Ancient cat video

StukaFox says...

The expression on that cat's face at the end is like "Who the hell are you people? Are you from the future? You are! Tell me, oh temporal traveler, how fares a century of unbroken peace and human cooperation and kindness. . . ?
Really?
Shit, thank Christ I die in 1913!"

Star Wars Battlefront - Luke is Unstoppable... Wait...

artician says...

How'd this not get more votes, this was awesome.

Might be the music and the sound of that blaster, but star wars audio makes me skin crawl like I've been trapped in a cell and forced to listen to John Williams unbroken for years.

Awesome one-take fight scene from Daredevil

Sarzy says...

I'm assuming they threw in a few moments where they could place invisible edits for safety, in case they needed to, but tried their best (and succeeded?) to do it in one unbroken take.

(and thanks for the quality!)

ChaosEngine said:

As for the scene itself, it's very cool. My only question is that if it really is one take (and I'm not saying it isn't), it seems like an odd choice to have so many points (0:38, 1:38, 2:18) that feel like they're there for the express purpose of an invisible cut.

Prototype Helicopter Crash after Catastrophic Failure

internal footage of a ship bending

A10anis says...

Whilst on the QE2 we were told that deck 3 - I think - was the longest, unbroken, deck of any cruise liner. And, yes, in heavy seas you could see the ship bending. Well, after all, the tree must bend in the wind, If it doesn't, it snaps.

Important Information about the Energy Saving Light Bulbs

EndAll says...

>> ^NetRunner:
OMFG, what a tool this guy is.
MG, you made his point for him in far better, and far shorter way.
The representative from Texas just sounds like a luddite grandstanding, or a shill for energy companies, trying to make it sound like making an effort to conserve energy is downright dangerous.
Had he been less of a demagogue, he might get people to agree with him on the merit of his argument (which ultimately is a good one), without trying to use fear.

No, he's not trying to make it sound like the conservation of energy is a dangerous thing; rather the lack of infrastructure surrounding the safe disposal and recycling of these lightbulbs, the lack of knowledge surrounding the (valid) dangers of these lightbulbs (broken or unbroken), and the willingness of congress to pass these laws without thorough examination of what the law will implicate.

Cardboard Tube Fighting League in Philadelphia

silvercord says...

The rules:

1) Don’t break your tube. In a duel, the last person with an unbroken tube is the winner. In the event that both participants break their tubes at the same time, both duelists are considered losers. A tube is considered broken when it is held horizontal and the tip drops to an angle greater than 45 degrees or it is completely detached from the rest of the tube.

2) No swinging arms. No body slamming.

3) No stabbing. Lunges involving tubes are not allowed under any circumstances. Participants who exhibit this behavior will be ejected from the event.

4) Do not attack the opponent’s face. Hitting the face is heavily frowned upon and can force ejection from the event.

5) Once a tube is broken, fighting must cease.

6) Only official CTFL tubes are allowed. These tubes are provided at the events.

7) No blocking of opponent’s tube other than with your own tube.

8 ) Tubes must always be held near the end. Participants may switch ends as they see fit. Holding tubes in the middle is illegal.

9) Shields are banned in tournaments and battles.

10) All participants must sign a waiver.

Election Night Special (Election Talk Post)

NetRunner says...

Clinton speaking now. Is it me, or does Bill look particularly red in the face?

She's starting with "we've come from behind, we've broken the tide."

There have only been 3 polls for this primary out of dozens that ever showed Obama ahead, and those were all within the margin of error.

At least she's not declaring victory.

She is of course, continuing on what is a completely unbroken trend of not congratulating Obama for his wins.

Richard Dawkins The Salamander's Tale

BicycleRepairMan says...

First of all, Lalla ward is only reading it, the text is written by Richard Dawkins, so aim your accusations at him.. Secondly what "scientific misunderstanding"? Clearly Dawkins knows as well as anyone that there is a difference between chimps and humans, scientifically speaking, what makes us "different species" is that we cant interbreed. There are ofcourse also many other obvious differences, and there is no problem putting us into different categories. His argument is that since we are actually connected in a unbroken line of breeders, separated only by time, not geography, it makes interesting food for thought.

Imagine if it was like the herring gulls, with chimps and humans living side by side in england, and as you went east, "humans" became more and more chimp-like and the chimps got more and more human-like in the westword direction, where would you draw the line?

Its easier when all the intermediates are dead, that was Dawkins' point.

By the way: Chimps arent our ancestors, we share ancestors, so to get to the chimp from human you would first have to go back to our shared ancestor, and then forward again to the chimp..

Amazing Airplane Crash - Prevented!

deathcow says...

I think I would have spent another 5 seconds evaluating the glidability of the plane and looked around for suitable landing site before popping my $xx,xxx parachute. What a sense of relief though that BRS chute provides. Just 1 minute earlier this guy is flying effortlessly through beautiful skies, and then we're looking at green grass through the unbroken windshield. I know I would have got out of that plane and jumped for joy at standing on that green grass. I have been in a couple "easily could have been fatal" accidents and the sense of relief afterwards, standing away from the vehicle and looking at it all, is summarized in those green blades of grass seen through that windshield.

How Chimp Chromosome #13 Proves Evolution

BicycleRepairMan says...

It's obvious in lots of real life examples that species change, but this (or any other "evidence") does not prove that one species became another.

Typical ID "argument" that misunderstands the concept of evolution, try this for size: There are no species. just wipe words lik human, ape, monkey, fish, tree, horse, dog, cat and fox out of your mental image of the world for a moment.

All of the above are just "Life", pure and simple, a "species" is just another "variation of life" it is simply how we humans, for simplicity, classify animal variety. The rule is that if two animals cant produce an offspring, or if the offspring itself is unable to reproduce (such as mules) the animals are a different "species", for example, you could probably not mate with your ancestor 3 million years ago (even if you had a time machine) because the difference would be to great, yet, there is an unbroken line of relatives from this ancestor to you, but the whole thing about evolution is that it flows gradually shaping a different species, at no particular point is the mother a different species than her offspring, no more than you are a different species from your mother, but in a sense, that small change (from parent to child) is the largest kind of change that happens in one step on the road from "one species to another"

A good example of this is a so-called ring-species(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring_species) This is a known phenomena, where animals are separated not by time, but geography to from a complete transition from one species to another, one good example is the Ensatina Salamander, that migrated up a valley and around a mountain, and when they finally closed the ring, they could no longer interbreed, thus defined as "different species", yet, if you went back down the valley, there was an unbroken line of relatives.

There really is no such thing as "macro" and "micro" evolution, its all the same thing, its just that one takes longer than the other.

The Bhopal Chemical Disaster: 20 Years Without Justice

choggie says...

What's worse? Emissions from tail pipes which amount to squat compared to the earth's own fart gasses, or a scar of poison left on the surface as here, Chernobyl, 3-mile island, Area 51, etc. And the media, her whores and agenda creators, want you to believe, that the worst thing happening to the planet, is our corporate contribution to pollution-This planet will shake our stupid asses off her back like an unbroken mustang, probably right as we begin to remove our collective head from asses......Then there's, thank heaven, good ol' Mr. Solar Cycle and the inevitability of that dance......What'll it be kids?? Freeze of burn alive??
