Neil Patrick Harris Confronts Jason Segel

bareboards2 says...

@Yogi Yeah. Jon Hamm of Mad Men is a great example. He slogged along for years, couldn't catch a break. Loads of people knew about his talent, but it just didn't happen.

Then... Mad Men. And now he is an "overnight" star.

That is one reason I get so very angry when I see a movie with bad acting in it. Really? All these undiscovered talents, and you cast your girl/boyfriend?

Yep. Luck. And timing. And talent. And preparation.

Kiesza - Hideaway

mxxcon says...

@Yogi, interesting. I never noticed the street names or ESB in the background the fact that taxi said "nyc" I always thought it was filmed somewhere in cali/LA because of the low architecture. Then again, I've never been to Greenpoint or Williamsburg.

How I Met Your Mother - Official Alternate Ending

VoodooV says...

The funny thing is that had they did this ending from the start. I would have thought something was missing. It's too perfect/happy. So I sorta understand why they did what they did originally. Still, like Yogi said, the show went on way too long. They never have the good sense to end it when it should and they keep dragging it out for money's sake for way too long until it sucks and we're sick of it.

Also what sucks is that we really don't get to know the mother much. Sure, getting to that point was great. but its still lackluster when they try to cram an entire relationship and a whole personality into one season.

Moving this video to Yogi's personal queue. It failed to receive enough votes to get sifted up to the front page within 2 days.

Evolution's shortcoming is Intelligent Design's Downfall

robbersdog49 says...

Just to be clear, the posts of yours in this thread which now just say [redacted] were removed by mods, not you?

If this is the case, WTF? The post quoted by Yogi and mentality seems perfectly reasonable. I might not agree with the content but it's written in a decent enough way. It's not just stupid insults.

Neil deGrasse Tyson on genetically modified food

RedSky says...

@Yogi

How can you prove a negative? Studies have consistently found no harm from commercially available GM foods. The one study to the contrary (Séralini, tumours in mice) was found to be fraudulent and retracted.

Even if the effects are not immediate, GM foods have been available since the mid 90s, you would expect after 20 years, for there to be a discernible harmful effect, if there is one.

@billpayer

One of the main benefits GM foods can provide is increased longevity and shelf, which help to reduce wastage.

GM yields in a Mediterranean climate for common western crops are not hugely improved. However, the benefits in harsh conditions to say drought and flood resistance are substantial.

This is particularly why it's so detrimental that the EU has rejected GM foods so universally. Domestic farmers may not see huge benefit, but African producers are forced to use substandard non-GM crops for both domestic and international markets.

This is because GM crops cannot be exported to the EU market and different crop types cannot be effectively segregated. This limits their yields, in turn raises prices in a region of the world with an unsustainable, rapidly growing population and increasingly harsh conditions from climate change driven desertification.

U.N: One child killed every hour in Gaza

Januari says...

I agree with your sentiment Yogi but the idea that the US and Israel are alone is just wrong.

The EU and the Arab states have been entirely complicit by omission. The US give the EU cover at the UN, and they are entirely happy to sit there and abstain again and again and again. Even the Palestinians don't trust the Arab nations surrounding them as they've been burned by that far to many times.

Its far to simplistic to act like this is a US/Israel issue, if you want to make an argument they are the 'most' complicit, you'd almost certainly be right. But NO one is holding Israel accountable and letting the cowards in Europe off the hook isn't right either.

Yogi said:

What's most interesting is how they were elected. The Palestinian people elected them in a free election (which UN observers verified). They elected them while being threatened by Israel and the US, they elected their own government with a gun to their head.

The US and Israel only support democracy when they approve the leaders to be elected. They threaten the populace and the leaders before they've even been elected and it's not idle threats either as the past 40 years have shown.

Israel and the United States stand alone against the rest of the world and the tiny population of the Palestinian territories.

Please do some more research, maybe starting with this.

Verizon Fios throttles Netflix - Net Neutrality

Januari says...

That really is the catch @Darkhand you absolutely nailed... We're VERY fortunate in Austin to have a small internet company called Grande... If your in Texas give them a look they are expanding and well worth your business... certainly before garbage companies like Verizon or ATT.

@Yogi Thats very discouraging to see how quickly they caved. Wasn't even aware it happened. I mean if Netflix can't even be bothered to fight WTF.

Democracy Now!: Why did NBC pull veteran reporter from Gaza?

Xaielao says...

Yes this doesn't look good for NPC. Pulling a veteran reporter because he tweeted something critical of the US government speaks to how the entire corporate media industry is, as Yogi stated, subservient to power. Keep kissing the asses of powerful politicians NBC, it helps to show just how fucked our 'free media' is here in the US.

NY Man Dies After Struggle With NYPD

ChaosEngine jokingly says...

FFS, don't bring sense or rationality into this!

@Yogi, unless you are saying those police officers deliberately set out to kill him, he's clearly not murdered. At worst, it's involuntary manslaughter.

Jerykk said:

These videos never show the alleged crime or lack thereof. The cops claim the suspect was selling cigarettes illegally, the narrator claims that he simply broke up a fight. If that's the case, why does the video not show either?

All the video shows is a man resisting arrest and having a heart attack in the process. One could argue that this wouldn't have happened if the cops didn't try to arrest him. One could also argue that it wouldn't have happened if he had simply cooperated. Because the video doesn't show what happened beforehand, we don't know if the arrest or resistance was justified. Context is everything and the removal of context makes it easier to push your own agenda.
