Hmmm... I'd never thought about this scene in that way, plastiquemonkey, but I really appreciate your offering a different perspective. I laughed at this scene, but certainly not at the woman's accent. That's not what the scene means to me. What it, and really the whole movie is about, at least in large part, is how uncomfortable and lonely the main characters are- truly strangers in a strange land. I think it is a universally applicable theme and story. Think of transposing the Bill Murray character into a Japanese or Italian star visiting say, Toronto, and a prostitute interrupting their repose with a slapstick seduction and broken language. Just as funny.

i hate this movie! especially this scene...
so lame. and mean.
i feel so sorry for the poor, lonely americans, stuck in an expensive hotel in tokyo. meanwhile, everyone laughs at the japanese woman's accent, speaking english in her home country. i'd like to hear bill murray speak nihongo sometime...

Thank you Plastique!
It's good to see The Story Of One get another chance to escape the queue (especially as I've had the longest drought of published Sifts in my 2+ months of submitting!)

thanks benjee, you saved me the trouble...
Thanks!
Yeah, I have to sift more now - gonna hit 3000 in the little vote total thingie soon - but votes aren't what matter, it's sharing and exploring the Sift Goodness.

congratulations!! now you can be busy on videosift again...
Yeah - sorry again Plastique! I'm having problems with my ISP and was Sift surfing via a web proxy (which I've found screws the video links). Ignore my last comment...only text on the Sift for me until I can sort it out.
no, it still works for me: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6097787318198018019&sourceid=docidfeed&hl=en-CA
Sorry Plastique, but the Google video link seems to be dead too! (link goes to front page)
that's actually a different kim peek video. so i replaced it with the googlevideo version.
Hmm..nice re-design Plastique.
Mooseman's found your kim peek (the inspiration for rain man) remembers EVERYTHING Sift is dead - I was going to mark it RIP, but he's also found a link to replace it with.
Please replace your Colbert swallows a banana post with:
