Introducing Galaxy Nexus and Android Ice Cream Sandwich

I'm a (very happy) Nexus S user. I'll be skipping this particular generation of handset but am hugely looking forward to an Ice Cream Sandwich update for my unit. Keep up the great work, Google.

I wonder if they'll even be back-porting Ice Cream Sandwich for older devices. I'd imagine not since they'd need to customize it for the unsupportable features (e.g., software buttons need to be removed if physical buttons exist).

Well, today's the day!!! Ice Cream Sandwich official release downloading onto my Nexus S now, even before the Galaxy Nexus is released! I'm so excited... it feels like Christmas. Hopefully won't break the phone.
update: Phone isn't broken (hooray), works great so far, really snappy operation- scrolling through menus and button presses happen like right now. Aesthetics are updated of course- new icons, some new bacgrounds.. App menu is different too... instead of one long list that you scroll down it's divided into pages with 20 icons on each- you flip through these pages.
Verdict so far, an hour into use is I like it! All applications tested so far work well and the updated visuals and operation are all improvements, though doesn't seem revolutionary. Time will tell of course, but well done Google!

That's fantastic! Congrats on the upgrade! However, the Galaxy Nexus was released 2 days ago. I got mine from Costco yesterday. I'm very impressed with it in many, many aspects, but I have had some rather bothersome problems.

Oh BTW. Walmart sucks. If you are proud of shopping at Walmart and crap stores like Target, Costco etc etc, do your neighbors a favor. Walk next door and shoot them, just put them out of their misery. That's basically what you are doing when you shop at gigantic, greedy capitalist/corporatist/right-wing "big box" stores that treat their employees like shit and ruin the local economy (& environment) that YOU are supposed to be supporting and nurturing.

"i dont know where you were on the east coast but when i lived in brooklyn, walmart was trying to get in and the community came out everytime to protest."

I used to live in PA. It was chain stores and outlets for hundreds of miles to Pittsburgh, to Philly, to Baltimore, to New Jersey. I remember my parents loved it. They used to take me to SAMs, one of those Costco-esque places and the immense size of those places used to almost give me a panic attack, as I would repeat in my head "this is what is wrong with world". Even creepier when they pretty much got rid of cashiers. I mean even if I had enough money to buy shitloads of stuff - I wouldn't even have enough space to put away the sort of things you could buy at a place like that. I've only room for like 4 boxes of cereal of hopefully different varieties.

Here in the states one can find cases of mexican coke at Costco in the glass bottles (at least in Washington state). I don't know if Canadian costcos have this. I also see it at a lot of the mexican taco trucks. It's my favorite... tastes like how I remember coke tasting as a kid. It is sweeter but more clean and less syrupy tasting.

I want to try Coke made with sugar. They still make it that way in Mexico, I hear.

Driving shenanigans in Taiwan

actually, in Taiwan "good" driving is when you can go fast, so this guy isn't a very good driver.

he should have pointed out how left turns are made - there is a square at every major intersection that is made for scooters/bikes (you see it at 0:25 when he's talking about power rangers). To make a left, you would go straight and then pull into that square, and wait for the next light to change and go straight again.
It's counter-intuitive, but works really well in practice. That's only for scooters/motorcycles though. Cars just have to deal with making a regular left.

oh, and if you want to see the craziest display of multiple people + stuff on scooters, check out the Costco in Taipei right before Chinese New Years.

That's why I suggested you buy from Costco. They have free, friendly, and fast phone support no matter what brand you buy.

I just recommended Toshiba because I've had 4 different laptops (Dell, Sony, old Toshiba that I dropped, new Toshiba that kicks ass) and the Toshibas are the only ones I've not had any problems with (aside from gravity and the kitchen floor).
