Container ship OOCL Belgium taking 40 degree roll

Air travel isn't much fun in those conditions either!

I once drove back to Melbourne from Adelaide right through a storm, and it was horrible with low visibility and some vans going 40 and others still going 100... but one of my colleagues flew, and actually passed right over me at some point, but he said it was the worst flight of his life.

Obviously the best option is to just wait out the storm!!!

Ugh. I'm starting to realize I'm susceptible to psychosomatic nausea...

This reminds me in a bad way of the one time I was in anything approaching rough seas. It was a ferry from Finland to Sweden, with winds around 30m/sec. In Stockholm, trams were thrown off their tracks by the wind.

I'd just had dinner when the waves hit and was lying down in my cabin, thinking that might be the easiest way to weather the ship's rocking. It wasn't. Decided to go out on deck to get some fresh air, a task slightly complicated by the way the floor kept falling out from under my feet while I was trying to walk. This on a ship built to transport some 3000 people.

End result, I might as well not have paid for the dinner, plus I self-diagnosed myself with an ear infection that really flared up about the same time. And this is almost an inland sea we're talking about, nothing like an ocean. I think I'll stick to planes for transcontinental travel, thank you very much.

I'd much rather Starbucks because when you ask for a latte, they make you a latte. They don't put a cup under a machine and it dispenses powdered milk and a tiny drip of instant coffee.

I miss the coffee in Melbourne. The best I've had here is from a popular cafe down the road from work called Olimpico. They're latte's are small, but damn good. If you're in the Mile End area of Montreal, check it out.

BRILLIANT Aussie Ad That Rupert Murdoch Had Banned

Januari says...

Thought that was pretty funny too. The guy was born in Melbourne but why pass up the opportunity to hurl such a great insult!

Rupert Murdoch is absolute garbage... but so is this video... and spewing total BS isn't how we're going to beat people like this.

I think it's funny how the Australians claim that Murdoch is now an American.

Apparently none of us want to claim him!

Low Security Jail In Norway

oritteropo says...

This video was talking about Norway, and the Norwegian system, and although there are some similarities with Sweden it would be a bit like me suggesting that Canada is unsafe because of crime in the U.S.A.

One thing that does stand out when looking at both countries is that they are very small. Norway has approximately the population of Melbourne (or Los Angeles) and Sweden is approximately New York City (or Melbourne and Sydney combined)... and of course there is more crime in the larger cities like Oslo than in smaller towns.

Thanks for your comment since, despite not entirely agreeing with your original statement because I think the topic is a little more complicated than that, I have learned something (about both Norway and Sweden)

The reason you don't know this is because your thought-leaders intentionally hide information from you

The guy with the camera sounds like a Kiwi, but the rest all sounded like locals (it's a Melbourne train, I didn't pick which station though, it's not one I frequent).

Future Party of Australia

kymbos says...

I support the idea, but I'm not into a number of his policies. The NBN will drive so much more growth than a fast train line from Sydney to Melbourne, IMO. In fact, the internet will render the need for such travel redundant over time.

MOST ENTERTAINING COMMERCIAL I'VE EVER FUCKING SEEN

NaMeCaF says...

For those of you in the dark (or a bit daft) this isn't a "real" commercial, it's a skit from a comedy TV show in Australia called - you guessed it - The Elegant Gentleman's Guide To Knife Fighting. Nothing to do with knife fighting, just a plain ol' whacky name for a comedy TV show.

The saddest thing is, that guy is not far off from the real eco-nazis all living in and around metro Melbourne. They are psychotic
