Galavant - Secret Mission

Drachen_Jager says...

I used to see Timothy Omundson fairly often on weekends. He'd take his kids out to the same playground I'd take my kids.

Seemed like a nice guy, but I didn't approach him because I had no idea of his real name and it felt too weird to go, "Hey, you're that guy from Jericho and Judging Amy, right?"

Once I overheard him talking about how excited his agent was for this new role and that they'd asked specifically for him. Next thing I heard he was in Galavant, so I presume that's the role.

You do understand, do you not, that the terrors of Mathew and Timothy (Jesus and Paul) were all things they saw happening at the time, right? You do grasp, I hope, that these issues are the normal human condition, and have been issues since civilization started, eons before anyone ever heard the name Yahweh, and a constant since men have built stationary houses.

Pretty hilariously hypocritical for him to warn against "this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts," when, from an outside viewpoint, religion is what does that far more often and effectively with a supporting community to enforce the subjugation.

Even if no one served the Lord, it doesn't change the fact that the Lord loves you and wants you to turn back to Him. You're speaking of others conviction; I am here doing the Lord's will and telling you that He is calling you; do you have any conviction about that? I pray that you do.

Jesus spoke about these times:

Matthew 24:10-12

And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold

Paul also spoke about these times:

2 Timothy 3

But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith; but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was

So what you're seeing and what you're angry about are the signs which confirm we are in the last days. Our reaction to that should be humility, not anger. These are the last days and the Lord is coming back to judge the Earth. The Lord will cleanse His church like He cleansed the temple; judgment begins at the house of the Lord. Our response to these things should be personal repentance and a determination to take on the responsibility of carrying the message of redemption to all people.

You must take your eyes off of men and put them back on the Lord, because that is the only place you will find clarity. God is calling you back to Himself.

Fuck the Lord. I'd rather me and my children burn in Hell for all eternity than be around his people for all eternity. People who'd rather help the rich than help the needy and poor. People who'd rather see my child with Asthma die than have their tax money or insurance premiums go up so that he could be covered. People who are so full of hate they favor Nazis over black people. Because none of them have any convection in their heart over any of that. They voted for a guy like Trump, thinking that is what Jesus would do. Fuck his people, and fuck him if he won't convict them over their anti-christ ways... which is what the whole Republican party is, the anti-christ... if there were such a thing.

Don't you mean TWO Timothy? Oh wait, Obama quoted this. I thought he only quotes out of the Kor Anne tho. Ehh -- DERP.

hi, hello, i bible am coming to meet you today .

Yeah, at this point in his speech (after the thanks) last year, Obama was quoting scripture.
"And on this occasion, I always enjoy reflecting on a piece of scripture that’s been meaningful to me or otherwise sustained me throughout the year. And lately, I’ve been thinking and praying on a verse from Second Timothy: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind."

Trump then goes on talking how he'll destroy the Johnson amendment, passed by a Republican congress and President, that limits the ability of non-profits from endorsing candidates, so that preachers can more freely endorse candidates... not that the law has stopped them yet anyhow, and the government never seems to enforce that rule.

Then Trump goes on about the typical Republican love of war... which of course in contrary to the teachings of Jesus, but the crowd loved it. Nothing makes modern right wing Christians happier than murdering and killing non-white, non-Christians, but they're "pro-life"... blah... anyhow, yeah.

There's no depression in Ireland!

hazmat22 says...

The YouTube page description is just the licensing info, then if you go to storyful.com the video description is "Web Comedian Explores Irish Attitudes to Depression".

The description is "In this YouTube skit, two people are discussing a friend’s illness. YouTube comedian Sir Stevo Timothy explains the illness in many creative ways, but his female companion is sure that it’s depression. The two cannot agree, but the conversation highlights some Irish people’s ideas about this subject in a humorous way."

So staged actors but a serious topic still.

Father and Daughter, Both With Tourettes Play Cards

eric3579 says...

"Aside from Tourette's, brain injuries, strokes, dementia , seizures and many other forms neurological damage can usher the onset of coprolalia as well. It is known to be caused by brain dysfunction, but the details are, as yet, hazy. One hypothesis, described by psychologist Timothy Jay in his book "Why We Curse" (John Benjamins Pub Co. 2000), suggests that it's caused by damage to the amygdala, a region of the brain that normally mitigates anger and aggression. Because cursing is a form of verbal aggression, amygdala damage could result in the inability to control aggression, including verbal aggression, or cursing."

One thing I never took the time to learn about tourettes is why are the verbal outbursts like this usually curse words? Why is it tits, arse, fuck, damn....why not tree, ball, yard, sky....what makes those words their triggered effects?

Ken Burns slams Trump in Stanford Commencement

Golden quote:
"In this week of trial and tragedy, Trump showed us how he would govern — by fear, by intimidation, by lies, by turning American against American, by exhibiting all the empathy of a sociopath. Seal this week. Put it in a time capsule. Teach it. History will remember. But come November, will we?"

By the way, I've stayed out of this extremely boring back and forth. There was nothing to be gained by weighing in. It finally has come to a blessed end, just as this op-ed was published in the New York Times.

So I'll say it again, since this video is my contribution to the Sift and I am claiming final word. I may not be accorded it, but I am claiming it.

It is a stone hard fact that eligible does not equal fit. A brain-damaged accident victim with the right birth certificate, with the right age, is eligible to be president. That person is not fit to be president. This is logic. It just is. You can ignore the crystalline beauty of the fact of this analogy and have a fine time talking around it. Doesn't change the fact that Ken Burns is right, Timothy Egan is right, Mitt Romney, both Bushes, Meg Whitman, and the Republican strategist who is quoted in this op-ed are all right.

Trump is unfit for the Presidency.

Does Hitler and Timothy McVeigh being Christian win them some points with you?

CNN anchors taken to school over bill mahers commentary

VoodooV says...

Yeah I gotta agree. I can see why Reza is pissed. I agree that Bill is painting with broad strokes here. But still. It's religion. Doesn't matter which religion you're talking about. Deal with it. This is what happens when you believe in imaginary friends. people take shit too far, they take "holy" writings too literal.

Americans may want to try and pat themselves on the back but there are plenty of Christian extremists out there Hitler was Christian, Timothy McVeigh was Christian. The moderates immediately go to the "no true scottsman" fallacy.

Im reminded again of the analogy I made earlier. Comparing religions is like comparing the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. One may have technically caused more death and destruction than the other, but they're BOTH pretty fucking horrible.

There is this phenomenon where you have all these people who claim to be of a certain religion yet have radically different views. so they are simultaneously able to claim they're all right and all wrong at the same time, whichever is most convenient to them at any given moment.

Of course there are peaceful and extreme of every religion, but yet they all claim to be of that religion just because they don't share your particular flavor of that religion doesn't mean you get to casually dismiss them at will.

again we have the issue of religion cherry picking what it likes and ignoring what it doesn't.

HBOs 'Questioning Darwin' - Creationists Talk Creationism

Shhhhhhh, shhhh, hush now. Repeat the mantra of Proverbs 1:7: "The FEAR of THE LORD is the beginning of knowledge."

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.

Fear God, Bible true, science bad, fear God. Therefore science bad.

And if it wasn't already clear that science and the modern Bible CANNOT exist side by side, repeat the mantra of 1 Timothy 6:20-21:

"Turn away from godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge, which some have professed and in so doing have wandered from the faith."

So it behooves the Christian NOT to involve oneself with documentaries which debate or discuss such matters, simply turn away and be content in your faith. Don't respond to my comment; don't argue; don't say anything. Jesus says walk away, son. Even if it's not printed in red, remember that Bible = Word of God = Word of Jesus Therefore Jesus says.

And so perfectly too! Therefore, again as it always has been, it is the Word and the Word is Law. So -- holy crap, man, THE LAW -- don't violate any of these thought crimes against God. Or you might suffer pain and all of that other stuff that death assigns to itself.

Duck Dynasty Is Fake!

bcglorf says...

Two things in all this stand out as really worrisome to me. First off, the hateful quote was almost a paraphrasing of the bible. And not the old testament parts that Christianity will dismiss as being supplanted/fulfilled by the coming of Christ, but the new testament. First Timothy 9 and 10 are:

We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine...

It's not hating on gays or comparing them to murderers, it is just listing off a laundry list of behaviors deemed sinful and thus contrary to God's will. Even getting drunk and swearing count, so it's no more hateful against gays than it's hateful against any other non believers choices and lifestyles.

I am worried by our society as a majority looking upon that and either classing it as hatred, or worse still, using it to justify their hatred.

My next beef is the entire liberal side of the country that state like the guy in the video, freedom of speech doesn't mean A&E isn't also free to fire the guy for what he says. I don't disagree with that though. My problem is that if that same hillbilly came out and spoke about his abiding support for same-sex marriage and then A&E exercised their 'freedom' to fire him for his speech, those same Liberals would be up in arms at the injustice. That rankles me something fierce.
