Weird Al Yankovic Explains the Internet to Fox's Stuart V...

lucky760 says...

I love Weird Al so very much and have since I was a child in the 80s. He's such a brilliant, funny guy and a great role model for young people.

And I just adore his humor:

Stuart: "When did you start?"
Weird Al: "What, this interview? About 5 minutes ago."

32-YEAR CONTRACT?! Say whaaat?

"Europe is quietly rotting out"

radx says...

The abundance of profits looking for a purpose was detailed by other panelists during the conference. In fact, either Yanis Varoufakis or Stuart Holland layed out their plan to use the EIB to tap into these unused mountains of cash and direct them towards a massive investment program.

That said, every single one of these 10-15 minute talks is focused on one specific part of the problem or a possible solution and I don't think I could get 10 votes for an entire panel, much less the entire conference. This video was my probe to see if anyone's interested at all. Which is also why it's rather general in nature and doesn't depend on a priori knowledge about the structure of the eurozone.

He didn't really provide any unknown information, and also didn't mention the most pertinent issue which is that there is plenty of wealth, it's just concentrated in fewer hands.

Is California Becoming A Police State?

Mordhaus says...

Since it is a domestic violence call, the judge would have to look at precedent cases. There are countless state level cases that uphold a warrant-less entry in the case of possible violence to someone in the home, visible or not. Brigham City v. Stuart is one that went to SCOTUS and further cemented the situation.

Based on the that sadly broad ruling, if a 911 call is made claiming even possible domestic violence, police can force entry into a residence to see if everyone is ok. I don't like it or agree with it, but they will walk on any charges from the entry.

I do think they could call the immediate use of a taser into question, however.

harlequinn said:

Requesting at first.

It became a demand just before they kicked the door in.

Judges don't argue - ever - they make a ruling on law. We don't know whether a judge will rule this a legal entry or an illegal entry.

CNN Amazingly Bad News Fail -The Daily Show

chingalera says...

In light of this obvious development, how many times a day do you think the media fucks your mind with bullshit? How many hours? What is the news that you can realistically benefit from? Most importantly, why waste another second of your life with a television?

All broadcast media is poisonous diversion, including the comedic taint, Mr. Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz.

The reason I've pushed you to read it is not really to try to convert you, so much as to help you achieve greater understanding of present-day liberal thought (by having you read a book that was first published in 1863, naturally).

Personally, I see it as the antithesis of "natural rights" philosophies. There's none of this crap where the whole thing starts out front loaded with preconceived notions of right and wrong asserted as natural/divine/objective moral absolutes.

All it really starts out with is the observation that the primary way we experience the world is though pain and pleasure...

It's also short (96 pages!), and free on Google books and Amazon Kindle...

Ron Paul On race, drugs and death penalty

GeeSussFreeK says...

@Pantalones

The subject of rights is vast, and as old as the Greeks. The most relevant thinkers that directly tie to this line of questioning are Thomas Hobbes, and John Locke. Hobbs rejected the idea of Natural rights and divine orders, where Locke embraced it. Like Hobbs, I reject the idea of Natural, Divine rights, yet still embrace the idea of a social contract replacing natural rights with rationally negotiated rights.

Your counter argument is at the heart of what Positive and Negative rights are: I personally believe that only negative rights can be enforced; your right not to have something happen, where as others suggests that only positive rights can be asserted; your right too something. Wiki has a good read on it here.

I posted a video awhile back that wasn't very highly regarded because the guy is a little arrogant to start off, but the video really starts to get awesome deeper in if you can get past some of the arrogance to start. http://videosift.com/video/Tom-Woods-Where-Do-Rights-Come-From

So much to learn, so little time. Myself, I am still tasked by @NetRunner to read John Stuart Mill's book, but I suspect my rejection of natural rights/utility won't bold to well for me there. Go forth fellow truth seeker and find all the truths that I missed

O ya, and always consult the wiki on natural rights and social contracts, that will point you in so many directions and give you such a complement of names as to be lost for years in completely conflicting ways to view the world!
