It's not actually too bad here, we're hundreds of kilometres from the NSW fires, although they are so big that the smoke reached New Zealand. Rather weirdly, the smoke even reached Melbourne on Friday due to an inversion layer and unusual wind conditions. My Sydney based colleagues on the other hand have had air conditions much like Delhi in India (and for similar reasons). In fact my one young colleague who travelled to Delhi for a few weeks probably had better air quality there after rain cleared up the air in Haryana and Delhi!

You've moved it 200km north (it's really in the Victorian city of Melbourne, not NSW).

They pronounce his name exactly like anyone else in Melbourne would, except that a lot of us (not me!) would put a na-na-na-na-na before the batman.

I actually think a lot of them think the train station is named after the fictional crime fighter, particularly the shorter crowd.

I don't know where you live, but you can hire or steal a truck pretty easily here in Australia (one of the most heavily regulated countries in the world). And our regulations haven't stopped recent idiots mowing down people with cars on purpose (Melbourne!!!). They're thinking of putting bollards in place in strategic locations - because you can't regulate away what we don't want happening.

Yes, some things kill at lower rates than the examples but I had to end somewhere.

Vehicle ownership is not essential. You can have public transport service everyone just fine (e.g. Singapore). Of course, some people argue that what is good for Singapore may not be suitable for themselves (i.e. it is essential in my scenario because I say it is). And you can extend that same argument to firearms (that they are essential in someone else's scenario). Firearms have a measured economic benefit, protection benefit, health benefit (active outdoor sports), military benefit, etc.

Modern civilisation works fine (I'd argue it works better) without private vehicles. Try having a civilisation without firearms - you'll have to have awfully large mobs of bobbies armed with nothing but sticks. Good luck with that

Richmond in Melbourne is completely full of them too. I haven't seen quite as many further North where we are, but any park is likely to have at least a few.

You don't have well thought out opinions. Your examples are very poor.

Failing to avoid getting hit by a car as a pedestrian may or may not be the pedestrian's fault. I could give you literally thousands of examples where it is not the pedestrian's fault (and I bet the statistics show this to be true the majority of the time) but I'll let you Google them yourself.

I sure as hell hope you're a spring chicken because if someone veers off the road at a high enough speed directed at you, you're going to have a hard time getting out of the way.

BTW, I'll let my mates who are still paramedics know to tell any pedestrians injured by cars (or family thereof for the deceased ones) that it was their fault, even when it wasn't.
