Probably the most moving, beautiful PSA I've ever seen

Now all we have to do is get people to cruise in the right lane, pass in the left, use turn signals, quit texting, maintain your car, inflate your tires etc.

--Lets get people out of situations where they need seatbelts!!

Stupid bitch. I hope she fucking goes to prison for a very fucking long time. What a piece of fucking shit. She just drives off in her husband/boyfriend's BMW after causing thousands of dollars of damage with it. This really makes me fucking angry. GET OFF THE ROAD, BITCH! >:[

First off, angry person, NOBODY KNOWS IF THIS WAS A WOMAN SO CHILL THE FUCK OUT WITH THE (at the very least premature) MISOGYNY. Second point- I suggest redirecting your considerable rage towards the obvious guilty parties- all BMW drivers who are in general inconsiderate and dangerous, and who universally are unable to figure out how to use their teutonic turn-signals. Third, and finally, this took place in Thornhill Canada at the local Extreme Fitness gym. I know for a fact that our very own Krupo was visiting there this past weekend. He also refuses to deny whether he raped and killed a young girl in the '90s.

Irony detection fail.

It's not misogyny if it's a fact that women are worse drivers. Common, we all know it.

And Data for All: Why Obama's Geeky New CIO Wants to Put All Gov't Info Online (Blog Entry by poolcleaner)

^lets start by trying it in your home, first.

we could catch you smoking weed, having sex in illegal positions (doggystyle, girl on top), looking at porn, downloading copyrighted music and movies, improperly preparing food for dinner, not washing your hands after using the bathroom, going three weeks without doing laundry, etc.

or we could install it on a telephone pole outside your house so we could catch you failing to use a turn signal when entering your driveway, cheating on your significant other, transporting weed or other illegal items, getting into your car drunk to drive to the store, stealing cable from the box outside, failing to maintain your yard for the homeowners association, etc.

People who don't use their turn signals. Shoes placed right on the left and left on the right. Not having a light. Looking for a tool or tape measure. Inconsiderance.

Is he going to turn left? No! Oh Sh.... BANG!

Majortomyorke says...

This situation is an annual occurrence where I work, however the problem is often due to a trucker making a wide turn from the left lane, across the right lane without a turn signal on.

I've always said there should be two brake light configs:
1) always on for speeds above 30 mph
2) fast blinking for speeds below 30 mph

I've had similar thoughts, only I figured it would be more valuable if they flashed when rapidly decelerating instead of based on their speed. Cars are all equipped with accelerometers for the airbag system anyway. It can sometimes be difficult to tell if the car up ahead is lightly breaking or if they're coming to a screeching halt, especially at night.
Perhaps one day all cars will be equipped with those 'sonar' type systems that allow them to match the speed of the car in front of them when using cruise control. I see no reason why the same system couldn't warn you of pending impact when the cruise control is off.

Of course this is why seasoned drivers (I picked this up in Europe but have seen it in North America), kick in their four-way hazard lights when braking hard in heavy traffic.

Especially useful if you have yellow tail turn signal lights rather than the cheap "all-red" rear which I simply despise.

There was this one crash - just this spring - when I was driving family from Europe down to Niagara Falls and there was a sudden highway slowdown.

I was keeping a safe distance, but had to break pretty hard. I kicked on the 4-ways while I was at it. Car behind me noticed and slowed down okay. Whoever else was behind HIM though, was retarded/asleep... BOOM< CRUNCH> SMACK.

Yeah.

Called the OPP to report a multi-car collision... oh, just behind me, I'm fine.

Smartcar versus Hummer: which can hold the most furniture?

I bet the designers of the Smart didn't intend it to make every store into a drive-through! Upvoted for turn signals in the corridor - I wish some people at work had turn signals when they walk around!

Four-person pedal-car pulled over by the police

dgandhi says...

The problem with the police position on this is that it is based on the false assumption that the "car" is a motor vehicle, or for some unexplicable reason should be treated as such.

It is a human powered cycle. If it was not given the appearance of a car nobody would think it needs electrical turn signals, license plates etc.

As for stopping safety, it only goes 15km (about 10 miles)/hr and has brakes (I think he said it has 5 of them in the vid) and one of those breaks was good enough to a stop in the gallery in about a foot (we can see the mark).

Just consider, would the police reaction be valid if he removed the car body, but changed nothing else?

As for "The safety factor of it is... unsafe" this is true for any moving contraption, the police don't require all cars to be towed home because they might, and sometimes do, cause harm.

Cop gone wild- Lying and making threats just part of his job

Brett Darrow videoA motorist who refused to discuss his personal business with a St. George, Missouri police officer was threatened with arrest last Friday. Brett Darrow, 20, no stranger to unconventional encounters with police, caught a St. George Police Sergeant James Kuehnlein stating that he had the power to invent charges that would put Darrow behind bars. Update: Sergeant Kuehnlein was placed on unpaid leave Monday pending an investigation.

"Try and talk back... to me again," yelled Sergeant Kuehnlein. "I bet I could say you resisted arrest or something. You want to come up with something? I come up with nine things."

The incident began at around 2am. Darrow was to meet a friend who was working late and was going to pick him up. Darrow headed toward a 24-hour commuter parking lot in an unincorporated part of Saint Louis County in his 1997 Nissan Maxima. He put on his turn signal and entered the lot which, aside from Kuehnlein's cruiser, was essentially vacant. After stopping the car, the police officer approached and began questioning Darrow about what he was doing. When Darrow declined to discuss his personal business, the police sergeant exploded. Although the video clearly shows Darrow driving properly and using his turn signal, the police officer insisted that Darrow had broken the law.

"Oh, while you were coming towards me you were swerving back and forth within the roadway," Sergeant Kuehnlein said. "I might give you a ticket for that. You want me to come up with some more? When you turned in, you failed to use your turn signal, your right turn signal."

Without the video, Darrow tells TheNewspaper that he would have stood no chance disproving the officer's word in court. Twenty-eight percent of the St. George municipal budget comes from traffic citations. Darrow wonders how many of the tickets were legitimate.

"Looking into this guys eyes, he was crazy," Darrow said. "I was really scared he was going to assault me. I just wonder how many other people have been arrested on these charges."

After ordering Darrow against the car and searching him, Sergeant Kuehnlein released the motorist.
