PTSD incident.

chingalera says...

Ok firstly, after watching this video without having read your link (me neither)..

Does the driver look 'traumatized' to you? Does his girlfriend's calm, matter-of-fact voice at the end of the video reflect some state of state of 'trauma' or shock even??

Another question. Regardless of the wound-tight individual whose car was maligned in some way (I am supposing) IS NOT the cunt behind the wheel a flat-liner, or is he possibly just exercising his time-honored technique of passive-aggression that he seems to have honed in the most exquisite "I am a fucking asshole" fashion, right down to his horrible taste in clothing, and his smug, "I'm-right-and-you-are-obviously-insane, holier-than-thou-my-shit-driving-is-not-an-issue-with-anyone-but-you, fucking manner??

Think so? Yeah. They're all three of 'em, assholes and Yogi?? Perhaps he WAS raped at some point in his life....by himself.

This has a lot of information on it. It states that the two in the car were too traumatised (also uses the word terrified) to comment. It also says that the guy cut them off and brake checked them a few times before they finally collided on the 5th attempt.

Also, isn't it a bit dangerous to let people like that loose in society? I'm worried enough already that some lunatic will get 'roid rage and randomly attack me without provocation (there are so many young lads on steroids right now) without having to worry about trained killers doing it. With the greatest of respect to anyone that has fought for a moral cause, i didn't necessarily ask them to do it in my name, nor should that be cause to expose people to the danger he poses.

How the Media Failed Women in 2013

Trancecoach says...

There is no taboo in discussing the "rape worthy" contents of media portrayals when it comes to the depiction of women, but there remains consistent and pervasive taboos when it comes to its comparability with men (despite the fact that, statistically speaking, men are far more likely to be the victims of rape than a woman is).

The silence on the issue is deafening, especially when you take into account that as many as 20% of male military veterans are the victims of sexual assault and trauma. Where's the depiction of this alongside its concomitant "warrior" culture depictions throughout the media which in fact breeds the very aggression which perpetuates it?

<crickets>

Moreover, where is the cognizance of how the media perpetuates the stereotypes of men which lead to greater proportions of men committing suicide? Or becoming homeless? Or suffering from crippling occupational injuries? Or dying in the line of duty? Or being alienated from their children/families while still being fully expected and legally obligated to support them financially?

I'd go so far as to say your very denial of these facts only serves to further underscore how commonplace it is to cater to the oppression of women, while continuing to perpetuate the ongoing subjugation and oppression of men.

I read through each individual link (jumped to conclusion and discussion on the scholarly piece), and I'm yet to find anything that's WORSE than "rape worthy"

I'm sorry, there is a reason women are still not allowed to drive in some countries: http://www.cnn.com/2013/10/26/world/meast/saudi-arabia-women-drivers/

And it's not because MEN are so oppressed.

How attached cats are to their owners?

CreamK says...

Speaking from my own experience, so skip if you need facts..

Depends on a cat but the ones that are brought up in an environment where it hasn't suffer any major traumas (note, i don't mean neglect or abuse, even a cat living in best possible conditions can get in accidents that change their behavior) tend to inspect everything new as priority one. Basically, if it's not with kittens, it's gonna check any new things or people as soon as possible. The difference how dogs behave is dramatic, they tend to keep owners as reference. Cats don't do that and it's all about pack mentality.

When the cat is rescued or had a accident, they tend to associate owners as more of a mother figure and sometimes are almost incapable to handle separation. I've had a few cats as guests and for healthy cat it's few seconds to touch, few minutes before it sits on your lap and few hours before it trusts you to pick it up. Even in the worst cases by day four you are among the humans it trust but it might require some trust building exercises.. (One that does the trick well is if the cat sits in owners lap, stranger sits beside the owner, humans interact normally, in calm voice, no sudden movements and don't take notice of the cat, sometimes for hours. Every time it's inborn curiosity wins.

Funnily, i haven't had the same effect with food which is in contrast on this study. "Healthy" cats pick up really really fast who hands out the sustenance and can ditch the owner in a heartbeat for a good meal.... If the stranger has softer lap, that's where the darn thing heads. Cat just chooses very simply the best available option and needs to be aware of all options so it's curious. I kind a like that quest for efficiency. A lot of signs of empathy are actually cat trying to do what it can so that it's owner returns to normality; you cry, it comes rubbing on you. Not because of love but simply "won't you shut the f#¤% up".

But i've seen cats with their owners and they sure do love them. It' just that cats love is inclusive rather than exclusive.

DOOM (Original DOS Version) Episode 1: Knee-Deep In The Dead

chingalera says...

The first game to that began the transformation of teens worldwide (and especially American kids) into future serial killers-Desensitization of blood, guts, trauma, and the handing of weapons-Start 'em young, and they'll run straight into a wall-

Oh but viiiideo games don't promote violence and have NO effect on imprinting or the psyche...Yeah. Keep thinking that shit.

Wait till the suspension of disbelief regarding civilization and society slam them in the ass and watch 'em switch-on. All it will take will be a nudge-

Meanwhile in Australia...snake windshield wipers

chingalera says...

I know man, snakes and spiders...Most everyone has that unfounded fear of these..... Must have been some trauma as a kid is all I can guess.

My only beef with any reptile or insect is with the American/Oriental cockroach. When I see one in my home it is imperative that I kill it or exhaust myself looking for it before going to bed. When I was 10, I was woken abruptly after having just fallen asleep by one crawling across my mouth, the source of my obsession. (oh fuck, now the NSA knows what to put in Room 101 to get me to confess!)

Plus, the little bastards are smart, wily, and calculated. Can't have that sonofabitch wandering around while I sleep!

I was kinda hoping that his sun roof was open and that the wipers would fling the snake inside. Then he'd have a reason to scream like a little bitch.

Father Arrested for Picking Up His Children on Foot

poolcleaner says...

This is insanity. Rules for the sake of what? I don't get it. Authority -- F all authority unless it serves the people. It must serve the people. Sometimes the people want crazy shit but it doesn't serve them so we put up rules to protect people from themselves. But this is not one of those cases. This makes ZERO sense.

And a special needs child to boot. My god. The cold hand of authority that doesn't understand the damage their world does to the ego of a special needs person, not just special needs child, because what is a child and an adult? Someone without the understanding that an average human has does not deserve this type of torture.

And it IS torture. Serve mental torture that we don't truly understand. Good job, officer trauma creator. You really do us all proud. Oh thank god for police officers -- to serve and protect as usual!

How We Deal With Thieves in Brazil

newtboy says...

I don't know what world you're living in today, but "immediate trauma care" is OBVIOUSLY NEVER free in the USA. It's also not "top notch" by any method of evaluation I've ever seen. They do offer it to people who can't afford to pay for it, and who have no insurance, but they still bill them and expect those bills to be paid. Thousands upon thousands of people are broke and/or bankrupt because of emergency room bills. In the end, those of us who DO pay our bills end up paying for those who don't (or can't), but the hospitals and their collections agencies still pursue the indigent. That's not "free".
That's why a single payer system was a conservative idea originally (before they went bat shit crazy), it forced everyone to take SOME responsibility for their own healthcare (as part of their taxes), eliminating all freeloaders (except for complete tax dodgers).

Taking the side of the police because you assume they obey reasonable or legitimate rules of engagement, is also a fool's fucking errand, moreso every minute that passes.

Police will eventually, regardless of what ever morality or ethics they began their career in law enforcement with, WITNESS A FELONY AND COVER FOR ANOTHER SHIT HEAL COP.

"Stun Cuffs" The New Shock Collar For The Sheeple

chingalera says...

Whoa man, oubliettes don't necessarily fit in your list of first-world oppression techniques-I's a small percentage of evil-doers that use the ol' lotion-and-bucket pit.

You forgot brass knuckles and black jacks-My healthiest fears involve permanent damage through hardly-noticeable, soft-tissue trauma.

Stephen Colbert: Super Reagan

cosmovitelli says...

Reagan was just the first stooge hired by the remnants of the Nixon administration. (By Bush Snr {his head of the CIA}, Donald Rumsfeld {2nd in command of the CIA} & Dick Cheney {3rd in command of the CIA}).

Literally an actor. And a 3rd rate cowboy actor at that (only for domestic & retarded audiences).

BTW Dubya was next & a gift to these fellas, none of them dumb enough to be the man out front making excuses.

They decided that a few million dead kids was fine if it swelled the family pile by 20%. Vietnam, East Timor, Iran Chile etc etc etc etc
.....Does anyone really know how much bank Cheney made from the slaughter/'rebuilding' in Iraq? A billion? 10 billion? 100 Billion? Will any American ever ask? Guess not.

In the future analysis of this time, these men will be held up worse that than Hitler, Stalin & Genghis Khan for sure. Their crimes are comparable in every way (especially the massive piles of dead kids) but without the personal trauma to explain psychosis. The US government of the last 50 years consists of the richest, fattest, most privileged men ever to live in millions of years of humanity, and yet they've committed the worst crimes of all time. Millions dead, crippled, traumatized, orphaned.
Is it their fault or the fault of those around them who do nothing or worse; cheer?

The 'Genocidal Stupidity' of the Catholic Ban on Condoms

cosmovitelli says...

Look at shinyblurry- smart but clearly crippled by unhelpful dogma that has exacerbated rather than reduced the inherent existential trauma in being a conscious organism apparently spontaneously existing in a mindbogglingly vast and uncaring Universe (even these minimalist words are necessarily reductive). He can justify bombing, spreading aids and even openly destroying the environment for personal economic gain to accelerate the 'day of judgement'. (No joke, all in HIS posts on THIS SITE).

Also, you should learn more about the Jonestown massacre before speaking so causally about people desperate enough to knowingly drink poison and give it to their children in the hope that it will somehow make things better.

You need to start making more sense fast Yogi or those with brains are going to consider you a fool and stop wasting time on you.

Going to the Doctor in America

ChaosEngine says...

Actually, I think people have been pretty good about attacking your arguments. I'm sorry if you feel persecuted, but you can't expect to make blatantly wrong statements and not get called on it.

The placebo effect is real, but it is also limited. Show me a study where the placebo effect has managed to make someone with type 1 diabetes produce insulin. I did actually look for one, but couldn't find anything.

As to your assertion that traumas can "point to something the individual should learn about how to live their lives", that is nonsense.

What lesson should a pedestrian that was hit by a drunk driver learn?

Or maybe people who play contact sports should learn to just sit on the couch?

Thanks for all the personal attacks and presumptions. It's... distracting.

Look into the placebo effect - the power of a peron's beliefs. It is a very real, demonstrable, repeatable effect. And it has far more efficacy than most medications being produced.

In a way, the diabetes isn't the problem, but is one more symptom of the actual root of the problem. Runny noses, fevers, sore throats, lesions, pain - even traumas such as broken bones, cuts, and bruises - none of these are the problems themselves, but mere symptoms which point to something the individual should learn about how to live their lives.

If the term 'controlled' is more fitting for you, then so be it. But yes, even type 1 diabetes can be eliminated. Look into the placebo effect - the power of a peron's beliefs. It is a very real, demonstrable, repeatable effect. And it has far more efficacy than most medications being produced.

Diabetes is no exception. Nor is cancer.

If you treat the 'issue' as something that's intrinsic, genetic, inevitable, and beyond the power of the individual to control or cure, you've essentially doomed that person to blind random fate. I prefer to place the power and thus responsibility for healing squarely on the shoulders of the one who's experiencing the problem. That makes far more sense to me than placing that power and responsibility into the hands of insurance companies, governments, congressmen, doctors, or choas.

Oh, and since you bring it up, Cacao (not chocolate) may in fact help diabetic symptoms! :-D Not really sure, haven't done much research on that one.
