Minneapolis mayor calls for charges against police officer

newtboy says...

Yep, how did I miss that. Of course, it's the mayor who wants legal action and peace, not the lying murderous gang who are wrong.
You are nothing but an ignorant troll.

I won't insult your miniscule intelligence by pretending you believe the stupidity you just wrote....to paraphrase William F Buckley

Climate of Deception: Faux News and Climate Change

volumptuous says...

Winston, you're just plain stupid. Admit it.

Like William F. Buckley, who used his "intelligence" and gift of gab to make his horrendous positions seem almost sane (like involuntarily tattooing the ass of every AIDS victim on the planet) your words, no matter how many 10cent phrases you use, are utterly hollow.

Just like what this video is about, you try to change the subject, or just bore the shit out of other readers with how unbelievably verbose you are, so people just drop the debate/argument altogether. It's a cunning ploy, but seeing as you've now been on VS for three years now and HAVE YET to post a single fucking video, we all see that you're just here to spread your bullshit, as opposed to actually contributing anything of any value to the Sift community.

Ladies and gentlemen, may I present to you, the white Herman Cain (meaning, complete fucking idiot)

The Simpsons take on Ayn Rand & Right-Wingers

Memorare says...

Didn't the late William F. Buckley dismantle Rand's Objectivism in an article which explained why charity was actually one of the cornerstones of Conservatism?

Anyway I recently worked with a guy in his early 20's who was extremely intelligent and accomplished (attending San Fran Conservatory of Music) who was a rabid Ron Paul / von Mises / Ayn Rand disciple.

He could spout volumes of theory, philosophy and history to back up his arguments, but when it came to everyday common sense stuff he was ignorant, like he didn't know if a job paying $26,000/yr was considered a lot of money or not, or that the name of the tool you use to "turn things" was called a crescent wrench.

Turns out he was the son of a self-made millionaire, he would take jobs doing manual labor for a few months as kind of a lark, believing that he was experiencing 'real life' when in fact he was insulated from working class reality by daddy's millions.

Interesting guy, fascinating discussions, but ultimately he was living in fantasy land.

I really don't see how not watching a video, but then proceeding to spew your rhetoric is some sort of contribution to anything.

I also don't see how eloquence somehow is a contribution to anything. William F. Buckley was an eloquent individual. And when he spoke of tattooing every HIV patient with a warning sign, he did it with flare and eloquence.

Personally, I have much more respect for people who are giant assholes, but who also submit videos and actually watch the videos they respond to.

Douchey? probably. But there you go. I have the person on ignore, but that doesn't stop comments appearing on my screen when someone quotes and replies.

The Missing Story About Joe the Plumber (Election Talk Post)

NetRunner says...

>> ^blankfist:
You tire me out, NetRunner. I cannot imagine even trying to honor your ridiulous claims. Obama and McCain are terrible choices, so I refuse to argue that one should act one way or another because it's befitting of their party to gain a win. That's what you do. Not me.

>> ^blankfist:
Actually, rereading that comment it sounds harsh. When I say you tire me out, I don't mean I tire of our debates. I actually do enjoy debating you, NR. In fact, our PM debates have been some of the most fun I've had on here. You're a great debater and passionate about your party's politics. So, there. I said something nice. Don't tell anyone.

Schizophrenia gets you everywhere. A big Fuck You and a big kiss for you.

My evil plans to help protect voter's rights are too late: the Ohio SCOTUS just did that for me.

To try to pander to your lunatic 3rd party aspirations, I'll repeat some advice I've given previously: if another 3rd party or party outcast (like Paul or Kucinich) gets a money bomb like Paul did, they need to take that money and try to run a campaign that includes TV ads, on-the-ground organization, and a TV-media-interview strategy for having them legitimize you.

Part of why Democrats lost in 2000 and 2004 is because they were up against people who knew how to manipulate the media narrative to their benefit, and the Democrats didn't think that was something they either could or should do (I'm not sure which).

Times have changed. I think the Campaign for Liberty is a possible sign that Paul is realizing that too, I'll be sure if he starts working on getting a libertarian AM radio talk show running.

I also think 3rd parties should try to win some seats in the House, rather than taking futile cracks at the Presidency.

I guess the cynical lesson that's finally been driven into me through this process is that too few people care enough, or are educated enough to even have a glimpse of what policies might be beneficial or harmful -- they mostly go based on the beliefs reinforced by the media they consume.

I know you're a true believer in conservative/libertarian philosophy, but how many people out there voting for Republicans really know what that even is? Joe the PlumberTM sure as shit doesn't. I don't even think Caribou Barbie Sarah Palin does either, and if she does she probably learned it at an Alaska Independence Party meeting.

You guys need another William F. Buckley, who's smart, and charming, and entertaining, who gets on TV and puts the right face on your philosophy. Until that happens, 3rd parties are just going to be a curiosity.

I'm cautiously optimistic that the Republican party as we've known it is about to get shattered. Lots of people are going to be looking at how to reassemble it for 2012. Now might be a good time to get organized to be ready, and get that party back to its roots. I hope Ron Paul wins, but if I had to guess right now we'll be seeing the Mike Huckabee party rise in 2012, and that won't bear any resemblance to a paleo-conservative party at all.

FOX Reporter's Attempt to Ambush Bill Moyers Backfires

Liberals dominate the media....this has been announced by Rush Limbaugh. And Thomas Sowell. And Ann Coulter. And Rich Lowry. And Bill O'Reilly. And William Safire. And Robert Novak. And William F. Buckley, Jr. And George Will.

BLAH BLAH BLAH. If you read any of them instead of picking through the recyclables of colbert and maher, you'd know the difference. Most Americans still get their news from the teevee, and despite FOX most of the ratings are still with the "everyone else." A shame and a sham, how else could the Obamessiah get this far saying nothing?

The net and new media are newer than the manure from the 60s through early 90s. Give it more time, then you'll really have something to fume about.

William Buckley Calls Gore Vidal a Queer

Tofumar says...

Here are just 4 of my favorite William F. Buckley Quotes:

"Franco is a part, and an integral part, of Western civilization... [the] convergence of the multifarious political philosophical, religious, and cultural tendencies that have shaped Spanish history... the man to whom the Spanish people look--as the Chinese have looked to Chiang [Kaishek], for all his faults--for leadership."--William F. Buckley, National Review, March 9, 1957

"General Franco is an authentic national hero... [with the] talents, the perseverance, and the sense of the righteousness of his cause, that were required to wrest Spain from the hands of the visionaries, ideologues, Marxists, and nihilists that were imposing... a regime so grotesque as to do violence to the Spanish soul, to deny, even, Spain's historical destiny. He saved the day.... The need was imperative... for a national policy [to]... make this concession to Churchill this morning, that one to Hitler this afternoon.... Franco reigns... supreme. He is not an oppressive dictator.... only as oppressive as is necessary to maintain total power..."--William F. Buckley, National Review, October 26, 1957

"The central question that emerges... is whether the White community in the South is entitled to take such measures as are necessary to prevail, politically and culturally, in areas where it does not predominate numerically? The sobering answer is Yes--the White community is so entitled because, for the time being, it is the advanced race." --William F. Buckley, National Review, August 24, 1957

"He was a prophet...McCarthy's record is... not only much better than his critics allege, but, given his metier, extremely good...he should not be remembered as the man who didn't produce 57 Communist Party cards but as the man who brought public pressure to bear on the State Department to revise its practices and to eliminate from responsible positions flagrant security risks"--William F. Buckley in his book McCarthy and his Enemies

And of course he's wrong, we're all just stupid and evil.

But seriously, i watched the whole thing and mostly was just plain disappointed by the shallowness and simplistic-ness (if that's a word) of his intellectual positions and arguments. I mean, he wouldn't last even 5 minutes against a junior high debate team. In contrast, i used to love to listen to William F. Buckley even though i didn't agree with him, because he made intellectually challenging and compelling arguments.

Bohemian Grove

sfjocko says...

frm http://www.sonomacountyfreepress.com/bohos/bohofact.html
Conspiracies abound regarding this elite woodlands club. The clip is obviously of the hardcore conspiracy version, and the (long) snip below seems a more likely or reasonable description.

"What is the Bohemian Grove? The Bohemian Grove is a 2700 acre redwood forest, located in Monte Rio, CA. It contains accommodation for 2000 people to "camp" in luxury. It is owned by the Bohemian Club.

What is the Bohemian Club? The Bohemian Club is a private. all male club, which is headquartered in the Bohemian building in San Francisco. It was formed in 1872 by men who sought shelter from the frontier culture (or lack of culture).

Who are the present members? The Club has evolved into an association of rich and powerful men, mostly of this country (there are similar organizations in other countries). Some artists are allowed to join (often at reduced rates), because of their social status and entertainment value. The membership list has included every Republican U.S. president (as well as some Democrats) since 1923, many cabinet officials, and director; & CEO's of large corporations, including major financial institutions.

What industries are represented among the members? Major military contractors, oil companies, banks (including the Federal Reserve), utilities (including nuclear power), and national media (broadcast and print) have high-ranking officials as club members or guests. Many members are, or have been, on the board of directors of several of these corporations. You should note that most of the above industries depend heavily on a relationship with government for their profitability.

The members stay in different camps at the Grove, which have varying status levels. Members & frequent guests of the most prestigious camp (Mandalay) include: Henry Kissinger, George Shultz, S. D. Bechtel, Jr., Thomas Watson Jr. (IBM), Phillip Hawley (B of A), William Casey (CIA). and Ralph Bailey (Dupont). George Bush resides in a less prestigious camp (Hillbillies) with A. W. Clausen (World Bank), Walter Cronkite, and William F. Buckley.

What activities take place at the grove? The grove is the site of a two week retreat every July (as well as other smaller get-togethers throughout the year). At these retreats, the members commune with nature in a truly original way. They drink heavily from morning through the night, bask in their freedom to urinate on the redwoods, and perform pagan rituals (including the "Cremation of Care", in which the members wearing red-hooded robes, cremate a coffin effigy of "Dull Care" at the base of a 40 foot owl altar). Some (20%) engage in homosexual activity (but few of them support gay rights or AIDS research). They watch (and participate in) plays and comedy shows in which women are portrayed by male actors. Although women are not allowed in the Grove, members often leave at night to enjoy the company of the many prostitutes who come from around the world for this event. Is any of this hard to believe? Employees of the Grove have said that no verbal description can accurately portray the bizarre behavior of the Grove's inhabitants.

Besides this type of merriment. the annual gathering serves as an informational clearing house for the elite. The most powerful men in the country do their "networking" here, despite the Grove's motto "weaving spiders come not here" (don't do business in the Grove). At these gatherings men representing the government, military-industrial, and financial sectors meet and make major policy decisions. The Manhattan project, which produced the first atomic bombs, was conceived at the Grove in 1942. Other decisions made at the Grove include who our presidential candidates will be. There are speeches, known as "Lakeside Talks", wherein high-ranking officials disseminate information which is not available to the public-at-large. "
