"One Minute Racist" -- short and sweet little movie

Nithern says...

imstellar28,

Your incorrect on your idea of steroetypes being only cultural. Yes, if one says "those black people are stupid as boards and live in the ghetto cus their not smart to get out." is racists. Saying "those black people stay in that neighborhood cus they aren't bashed as they would be in the white neighborhood" is STILL, a recists comment.

For a while after September 11, 2001 (aka 9/11), people associated arabs with terrorists. In fact, those who wore a turbin were considered terrorists as well. In fact, anyone that wasn't from Europe (germanic looking), Asia (japanesse/chinesse looking) or black (from africa) were considered terrorists. Racisms often ignores facts. Part of the Middle East, is in Europe, Africa and Asia. But dont tell that to racists at the time, as would view you as a terrorist sympathizer, and hence, un-American. After 9/11, there was (and still is) a movement that says unless your pro-American (read: conservative republican), your un-Americans (like liberals, moderates and liberals).

An so, there were numerous attacks on Arab-Americans who were born in the USA, went to public schools in the USA, and love their home country of America. Racists are not often the educated sort who think on their victims. If they did, they wouldn't be racists, they'd be socialpaths, who are even worst.

While we all discriminated on things, the concept of 'discrimination' as it applies to race, takes on a different meaning. To be an American, is to accept, that those who's skin, height, weight, hair, eyes, and even gender are different from yours, they are the same as you. Those who's religion, creed, and education are different from yours, is the same as you. Its the 'Melting Pot' effect that makes Americans a very diverise lot.

Its not to say we have removed racisms. American still has it in boat loads. The things that seem to stem the tide of racism, is education. The more educated a person is, the more often they are around those who's difference also make them the same.

Torture- Never Say Never? (Philosophy Talk Post)

deedub81 says...

^We have to discuss this hypothetically because we don't have a ticking time bomb scenario. This is all hypothetical.

How about this:

Your family has been kidnapped and the police say that they have a kidnapper in custody. They are 100% sure this guy is a kidnapper. He has a history of kidnapping and he lived next door to you, but they aren't sure if this is the actual perpetrator. You've received a ransom note that the real kidnapper (whoever he is) has your family hidden somewhere and they've been without food or water for 2 days. Would you torture him to find out where your family is?

Your family (country/nation) has been kidnapped (is under attack) and the police say that they have a kidnapper(known terrorist) in custody. They are 100% sure this guy is a kidnapper (Al Qaeda opperative). He has a history of kidnapping(terrorism) and he lived next door to you (in a terrorist cell), but they aren't sure if this is the actual perpetrator (they are only 98% sure that he knows details). You've received a ransom note that the real kidnapper (terrorist cell) has your family hidden somewhere (is planning an attack against the US) and they've been without food or water for 2 days (it's going to take place sometime this week).

Auto-Tune the News 3 (Feat.. Ron Paul)

Lyrics:

EH: I think this is an ignoramus statement
Umm, I was even a person who thought
You know what, power to Joe the Plumber at that point
SG: Before he went around laying his pipe all over town
EH: Well, Joe the Plumber is not invited
Anywhere around me
EG: Does baby need a tissue?
Thinking about the time the plumber kissed you
Before you caught him creeping with the shitzu
RM: As republicans, the party does seem to be in chaos
RP: They need to change their attitude, attitude
Their attitude, attitude
MG: Ay, tells us what your homeys can do
To make a change
RP: You know, they talk about personal freedoms
They have to believe in it, you know
MG/RM: We know!
RP: To believe in it, you know
MG/RM: We know!
RP: To believe in it, you know
MG/RM: We know, we know, we know you just got to believe
RP: To believe in it, you know
MG/RM: We know!
RP: To believe in it, you know
MG/RM: We know!
RP: To belieeeeeeeeeve! Lieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeve!
MG: You saying Republicans on crack
Are you cozy with the Democrats?
RP: I just don't think that either party
Right now offers a whole lot
MG: You'll see some real change
From the 3rd party at my house
Poppin champagne, bacardi; gettin crunked out
Triple rhymin with Joe Biden
While we Imbibin Hennessy
Come on over--drinks on me, homey
HK: We'll be friends with you
AZ: And bff with you
Main Damies with you
HK: And colleagues with you
AZ: I'll be in your crew
HK: I'll be in yours, too
AZ: Jumpin rope with you
HK: Playin Donkey Kong with you
AZ: Hatchin plans with you
HK/AZ: invade Tajikistan with you
HC: We do not believe either Afghanistan or Pakistan
Can achieve lasting progress
Without the full participation of all of your citizens
Including women and girls
AZ: Having a barbecue
HK: Grilling a goat with you
AZ: Grilling terrorists, too
HK: Getting matching tattoos
HC: The rights of women must be respected and protect--
AZ: --Picking flowers with you
HK: Hot showers with you
AZ: Falling in love with you
HK: Nude at the zoo
AZ/HK: Making memories at the pottery wheel, rubbing clay on you all afternoon
KC: It would be one of the most dramatic
Foreign policy about faces ever
AG: To what do you refer, shawtayee?
KC: A bipartisan bill in Congress would end
The 47-year-old trade freeze with Cuba
AG: Ojalá congreso le gusta esta
KC: It has only spotty support so far
But President Obama's already taken some baby steps
Letting Cuban Americans visit family members
And send them money
But for most of us it's still a place that is
Strictly off limits
AG: Not for this G
I just went there illegally
Speaking of which, will you buy drugs from me
On national TV?
Don't fret--the people think I'm joking
But guess what (what?)?
I've never joked in my life; ooh-wee, shawtayee
KC: The trade embargo made sense a half century ago
AG: That's 50 years
KC: During the Cold War
Fidel Castro took sides with the enemy
But the Soviet Union is long gone
AG: Disbanded:
KC/AG: Long gooooone!
SG: Dick Cheney. Rush Limbaugh or Colin Powell. Who's your damie?
DC: Well, if I had to choose, uh
In terms of being a Republican I'd go with Rush Limbaugh
My take on it was Colin had already left the party
SG: I don't think that actually happened
[awkward silence]
This is an awkward silence;
I guess I'll fill it with ad libs
Oh! Shawty! Yeah
EG: Whoo! Aaaah
KC: Now it's up to Fidel and Raúl Castro
AG: Esos Castros locos. Cuidado
KC: President Obama says he wants to see Democratic reforms
Particularly on human rights and free speech
So congress will be looking for signs of change
After almost 50 years
AG: Ay, that's half a century
KC: U.S. policy will not reverse overnight
Relations remain chilly
But for the 1st time in generations
A thaw is possible
AG: A thaw, but what sort of thaw?
What exactly is thawing?
KC: Very, very, very, very
Very thin ice
AG/KC: Very thin ice, very thin ice, very thin ice

Joe Scarborough: Torture Opponents are Inviting Attack

JiggaJonson says...

We have to earn the title "Civilized Nation" and it's what separates us from the 'bad guys.' The only way to earn it is by simply avoiding the disparaging idea that we're somehow better than you are because when we do something horrible it's OK,-but when you do it you're a terrorist.

President Obama, you're wrong about letting these bastards off the hook.

Joe Scarborough, get off my fucking videosift.

GI JOE THE MOVIE (Intro) (Cobra are the good-guys™ )

10898 says...

I don't know about Cobra being the real good guys, but the GI Joe response was pretty worrying. Instead of diffusing the bomb he attached it to the flying aircraft carrier ... which was floating over the city.

Counter-terrorist isn't supposed to mean you're a terrorist for the other side.

I liked it though

Obama overturns ban on abortion funding

BillOreilly says...

>> ^dannym3141:
>> ^Winstonfield_Pennypacker:
I don't care so much about the abortion side of this. I DO care that little Barry has now opened the spigot for his liberal-whacko lobbyist groups to funnel billions of US taxpayer dollars to foreign organizations during a time when every penny of tax money should be staying home to solve our own issues.
But there - what else can we expect. Obama is an idiot. There isn't a single thing he's doing that doesn't run absolutely 100% counter to common sense. Economic turmoil? Hey - nationalize the banks and spend money on overseas abortions. Big 3 car companies teetering on the edge or ruin? Hey - let's slap them with a bunch of new fuel standards they can't possibly meet and force them to retool all thier factories! National economy on the brink? Hey - let's cap and trade coal and raise EVERYBODY'S fuel bills! And if the economy collapses? Hey - it was Bush's fault! Ex-Guantanamo terrorists showing up in Al-Queda videos? Hey - let's close Guantanamo and 'not say' what we're going to do with them.
It has only been 1 week and Obama has done just about everything wrong it was possible to do wrong. Combine him with the certifiably insane Nancy Pelosi and the doormat Harry Ried and America is royally screwed.

I'll reply in order;
1. i dunno about your banking system, someone else take care of this one
2. So because america is suffering at the moment (as is everywhere else), obama should allow them to pollute and produce polluting machinery without regard for standards? That'll do wonders for the earth, how will your economic recession seem when we ruin the planet for the human race? You'll be cursing obama on your deathbed for not sorting out pollution when he had a chance. That's not even considering how other countries will say "typical america, not conforming, not caring about the rest of the world (and itself)"
3. Cap and trade coal? Dunno what you mean here, i'm english so i need better setups. Although capping fuel-mining will not seem like a stupid idea in 20 years time when it's potentially one of the most rare and prized commodities on the planet.
4. Everybody's fault except the people who ultimately have to suffer
5. Guantanamo was an illegal prison, might as well call yourself terrorists if you're gonna hold innocent people against their will for years of their precious lives.

1. Asking others on LiberalSift to answer a question, eh? Well said.

2. Our policies should be governed by what other countries think. Well said.

3. You're English? I'm sorry.

4. You're right, terrorists should never be made to feel any pain of any kind. Well said.

5. I agree, we should become a police state like your country, and let only the criminals and terrorists have guns. Oh wait, with Obama, we're already on our way there. Well said.

WAKE UP AMERICA! Israel is Killing Children With Your Tax $!

oohahh says...

Wow, talk about histrionic titles.... geesh.

Look, if you want any Western strategic interests located in the heart of the Middle East, this is how it's accomplished. If the US didn't pay this money, they'd have less influence over Israel and the region as a whole. The money buys the US a spot at the table. It also buys the US a military presence, a proxy military, a military jumping-off point, and thus political pressure in the area. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing is another discussion.

As to the current fiasco: it's war and it's not a new war. If this were the dark ages and the groups could fire weapons the distance of a football field or two, I'm sure the groups could live together. Given the small size of the country and the advancement of weaponry, it's far easier for for the Israelis to be harmed by state or non-state players.

Look at the current situation: Hamas in Gaza started firing rockets into Israel. Israel asked the world for help. No help came. Israel attempted to remove this enemy once and for all. The attacks wouldn't be a problem if we were in the pre-rocket days - catapult fire wouldn't travel far enough. Pity our advancement of "civilization", eh?

Is there a right or a wrong in this fight? Wow. That's a naive question. Both sides have a right to live in the area. What right? There are historic rights for both groups. Military rights, too, for the Israelis, since 1948 and reaffirmed in '67. Both groups also have political/lawful rights. The problem is that the groups can't seem to Just Get Along. That puts Israel in a pickle: they can't readily defend themselves from hostile fire from enemies, many of whom refuse to accept that Israel is a legitimate state. They can't get make those people move to other countries... not legally, anyway. That leaves them with their only legal option: defend themselves from attack.

The Palestinians this time are fighting against the war of attrition; being cut off. The Israelis are defending against the reprisal terrorist attacks. Enter the circle of violence.

Of course nobody wants the civilian deaths in Gaza; neither child nor adult. That said, if you choose to live in Gaza or the West Bank, there's no doubt you'll have terrorists (and I say "terrorist" instead of "freedom fighter" because Hamas, Hezbollah, and the PLO have have plenty of civilian blood on their hands) living with you. And if you have terrorists as neighbors, you'll have bullets as weather.

Congratulations, your moronic idol of a soon to be ex-president (and if there is any justice, a soon to be convict) has just given yet another reason for people to hate American's.

Does your country really need to piss anyone else off? Do ex-pats and American's abroad really need their government inciting people to hurt/kill/kidnap them?

Eight years to undo Bush's "damage"? We're still not over FDR, LBJ and Carter's.

You're defending injustice with injustice, do you not see how that is doomed to failure and a neverending spiral of the same shit?

You don't care that a few innocents get held imprisoned without legal course. Fuck em, they killed our people, a few innocent lives destroyed is acceptable loss.

So the government declares war on them, but they hide behind innocent peaceful people, knitting themselves deep into the grain. That's their shield, innocent people. And then, when you kill innocent people to get to them, they say, "Look what they did to your mother, will you let her die in vain?" And the children of those peaceful people grow up to become terrorists who bomb a large tower in the USA.

What a Wonderful World (Good Morning Vietnam)

NordlichReiter says...

Ive always wanted to say it.

So I think Ill type it instead.

When you kick down a door, of some citizen of a country that you are occupying, do you think before hand what their perspective is? Or even when you kick down the door of a citizen of the United States.

They think you are the terrorist, you are the big American in sand colored, forest colored, or khaki colored clothes who has come to rape, pillage, and plunder.

Remember that, and it may save your life.
