Texas man strips down to make a point about vaccination

newtboy says...

Yes, he's making his point quite well.
He's pointing out all the ways they follow the law and rules of civilization, even though they're sometimes inconvenient or uncomfortable, even though many laws are to protect others more than themselves. He's doing it in a way that no one ignores. He's exemplifying the selfish, outrageous behavior they are championing in such a way that they can't help but disagree with him, which MAY lead to them questioning their own actions and recognising they resemble that display he put on.

When did he call them names?

Mask mandates are in place, put there by responsible representatives. This meeting was to explain why to those too obstinate to understand why, not to let them choose.
They have been told hundreds of times by calm reasonable people, calmly and using data and statistics to explain why masks and vaccines are necessary, and the answer was "keep yer govment vaxine urtta mah blud and yer Fouchi facemask off me and mah chilin!"

Only enforcing it when it's absolutely necessary, only where it's absolutely necessary, and for as short a time as possible has led us to wave 4, the worst yet. It's necessary now until the virus is gone, it's necessary everywhere so the virus doesn't have a Petri dish to evolve in and become far more virulent and dangerous, it's necessary to continue wearing them and getting vaccinated/boostered until the virus is eradicated....maybe until civilization falls if we're unlucky or too stupid to follow directions.

I have no idea why this touches such a nerve for you. It seems so obviously proper to most of us, and an excellent way to show them that they already do tons of annoying stuff for other people's safety, like driving the speed limit and stopping at lights and wearing clothes, not starting random fires, etc....all stuff mandated by the government.

Explain please, why that's improper.

Wait....so you say we shouldn't have a discussion at all with anti maskers/antivaxers, because they'll spout some nonsense?!
Um.....no.
You don't convince people to do the right thing by ignoring them when they do the wrong things for the wrong reasons. WTF are you saying?! Don't have any discussions because extremists will take hold and you think reasonable people can do nothing. Only true if reasonable people stop trying to discuss and convince them of reality, which is your suggestion? Um......

So he is trying to be clever. But is he making his point well?

Its much like us trying to convince Bob and friends by calling them names, its not going to work.

Mask mandate is an emergency measure and should be put in place by responsible representatives, not public debate. It should be explained seriously and not by anecdote. It should only be enforced where necessary and for as long as necessary. Local authorities should have that authority, just like for other natural disasters.

If you start a discussion, extremists will take hold of it.

Straight from the Guardian's current article on the most recent shipwreck in the Med:

The deaths are likely to renew calls from campaigners for Europe to reinstate full-scale search-and-rescue operations in the Mediterranean. Last October, the EU opted not to replace the Italian-run Operation Mare Nostrum, which saved about 100,000 lives last year, amid fears that it was encouraging smugglers and migrants to organise more trips to Europe.

What they forgot to mention: Italy would have continued Mare Nostrum if the rest of this bloody EU had bothered to pitch in with a few bucks. The total bill was €114 million per year. Petty cash, by any measure.

The replacement, Frontex's Operation Triton, doesn't even have a mandate to save shipwrecked folks, just to keep them away from EU soil.

European values worthy of yet another Nobel Peace Price, I'd say...

Obama's secret plan for nuclear war with Russia

bobknight33 says...

The pot that @VoodooV stirs is only to puff his own ego.

Who was the heckler?

All Americans know that Obama has no spine so nuclear options. This is way off his list.

Worst yet the has drawn many "lines in the sand" and did nothing when the opposition went over them.

Obama is a paper tiger.

Good job.
Take all 16 trillion from the wealthiest and pay off the national debt. Smart, very smart.
Then what. Obama wants to add another 4 Trillion + over his 2nd term. Then what? Confiscate the the next set of top wealthy group?

Then after that you would be reaching down to the top 50%. Then you would have nothing left. At you rate we might be fine for another 15 years. Then what? There would be no wealth in America. Worst yet there would be no incentive.

Even if this was a 1 time deal it would be devastating to pull that much $ out of the economy.

I'm not saying that the rich could / should pay more but the country has a real spending problem on entitlements and military. We are going broke and the current ruling party wants to tax the rich another 3% and print more money and very very very little spending cuts.

Far be it if I vote against receiving $500 bucks/month from the government but it has to be done. All must suffer and all will suffer greatly if spending is not addressed in an honest straight forward way.

( Also we are not even mentioning the hundred of trillions of unfunded obligations.)

I used the 2012 budget (~$3.8T, look it up wherever), the most recent figures for total income and total taxes paid of the top 1% (which are from 2010) from the Tax Foundation, which are $1.52T and $350B, respectively, so I did a little rounding. So you can adjust my $1.2T to $1.15T, if you want.

The top 1% in wealth owned 34% of the US's total wealth, in 2007, according to Wikipedia citing a Forbes article citing this article which cites this paper by Edward Wolff of NYU. The 2010 numbers cited are 35%, but I rounded down to 30% to be safe. Then I just looked up the total US household wealth--which is harder to do than you might expect.

Wikipedia reports ~$54T for the total US household *and non-profit* wealth in 2009 (Graph), which gets its data from the Federal Reserve. If you go to p. 104 of the 2011 document, you can see that this went up to $60T. I don't know how much of that is non-profits and how much is households, so I looked at the Census data.

Unfortunately the most recent is from 2007, which is pre-crash but which gives the mean household wealth as $556k. There were about 110M households in 2007, so that gives us about $61T total--but this was pre-crash. So we can kinda compare with the Wikipedia chart and see that in 2007 the total household+nonprofit wealth was $66T. So let's just assume ~$5T is nonprofits, so households had around $50T in 2009 and maybe closer to $55T in 2011, give or take. 30% of $50T is $15T. I had made slightly higher estimates before to get my $16T (didn't see the 'nonprofit' thing there).

So all told, the data's from the census and the Fed, and I'm kinda rounding down everywhere I can. I did some extrapolating here and there because I can't find a consistent data set from any year after 2007, and it wouldn't be fair to your side of the argument to use 2007's numbers. If you can find better data or if there's something egregiously wrong, please correct me.

Lost Cop Shoots Puppy On Private Property In Oklahoma

solvent says...

I support the police officer. The media as usual tried to manipulate the public by labeling the dog as 'puppy' and showing the owner talking about the how important the dog was. It was clear the dog was running fast towards the officer. He perceived a danger to his life/risk of serious injury and used his firearm to protect himself (guidelines are similar for use of police firearms around the world). Plain and simply.

The idea of 'he could have gotten back to his car' is rubbish. How many times the owner or anybody else had to deal with a dog running full speed towards them? He could have easily pulled some bacon out of his back pocket and scratched the dog behind the ear... NO!!! It was a matter of about him or the dog.

I would love to see any of those so called 'animal lovers' to just sit with a police officer for a week and observe what they have to deal with, then show them the same video. Or worst yet: complete the police training to find out more about the guidelines to use their arms and appointments...

Re: 'trespassing cop'. You monkeys, how much do you about COMMON LAW. Anybody can walk up to your front door and knock with a legitimate inquiry. Until you tell them to get out there is nothing wrong with it.
