Small chance I might be moving to Melbourne next year- if so, Sift Up is on - must go to Gaylords again.

Great reading dag, memory lane travelling to be sure.

I've dropped off my frequenting of the sift of late, haven't felt the real want to watch videos as much as I used to. It's still one of my homepage tabs though, and still the place on the web that I have by far posted the most content to.

Funny Comedian OWNS Girl Heckler

kymbos says...

There is something electric about being in a live audience and seeing someone heckle. Just that feeling that you're in no man's land, and this could go anywhere. I was lucky enough to see Marc Maron tee off on a drunk American woman in Melbourne - it was wild.

Meanwhile, who cares if he uploaded it himself? Man's gotta eat.

The Making of the Myer Christmas Windows 2012

oritteropo says...

The Myer Christmas window has been a tradition for many (57? The first one was 1956, the year of the Melbourne Olympics) years, but I'm sure I've heard of stores in other cities doing it too... a bit of googling says that in New York Macy's among others have Christmas window displays, and that there are similar displays in London. I would be entirely unsurprised if the Myer display drew inspiration from M&S actually...

Neat and timely. Is this an Australia only tradition? I never saw window displays like this until I came to Oz.

Kimmel: Starbucks Coffee Prank: New $7 Cup of Coffee

EvilDeathBee says...

Most North Americans have no idea what actual coffee tastes like in the first place, and I'm no coffee snob (at least compared to some of my friends back in Melbourne), but I've never had a really good cup of coffee here. At the best it's been adequate.

As for wine differences, are you serious? I never liked red wine, until I had some actual "good" red wine. Yes some of the cheaper brands can be quite good, but generally if it's a $30 bottle, it's going to be better than that $10 bottle (and much better than that box)

French Woman Racially Abused on Melbourne Bus

He had a fucking knife. I'm very cautious in proclaiming any hypotheticals. I'd like to think i'd at least let her know I wouldn't let anyone hurt her, but getting mouthy with a nutbag would only inflame the situation. >> ^ChaosEngine:

Scum. Sub-human scum.

Absolutely.
And I know it's easy to say this as a keyboard warrior, but I'm genuinely shocked that no-one stood up for her.
I hope if I'm ever in that situation I'd have the decency to punch that racist asshole.

Tow Trucks Recklessly Race Each Other to Reach an Accident

EvilDeathBee says...

Honestly? Good. Don't park on clearways right near the time, sorry but that seems like a no brainer, you should be gone before the time (even 5-10mins before). Not on it or a little after it, before it. The most frustrating thing in the world after cyclists (feel free, I don' hate you but you're still annoying as fuck ) is dicks who park on clearways, this causes a lot of traffic delays.
>> ^EvilDeathBee:
Goddamn vultures. In Melbourne, I've seen tow trucks driving up and down a section of road whose clearway times start soon so they can tow cars the second the clearway starts

Some people live on a clearway and have to park there over night. Few things annoy me more when driving than people parking in a clearway, but I'm not a dick. I don't demand they be out of it the minute the clearway time starts. People can be a bit late, you know
