Titanfall Gameplay video @ 1440p
Pretty much my thoughts.
My guess is, the proprietary dedicated server they have is what's limiting the player count. That or the consoles themselves. I can't imagine ex-Infinity Ward developers would have included AI bots by design. They would have had to increase Titan cooldown to compensate with more players but that would have been an improvement in itself, as after the first few minutes, if you're any good you spend most of your time in one and the game plays like Mechwarrior. Not that that's bad, but it should be a novelty, not the norm for what is still an FPS.
Very disappointed by forced match-making as well. Now that both EA and Activision are doing it, I would hate it to become the standard even on PC. Odds are I will be playing CSS/TF2 for another 10 years it seems. Although even Valve is nudging us towards it now in TF2.
That and the huge inter-game downtime. Again, if TF2 can let you change loadouts mid-game and allow you to vote on the next map while you're in the previous one, I don't see why a game released nearly 7 years later struggles with this.
The beta featured only a selection of weapons, titans and maps. Those weren't actually three different titans, that was just the three default loadouts for one titan, the Atlas. And, there were custom loadouts even in the beta, with 5 customization slots and 3 mods for all of the primary weapons, you just had to reach a certain rank to unlock customization.

But, I was disappointed too, but mainly because it was a maximum of 12-player games, small maps, no server browser, no keyboard chat and no single-player. Honestly it gives the impression they designed it to be peer-to-peer multiplayer, then late in development switched it to dedicated servers, without actually leveraging any of the advantages of having dedicated servers.
The Bolted Behemoth [SFM]
That reminds me, I wonder when End of the Line is going to come out? I know Valve has decided to make End of the Line an official community update to TF2, so that has delayed that one a bit. Still amazing the quality people are making with SFM.
How Charlie Sheen Discovered Global Warming
In this clip, he talks as much as Gordon Freeman.
He does look the part too...
Valve should use this as a promo for SteamBoxen!
I know Hollywood ruined that Super Mario Bros. film from the 80's, but no one ever told me about this terrible Half-Life film!
MORE BLIZZARD: HEROES OF THE STORM Trailer
It's funny how bored people are by a Blizzard game. Then Valve basically puts out a Blizzard game re-hashed (technically it wasn't a Blizzard game but it was based off their engine & feel) and it becomes one of the best games of the year. Go figure.
But, maybe I am being too optimistic for old Blizz? tThey really still haven't proven themselves after the launch of Diablo 3 - what have they done? Released two really good expansion packs and put out a Magic the Gathering game. All of which are really good. I honestly think Diablo 3 was a fluke - I'm not sure how they let that beast out. Probably because they got so sick and tired of re-making it to be any good.
They do still release awesome games - I think it comes down to they have done nothing mindblowing. I had a conversation with a co-worker not too long ago about how Valve is release a fucking OS and what has Blizzard done comparatively with it's trillions of dollars? I think that is what pisses people off.
Batman: Arkham Origins TV Spot
ok, this game gets a lot of love from me for several reasons.
1. Batman! (yes, I am one of those annoying batman fanbois... don't care)
2. Arkham games have been seriously high quality games. Steam tells me I have spent literally hundreds of hours on the previous two and I don't expect this will be any different.
3. See that last screen? 25th october. worldwide. No bullshit arbitrary delay between the US and the rest of the world.
And also, here's the price on the US steam store and here's the price on the Australia / NZ store. They're the same... as it fucking should be. normally non-valve games are US$20-30 more expensive in the same currency
So yeah, this gets a big ol' *quality from me.
Looking forward to striking some terror....
Ocean ship cancels out waves by creating interior waves
A quick search tells me that this is a model of a hotel ship, intended to be moored next to offshore platforms as a replacement for semi-submersible vessels. Stability is a requirement to ensure the safety of the connection between the platform and the ship itself.
Apparently, those waves are generated inside U-shaped compartments (side-bottom-side) within the hull of the ship, with air valves on top as a regulator for the motion of the water.
I wonder how much weight you have to transfer around to counteract the pitch and roll, how much energy it takes to initiate and maintain/control the interior waves and if malfunctioning valves could actually destabilize the ship.
Kevin Spacey Talks About the Future of Television
It is a source of constant mystery to me how badly mismanaged the whole "Big content" industry is.
Even Kevins saintly benefactor Netflix, is still region locked.
Can we agree right now that if you are using the term "region" with regard to the internet, you are doing internet wrong? Even my beloved Valve get this wrong (although in their defence, that decision is made by the 3rd party publishers).
I have money. I like stories. I will give you money for your stories.
Stop putting obstacles in my way.

Point your fingertips down or you'll damage the valves!
Other than that, very beautiful.
The Gravity Gun
and fan-made keeps holding the bar pretty high waiting for Valve to devote some resources to a real movie.
I have no idea who made this...but thank you.
The beauty of steam...
I know it's just a machine. I know it's just valves letting out pressure. I know it's not alive or anything. But I also know it's got a soul. Old steam trains are fantastic things.
Microsoft's response to the PS4 not having DRM
Its not really consoles fault that PCs are harder to develop for and suffer much higher piracy rates. It frustrates me when a console port is lazy on the fairly basic shit, like graphics, control and hud options but I don't really hate on developers for focusing their huge investment on the platform that'll give them the most return either. Some might see games like Skyrim as compromising their PC heritage for the console market, but I think you could also argue that the console market allowed a PC game to be mucher larger in scope than it would have been otherwise.
Personally I think PC gaming is in a pretty good place. My hope is that it won't be long before you can easily hook up the TV in your living room to the PC sitting in your study or bedroom or w/e and the PC can really compete against consoles on their territory. Valve has clearly set their sights on it, I think Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo should be worried.
I'm no console snob. I hate all consoles equally. They ruined PC gaming, afaic, even though the PC is a superior gaming platform. I've been cursing consoles since the Halo fiasco, when the game was made an XBox exclusive, destroying what was shaping up to be an incredible PC game. The console version and very-delayed PC port were just crap. Since then, most AAA PC game developers have been tripping over each other for a piece of the huge console market. Cross-platform development has taken it's toll on the PC versions of games, as games are designed for the lowest common denominator (consoles). The controls suck, the interfaces suck, the endless QTEs suck, the hand-holding sucks, the cover systems suck, the hide-and-wait healing sucks, the graphics suck, and most important of all, the gameplay sucks.
Thank FSM for indie developers who make PC games.
Half-Life: Counting to 3 (episode 2's ending spoilers).
Amen, brother. Honestly, if Valve isn't bothered making another game and the squillions of dollars it would generate, that's cool, but at least release a book or a movie or some goddamned thing to give the story closure!
Tremendous acting, I really believed she just watched her father die a terrible death.
Half-Life is my favorite series of games, even surpassed Metal Gear Solid in the past few years based on Portal and it's addition to the universe. Valve is amazing, please Valve do more amazing things and make Half-Life 3 PLEASE, you're honestly killing me here.

Some aliens are truly TERRIBLE at appealing to real human beings in a commercial fashion. It's like THEY LIVE 88' but you don't even need the glasses to see the nonsense they're trying to shovel.
