Mr. Ebert, I presume?>> ^dannym3141:
Looks rubbish to me. A cross between <cookie cutter teen romance crap> and my super ex girlfriend mixed with flavour-of-the-month kickass. Dunno why you three are so excited.

If we're not allowed to review things unless we're professional reviewers, you better say the same to the other people who commented before me.

TedxTalks Kellee Santiago - Are Video Games Art?

braindonut says...

Argh, can't get the video to play. I've been watching the debate though, on the side, though... I may as well comment here, since I don't really care to comment in many communities elsewhere.

I love Ebert, I love video games and I love art. I should mention that.

My opinion on the topic, in 3 quick points:

1. Video games don't NEED to be art, but they can be. Just like so many other mediums. (Movies, architecture, writing, etc...)

2. People can say video games aren't art are until they are blue in the face. And their efforts and opinions will be just as moot. Art isn't arbitrated by experts - it changes definitions along with societal shifts. If that weren't the case, there would never be any change, movements, etc...

3. Calling something art doesn't suddenly raise it to a higher level of value in regards to the human experience. And saying something isn't art doesn't have any impact on its REAL value to humanity. Some of the most valuable things in human society are "not art." In fact, some things are far more valuable, influential and important than "art." Video games, actually, may end up being far more than JUST art. So again, moot discussion...

Ebert doesn't play games. It's painfully obvious by reading his response that he has never touched a controller, let alone played any of the games he dismisses. This is the same pattern repeating, the old dismissing the new. Oh joy, another naive and arrogant diatribe. yawn

Plus if he did play games he would be twice as fat and during clips for movie reviews he would always yell, "MONSTER KILL" with echo effects--™ every time a group of people die.

Was it not known at the time that Travolta was a member of the church? I wonder why they didn't draw any conclusions from that.
or probably didn't realize yet that Scientology is such a cooky cult

For some reason I'd have expected to see a fact-based program if it's called a "documentary".

Kind of disturbing to see the people who are so against "teaching to controversy" flocking around this production that lays on the mysticism so thick that I had to turn off after 3 minutes.

LOL..you watched THREE whole minutes?
and came to a conclusion about "teaching the controversy"?
WTG ebert!
eh../shrugs.maybe it is just me.if i watched THREE whole minutes of a two hour program i reserve my opinion due to the fact i know i have no clue wtf i am talking about.

Oprah Winfrey Show - Roger Ebert

The audio isn't syncing right for me, but, ultimately, that seems fitting for the struggles Roger Ebert is going through.

I can't help but upvote after hearing the voice replicating software they've developed for him!

"This is the kind of movie we've come to expect in the Star Wars series."
Ah, if only that had continued to be true after Jedi.

It baffles me how bad the prequels are in comparison. I would love to find out what was different this time around and just what went wrong.
