How They Sauce A Pizza At Costco

Coca Cola vs Coca Cola Zero - Sugar Test

shinyblurry says...

Used to drink a lot of soda..I'll occasionally have a soda at Costco with that hot dog deal but other than that, feel a lot better for giving it up. Still addicted to sugar though

Never Feed Your Cat Whipped Cream

I BUY MY CATS AND ENGLISH MASTIFF A TWELVE POUND BLOCK OF CHEESE FROM COSTCO AND FEED IT TO THEM JUST BEFORE THE INLAWS COME OVER

okay, no I don't, but you have to admit it's one hell of an idea.

Frozen Steaks vs. Thawed Steaks

mintbbb says...

We usually grill steaks (charcoal grill - Mr. NetRunner is Mr. Grillmaster, he rocks!). But I usually end up getting a 4-pack from Costco, then having 2, 2 go to the freezer.. And then I never remember to take the ones in the freezer out to thaw in the fridge in time.

The problem is: I have a teeny freezer atm, I really can't do the freezing in a sheet pan before packing it up. Also, we love the 'just grilling on the grill' and not putting anything in the oven. But I WILL try doing it this way, sounds very tempting! Would be great for those rainy days when you really, really wanted steak but it just keeps raining!

Bernie Sanders tears into Walmart for corporate welfare

radx says...

If there was no welfare of any sort, people would still have to apply at Walmart. People with stomachs to be filled far outnumber jobs that generate an income. And while the population is increasing, the number of jobs -- in the long run -- is actually decreasing.

It was always clear that automation would greatly reduce the number of jobs in manufacturing and agriculture, first and foremost. Given that the latest burst in technology is represented by Google, Apple, FB and Amazon, I'd say the hope of generating jobs through new areas of technology fell flat on its arse -- those four giants are worth a combined $1T, yet employ only 150k, or half as many as GE.

tl;dr

#people >> #jobs, exacerbated by robots/automation and politically suppressed aggregate demand

--------------------------

As for minimum wage being entry level wage: that's the idea, but given the age structure of fast food workers and the number of them who worked the job for years and years, it is merely theoretical in nature. Many people are stuck in it, others are floating in and out of employment at minimum wage level. Asking for a higher wage becomes a futile exercise as long as there's an army of willing replacements on the market. Some corporations try to minimize turn-over by paying above-average wages (Costco, Aldi), but the vast majority engage in a race to the bottom.

If you ask me, all of us deserve food in our stomachs, a roof over our heads. And health insure, while we're at it. The establishment over here used to call it the "revolution tax", because it allows people to retain some level of dignity and prevents them from chopping everyone's heads off with a guillotine. I prefer a considerably more expansive definition of human dignity, but I'm just one of those dirty socialists, so...

I say that if there was no welfare ( well not as much as there is today) then corporations like Walmart would have to pay more. Otherwise people would not even apply.

For every dollar the government hands out in welfare, the corporations have to give a dollar more to make working for them worthwhile.

Minimum wage is not to be a living wage but an entry level wage where one can better oneself and then one would have standing to ask for a higher wage.

Payback says...

That's what I paid at Costco for a Snap-On (I went and looked at it, it's not the same) I was just making a half-assed attempt to discredit your line of reasoning since it seemed to be based on the existence of the pressure washer...

Which can be explained away:

1)He borrowed it.
2)He rented it.
3)He stole it from the guy who made the complaint to the police.
4)He bought it on Craigslist from the guy who stole it from the guy who made the complaint to the police.
5)It's cheaper than you think it is.
6)He's got lots of money, but his kid has to pay for his own damn car because there's no way the kid's getting his irresponsible, slacker, dopehead hands on dad's classic Camaro, his 20" lifted Sierra, AND ESPECIALLY NOT his mom's Lexus LS600h.

Link to a product or that's as believable as this guy's story. The only reason one would have a power washer for such a POS car is if he's planning on washing a great volume. I bet he keeps that car less than a week...

...and in his next video, dated just 3 weeks later, the car he just bought is nowhere to be found. If you take this guy at face value, you're being played like a $2 violin, and I'll sell you a bridge for $2 more.

California Rehab Program Rife with Fraud

eric3579 says...

What i find a shame is that they can legally charge me $20,000 for 3 hrs in the hospital because i fell off my bike (which ill be in debt for forever probably), or 750 dollars a month they want to charge me at costco for one of the antidepressants I was taking (paid about 100 a month from Canada for the generic which they cant sell in the US). Also there is the $8500 my dentist wants to replace two of my front teeth which ill need in the next year or two. Personally ill take my chances with socialized medicine as I dont have the kind of money it takes to get better when i get sick or hurt. None of us should have to choose between medical attention/medication and the ability to eat or pay the bills. Thats just the way I see it. Thanks for letting me vent.

edit
Charging a patient $15 for a Tylenol is an absolute legal healthcare fraud(imo), but thats just good American business. http://www.rd.com/slideshows/wildly-overinflated-hospital-costs/#slideshow=slide1

and my apologies for going off topic @MrFisk

I guarantee, as healthcare becomes more socialized, we're going to see a whole lot more of this.

One Pissed Off Democrat in Michigan Speaks Up

jmzero says...

If anyone thinks corporations will pay it's employee's an upper wage for no reason when they can keep it for themselves then they're wrong.

There's plenty of industries where there's competition for workers, and companies are forced to pay higher wages to retain them. Where unions tend to increase wages is where there isn't competition for a type of labor.

And you're vulnerable to the same argument you're making. If you don't like what a company is offering for pay, or how dangerous your job is, just go find another one? The answer is that's not always an option. That's why unions came to be, and similarly, a lack of options can also make unions a big negative for some workers. My dad's union was a huge negative for him through his career, but there a government monopoly in his field so he had no choice. That monopoly and union broke up in the last few years before he retired - he made triple his wage, while many of the co-workers he'd carried for years couldn't find work.

Yes it's worth understanding what unions have done (and continue to do) for many workers - but they're not always a force for good. They reduce choice, consume resources, and open the door to negative politics and corruption (this is what hurt my dad, he could do his job but couldn't play the political games).

If anyone thinks corporations will pay it's employee's an upper wage for no reason when they can keep it for themselves then they're wrong.

I see this bizarre, absolute anti-corporatism everywhere right now, and
it's not just wrong and misinformed, it's poisonous. Lots of companies see success by paying their workers more, voluntarily, and reaping the benefits of having workers compete to work for them, value their jobs, and generally be better employees. Compare Costco and Walmart. There isn't only one way to corporate success, and many, many companies understand this. Reactionary anti-corporatism is as naive and wrong as blind corporate fealty.

But if you imagine that employment is a perpetual battle, instead of a mutual beneficially relationship, you are writing a self-fulfilling prophecy.
