Did it ever occur to you that maybe she was requiring his cooperation in demonstrating what exactly she did wrong? Maybe showing her the tape or some form of proof of her violation could also be considered cooperation?

Did it ever occur to you that maybe the cop is not required by any stretch of the law to provide proof of ones alleged wrongdoing during a traffic stop? Maybe thats what courts are for?

GARLAND — A pursuit that lasted 90 minutes and stretched through at least three cities ended with a violent collision at a Garland intersection Monday afternoon.

The chase began in Mesquite following a traffic stop by Dallas County Constables. It was not immediately clear what triggered the decision to pursue the driver, but there were indications that the man was wanted on felony warrants.

The Nissan's sedan eluded a phalanx of squad cars at speeds up to 100 mph on a back-and-forth route that included Interstate 30, LBJ Freeway and local streets. The suspect has been named as Shane Michel.

At one point, the he skidded out of control on a highway exit ramp and struck a highway sign head-on. The sign flipped over the car and shattered the car's rear window, but the driver kept going across a grassy median and resumed his flight.

Later, the car crashed through lowered gates at a DART light rail crossing in Garland.

A Dallas police helicopter and at least eight squad cars from several agencies were involved in the pursuit, which ended abruptly at the corner of Plano Road and Buckingham Road in Garland when Michel pulled in front of a pickup truck.

His sedan was struck on the driver's side door and skidded to a stop about half a block away. Paramedics used equipment to extricate him from the wreckage. He survived, but was injured. His condition at present is critical.

The driver of the pickup truck did not appear to be seriously hurt.

Kathryn Winkfein a 72 year old woman was tasered during a traffic stop last month. She is now pressing charges against the police officer. Watch video of the incident and read more about this story here.

Kathryn Winkfein is a 72 year old woman, a great grandmother, and what most would think of as a sweet little lady. She was pulled over for speeding last month, in Travis County, Tex. by Deputy Chris Bieze. Apparently she did not want to sign the ticket, got into a bit of an argument with the officer and dared the cop to use the taser on her.

Officer Bieze and the 72 year old woman went back and forth, and he warned her if she did not step back, he would use the taser, and that is what he did.

The department is standing behind Officer Bieze, saying the officer acted properly in a “dangerous situation.”

Meanwhile, 72 year old Winkfein told her side of the story to her local Fox station, MyFox7, saying “I wasn’t argumentative I was not combative, OK? This is a lie, all of this is a lie. Pulled away from him, I did not.”

Cops Kill Mentally Challenged Teen Using "Non-Lethal" Force

Sorry, I don't care what the medical definitions are; "learning disability" and "mentally challenged" are two very different things in the eyes of the average person. The title is misleading.

I don't know about that, besides..

I'm pretty sure 'mentally challenged' is a valid description for someone who hasn't committed any crimes and has no criminal record but decides to run from the cops on a simple traffic stop.

EMT: Trooper's Dash Cam Will Clarify Everything
http://www.ktul.com/news/stories/0509/627284.html

Tulsa - The paramedic involved in a confrontation with an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper caught on a cell phone camera says he doesn't expect any charges to be filed against him.

Maurice White, Jr. is the critical care paramedic seen in the video that has created quite a stir not only here in eastern Oklahoma, but all over the nation.

The video shows the aftermath of a traffic stop that took place while the Creek Nation ambulance was taking a patient suffering from heat exhaustion to the hospital. The ambulance was pulled over by the trooper because troopers say the driver failed to yield to his patrol car.

...................

White posted a message on NewsChannel 8's message board Friday morning, responding to the many questions our viewers have had.

He says quote, "I assure you that time and the trooper's dash cam will clarify everything."

He says the reason he got out of the ambulance in the first place was because he believed a person in the trooper's car was in need of medical attention.

"It was the fact that the trooper was approached at such a high rate of speed, and driving so erratically, I assumed that the woman in the front seat of the cruiser dressed in civilian clothing needed immediate help," white says. "That is why I initially stepped from the rear of the unit."

Troopers have accused White of assaulting them prior to the confrontation caught on the cell phone camera. That's something only the trooper's dash camera may be able to clarify.

You don't know what the ambulance was doing.. A speeding ambulance that runs unsafely through the intersection is much more of a danger to more people then some traffic stop.

Of course if it is critical condition they discover, they should escort ambulance to hospital and then deal with nonsense.

Lights and sirens do not mean you can break the law, regardless of what cops think.

Wow, more mj dispenses than starbucks, that's a lot!

I am in oregon and under an ounce is very minor, I don't smoke(anymore) but the people I know that do(and that's a lot) are very normal.
If law enforcement can smell mj on a traffic stop, and then go from there(meaning enforce dui), I don't see what the problem with full legalization would cause! If people use in the privacy of their homes, that is their business.

Cop Fights For His Life Against Ex-Pro Boxer

Note, this is not THE Darroll Wilson:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darroll_Wilson

This is: Darryl M. Wilson
http://chronicle.augusta.com/stories/013102/met_192-6615.001.shtml

When Darryl M. Wilson takes his psychiatric medication, he's as good as gold, his wife and supporters told a judge Wednesday.

But the problem is that he won't stay on the medicine, Judge Albert M. Pickett said in Richmond County Superior Court, while trying to decide what sentence Mr. Wilson should receive for crimes related to a videotaped attack of a Richmond County deputy.

"When he's not taking his medication, he is a threat to the community. He's a big, strong man. He is capable of and has demonstrated that he can hurt people badly," Judge Pickett said.

The problem is that nothing can be done to ensure Mr. Wilson is medicated every day, the judge said.

On Aug. 10, 2000, Deputy Shannon Mitchell saw Mr. Wilson drive through a red light. A video camera on the deputy's cruiser captured the traffic stop and subsequent violence on tape: Mr. Wilson attacked Deputy Mitchell and continued to do so after the deputy blasted him with pepper spray and shot him in the stomach.

The worst moments came when Mr. Wilson wrestled away the officer's gun, pointed it at him and fired, Deputy Mitchell testified in August.

"If not for the gun jamming, the state believes Deputy Mitchell would have been killed," Assistant District Attorney Jason Troiano said Wednesday.

After a bench trial in August, Judge Pickett found Mr. Wilson guilty but mentally ill. That finding requires state prison authorities to house Mr. Wilson in a facility that can provide psychiatric treatment.

Defense attorney Sam Sibley asked the judge to consider the time Mr. Wilson has spent in jail since his Aug. 10, 2000, arrest. He also told the judge how well Mr. Wilson does while medicated.

Judge Pickett imposed a 10-year prison sentence on Mr. Wilson, followed by an additional 17-year probationary sentence.

While on probation, Mr. Wilson must undergo mental health treatment, take his medicine, and submit to drug and alcohol screening and to voluntary commitment to a mental health facility at least twice a year.

Mr. Wilson gave a long and at times rambling statement Wednesday, beginning with an apology to Deputy Mitchell. He was off his medication that day, he said.

"(Satan) tricked me. He tried to kill me and Shannon Mitchell," Mr. Wilson said.

Rather Odd Traffic Stop - Something Wrong With Photo ID

Dog risks own life to try to save another dog

Lolthien says...

Of course its touching, any dog would try to keep its pack together if possible. But it's also incredibly sad because unlike humans that understand why their friend is dying (he got hit by a car) dog's have no understanding of that, and the dog is just as likely to get killed himself.

This is almost (but not quite) as bad as the video from India or somewhere, where all the ridiculous traffic stopped after one of two dogs got hit, and everyone got out of their cars and stood videotaping and taking pictures of an obviously scared to death and frightened dog who was waiting for his packmate (or any human) to simply give him some idea of where to go or what to do. That was just plain cruelty.

This is slightly different because it's in the middle of a freeway (or so i take it, like I said, I haven't seen it) but still, I'm not going to subject myself to watching this.

For some reason, loyalty in dogs is one of the few things that can make me sob like a baby.
