I remember my "judgement day." Greif.

I discovered for myself that I, unknowingly, had written my own bible. I created all the rules that I thought I should hold dear. Little did I know that one day I would be judged by own bible.

Then I lost someone I loved. I became suicidal. I could not bear the loss and the pain.

My plan was to drive head on into a semi truck, thinking that hopefully the driver would survive somehow. I drove back and forth on the highway I picked to end my life.

I imagined what the crash would be like and who it would affect. Then I pictured something that stalled my plan.

Upon crashing into the truck I envisioned the people I love being crushed and dismembered in slow motion. My parents, siblings, friends, as though they were in the car with me.

In my death I would be the only survivor.

I had destroyed the world. With a single bullet, I could have destroyed the world. To me, that meant one thing. If I had the power to destroy the world, then I must have the power to save it. The only thing standing in my way was the bible I wrote for myself. Forgiving others was the easy part.

Forgiving myself was not so easy.

The very thing that almost killed me was now the thing I had to believe in.

Love.

Pure. Simple. Without demands or conditions.

Every human needs love. "There lies the rub."

I snatched the pebbles from the Master's hand. It was time for me to leave.

God was no different than great works of art, music, poetry.

If there is a God, it must be me because I now have the only power God ever had.

Love.

You might want to re-read your bible (I refuse to capitalize it).

Revelation 19:6:

And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.

Also Matthew 19:26 “with God, all things are possible” and Luke 1:37 “with God nothing is impossible” make it clear the Christian god is omnipotent without actually using the word.

And even if it wasn't explicitly written, in practice every major sect of Christianity follows the doctrine that the Christian god is both omniscient (i.e. going to judge everyone for their sins on judgement day) and omnipotent (i.e. can do anything, such as create a universe from nothing).

EDIT: So @newtboy's original comment stands. The bible's inconsistencies are too huge for anyone not completely indoctrinated into Christianity to ignore.

So, does that mean that even though we're Atheists and god should hate us, that he'll let us in anyway because even though we didn't believe he existed, we still actually lived our lives without forsaking others? you know. Without actually protesting and harassing others for fanatical beliefs, and helping others because we felt that humanity as a whole needed to improve rather than for fear of consequences if we don't?

Sounds like we Atheists have less to fear about judgement day than you do.

At least its good to know that SkyNet finally got a job after that whole Judgement Day thing didn't work out.

It's a complicated issue from a Christian perspective. Jesus said, if possible, live at peace with everyone. Overall, we should strive to avoid conflict and make peace, even at our own expense. However, this doesn't mean there is no such thing as a just war. WW2 for instance was a just war. Not everything done in WW2 was just or good, but our involvement as a nation was morally right. We had an obligation and a duty to defend the world (and ourselves) from the tryanny of the Nazi regime.

Jesus never says, go ahead and let someone kill you; don't defend yourself. Turn the other cheek means dont repay evil for evil and be ready to suffer patiently, not go ahead and let someone murder you. We are also told to follow the laws of the nation and seek after its well being. So, a case can be made for a just war, but this could only be very limited in scope. Our adventure in Iraq was very unjust and based on faulty intelligence and reasoning. I supported going after Osama bin laden in Afgahnistan, but on a limited basis and certainly not a nearly decade long conflict.

A war with Iran may be inevitable, but would it be just? Well, this is what we know..Iran is an islamic regime, and their goal is to acquire nuclear weapons. We also know that radical Islam is seeking to wipe Israel off the map, but many people don't understand why. The reason is, according to their end-times scenerio, that judgement day wont come until all the jews are killed:

"Judgment Day will come only when the Muslims fight the Jews and kill them, until the Jew hides behind the tree and the stone, and the tree and the stone say: ‘Oh Muslim, Oh servant of Allah , there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him"

So they have a religious duty, according to their hadiths, to destroy Israel. Iran possessing a nuclear weapon could make that a reality. For the sake of Israels existence, we may be committed to stopping Iran. If it happened, would the United States screw it up ever worse than Iraq? Almost certainly..but we also can't stand by and watch someone nuke Israel from the map.

Good to see we're still on track for the 2018 judgement day.
