadian charter of human rights also lists freedom from discrimination as being no different for choice/behaviour things like religion, alongside birth traits like race or gender. So legally our system doesn't think rejecting a clergy application for being atheist as any different to rejecting it because of race.

And I kind of hate using a 'trivial' and much trumpeted example from America but a bakery not wanting to make a cake based on people's sexual preferences was declared illegal:
http://aclu-co.org/court-rules-bakery-illegally-discriminated-against-gay-couple/

I'll try to summarise my last paragraph better.

The Democratic party needs to reach out to people that didn't vote Hillary. They are instead choosing to condemn those that didn't vote Hillary as racists or friends of racists. They need to be doing the exact opposite. They need to find things to compromise on and reach out to the people that didn't vote Hillary. That doesn't have to necessarily be on any of the ideas I've tossed out above, but they've gotta do something.

A last point, the moral relativism or correctness of the cause here isn't the only thing that matters. If you can't convince a majority of the population that you are on the side of their self interest and liberties and freedoms, then you are going to lose. The things I've listed are examples of the left taking away freedoms that many on the right consider important or even fundamental to them. If no compromises can be made, the Democrats haven't got much reason for optimism about the next election looking any better.

Ahhh...ok...so there are a smattering of insane idiots that don't get they advocate forcing their group to accept, let's say Nazis into their hierarchy.
I certainly hope your leaders understand and don't support those short sighted idiots.
Keep in mind, there's a big difference between 'my group will hate you and complain if you do "x"' and 'you may not do "x"'.
Hires for businesses the church owns can't be discriminatory, not church hierarchy. Sounds right to me.
If there's no law, no complaints will be heard in the courts, at least here in the U.S.. Does Canada litigate legal civil behaviour?

You totally lost me with your last paragraph....but it sounds like you are confusing the ultra far left for democrats....they aren't. Sadly, they are being courted by democrats, something I would like to see stop.

New Rule: Trump and the Long Con

newtboy says...

It makes one wonder....what's @bobknight33 s take on this weeks total failure of another of Trump's main campaign promises, immediate repeal and replacement of the ACA, even though Republicans have full control of congress and enough votes to do what they like?
What about his promise of better health care for everybody for less money, but his bill actually offered much higher premiums (>20% higher immediately) and 24 million more people without healthcare, and those who manage to keep their insurance would find it useless since it would no longer cover prescriptions, doctor visits, hospitalization, emergency room visits, etc. Not exactly better care for less, is it?

How about the wall, now paid for with taxes, not Mexico?

How's the war on Daesh going, are they eradicated yet like he said they would be instantly with his great secret plan? No? Oh, what did the Democrats do that saved Daesh from his perfect knowledge of military actions?

Also, what's Bob's take on the bi-partisan congressional investigative committee (that now clearly needs to be made an independent prosecutor run investigation since a committee member decided to report directly to the suspect of the investigation rather than his investigative committee) saying there is far more than circumstantial evidence of collusion with the Russians and his campaign? That's treason, and this level of treason, once proven, calls for execution not prison, and certainly not just removal from office.

Is there a point where average Trumpeteers will admit they made a huge mistake, or is this guy the only one that sees reality?

Audi Super Bowl 2017 Commercial

eric3579 says...

As if Volkswagen (Audi's parent company) gives two shits. It's an ad meant to sell cars in the end. I'm sure the free publicity will help sales more than hurt them. I'd bet they knew exactly what they were doing regarding backlash and the free publicity they would garner. Call me cynical but i can't imagine corporations will trumpet an issue unless they profit from it in some way, regardless of it's social importance or validity.

Look How Desperate They Are to Steal This Election!

newtboy says...

I guess they are part of the near 60% of Trumpeteers that don't know she got almost 3 million more votes than Trump, and the only actual voter fraud found was double voting on the Trump side, right? Ignorance is their hallmark, so at least they're consistent.

President Trump: How & Why...

radx says...

That path only leads to depression, my friend. If sexism and/or racism is the criteria, Berlusconi was in and out of office for 17 years. Victor Orban is in office right now. Marine Le Pen is a very real possibility next year. That's a lot of Trumpets if I may borrow Mark Blythe's term for it...

It's also a lot of people willing to overlook seemingly disqualifying characteristics. Which cuts to what truly fills me with sadness: just how pathetic of an alternative must the Left, of which I am a part, be providing these days if people prefer the right-wing alternative, no matter how ugly its face might be...

entr0py said:

That is true, but I think a similar categorical statement can be made; everyone who voted for Trump was willing to overlook sexism and racism in a presidential candidate. That is very nearly as sad.

Commie Jews!

Sorry, my grandma got a hold of my keyboard. You know grandma. Hates her some commies and some jews. I'm tucking her into bed for night night. I wanted to tell her a bed time story about Bernie the Dinosaur but all she wants to hear is the tales of Trump and his Trumpeters.

trump supporters get violent with silent protesters

newtboy says...

Agreed, but only 1 Trumpeteer got violent. He's the only one I saw that deserved to be removed. I can even support them removing the protesters because they aren't wanted at a private function, but not over policing actual violence that happens right in their face. Ignoring that is outrageous in my eyes, and a reportable shirking of their sworn duties.
More than one supporter was being far more disruptive than the protesters, but that's kind of par for the course at these rallies....then again so is the violence it seems.
Oh how the Republicans have fallen. I recall not that long ago when they were considered the 'adult' party.

Removing 2 protesters surrounded by 1000's of angry rednecks is easier than removing 1000's of angry rednecks from a Trump rally.

so because williams uses an orchestra with a triumphant trumpet here or there it's ripping-off anyone else who has composed something using similar instrumentation? Shows a complete lack of understanding about music and how chord progressions are built...

Religion VS Reality

shinyblurry says...

Hey Rflagg, you asked a good question. Why, if you believe that you do here will effect your eternity, would you live according the system of this world? Jesus gives us an answer:

Matthew 6:19-21

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.

But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Your heart condition will determine how you live. If you love God with all of your heart, you will live for Him and His Kindom, and your life will reflect that. If your heart is for the things of this world, that is what you live for. This is why the scripture warns us:

1 John 2:15-17

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

For all that is in the world--the desires of the flesh, the desires of the eyes, and the pride of life--is not from the Father but from the world.

The world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God remains forever.

When it says do not love the world, it doesn't mean the people of the world, but the system of the world. If you live in the west you are used to seeing nominal Christians practicing a lukewarn faith. This isn't how it is in many parts of the world; there are many Christians out there with their eyes set on eternity. Many Christians here in America, as well, but they don't sound a trumpet before themselves so you don't see them.

This video, like many others, has such a mistaken view of what the scriptures say about faith; it is referring to a blind faith whereas the scripture calls us to believe based on what God has revealed to us. There is a living God who reveals the truth of His word, and everyone who is seeking Him will find Him.

New Yorker on Kanye West, Beck

Well, he continually trumpets himself, he's a master of the egophone, and he's been hailed as the ultimate douchebagpiper.

Oh, and does it count that he makes me want to commit violinse?

Okay, I just posted this on another video..., but it may make more sense here.

"I will never respect Kanye for his actions. And to top it, I will never forgive him for his contributions to the music industry. Does he even play an instrument?"

Muslims Interrogate Comedian

chingalera says...

....and his assumption (based upon, and I am assuming and am guessing here, some personal grudge against Christianity-at-large) that Westborough Baptist Church represents a large segment of Christianity-at-large, is complete and utter nonsense. They are a fringe-element example, trumpeted and showcased for their abject insanity in media and the internet usually with a view to touting an 'Atheist-is-the-Ultimate-Sanity paradigm.

My_design said:

I don't think they are your best argument. Westboro's popularity stems from their rally's at the funerals of military veterans. Something a majority of Christians have an issue with. As far as their anti-gay sentiment goes, many Christian sects are revising their views on the gay lifestyle, although it is causing some serious rifts.
Now if you were to exchange Westboro for Radical Anti-Abortionists that bomb abortion facilities and kill doctors...well then you have a pretty strong argument!
