Rocketboom Oil Slick - Fly Over of the Gulf Oil Spill

Sleepy and cute kitten is sleepy and cute

PC Magazine Apple iPad Video Review

blankfist says...

It's a big iPod Touch. Quaint. Here's my Pros/Cons just looking at it.

Pro:
1. Apple's touchscreen is the best. Hands down. Very responsive.
2. It's a touchscreen television. That's kind of cool. Hell, it's probably the future.
3. The games and apps are nice. I doubt you'll find any hardcore games interested.
4. Price point. It's not "Apple" expensive.

Con:
1. Not a true browser. No Flash.
2. How often did you read books on your laptop? Exactly. I don't care if you can swipe the paged with your fingers; it's too bright. There's a Kindle for that.
3. It's not portable enough to buy for music.
4. Typing on it looks impractical. Seriously, would you really do spreadsheets on that thing?

If I wanted a portable TV, it's probably okay. Other than that, I'll stick to my laptop.

Richard Shindell - You Stay Here

calvados says...

http://www.richardshindell.com/index.php?page=songs&display=100%22

You stay here
And I'll go look for wood
Do not fear
I'll be back soon enough
Do not let the fire die
Neither let it burn too bright

You stay here
And I'll go look for bread
And if I can
Some sugar for the kids
Dry your eyes - I'll be alright
I know where they've laid the mines

You stay here
And I'll go look for coats
There may still be
Some out on the road
We'll wash them clean with melted snow
The kids don't ever have to know

You stay here
And I'll go look for guns
I think I know
Where they've hidden some
Cause if the Tiger comes one night
We won't go without a fight

You stay here
And I'll go look for God
Not so hard
Cause I know where he's not
I will bring him back with me
Make him listen - make him see

You stay here
And I'll go look for wood

Elysian Fields - Jack in the Box (Live TV performance)

MrFisk says...

It's been seven years now, living in this box
Closed in on all sides, no light, just dark
He kept me under the bed, I'd pray for it to stop
He'd lock me safely away, and lie on top
Pop the latches open the hatches
Out comes Jack in the box
Doing tricks and taking licks
Out comes Jack in the box
I was an uncut marionette hanging by steel cable threads
I was a shadow dancer a thousand shades of red
There's too much light it's far too bright
I see things much too clearly
There's too much light, it's far too bright
Weary, oh so weary
If this is all of life outside
Please put me where I am happy
Where I won't know what to think of this
Black in black, almost sleeping
Pop the latches open the hatches, out comes jack in the box
Doing tricks and taking licks, out comes jack in the box
Please lock me up
Shut me up
Shut up your jack in the box

Zinn: Three Holy Wars That Cannot Be Criticized

maby this onyl aplie sin usa its not the case in uk , not with a number of people i know. its gneraly acepted that killing people is not constructive howevr justified it might seem

Wonderful speech. While I would agree the US is guilty on all counts, it does not stand alone by any means in the field.

UK (Tony Blair and gang) went into Iraq, giving the US their total support in that sham of a war. The UK had, and is currently involved in many joint US operations (some overt, most covert). Far more than most of us even realize.

To claim the UK is innocent of global domineering activities is incorrect. Lest we forget British history within past centuries. Occupation of India, Africa, Australia, and elsewhere during the colonial era. The number of non-conformist 'heathens', non-Christian 'natives', the 'uncivilized' if you will... who died for standing up to those who wished to exploit them for their resources... their slave labor. All for the benefit of the 'mother land'. Human capital expended for the benefit of the very few 'well to do'.

I for one would counter, that the UK proved to be a strong example for other strong, domineering nations to follow. Beyond the invasionary, exploitation mentality of the Roman Empire.. the UK is a strong contender for top prize. Taking into account all factors, extent of the empire, wealth taken, percent of resultant dead per population.

The cards are now in the hands of the USA. The question we should be asking is.. will the USA abuse that power, or use it wisely?

To think the US will maintain it's superiority indefinitely is completely naive. All great empires eventually end are are superceded by another. The USA has existed mere centuries. The Roman empire thousands of years.

For a bit of a play on words. A flame that burns too brightly will not burn as long. While I do believe the USA at it's core is good intentioned, it is those in power who have sway. How they exercise that power is what matters. So far, I have not seen much to change the path we are on.

We need to stop being shortsighted, and see the greater picture. As Howard Zinn stated. "Who Benefits?". It is a simple question... often with a very easy answer. Oil my friends. Iraq is all about Oil. Not 'good intentions'.

emotion in animals continued (Pets Talk Post)

blankfist says...

Yeah, I thought it was a foregone conclusion animals experienced emotions. Part of the master/animal relationship is based on fear and reward. But, certainly, just because you experience emotions doesn't mean you have a grasp of reason, and certainly I wouldn't confuse instinctual intuition with reason.

I've heard from many animal lovers that dogs or cats are just as smart as us if not smarter. If this were so, my cat would've packed his Meow Mix and set off on his own years ago. He would've learned to build a complex structure for him to live. Et cetera. Et Cetera.

I do love animals. They are sweet, empathetic, wonderful creatures, and also none too bright.

Average IQ by Blue vs Red State, Religious vs Atheist

joedirt says...

Yeah, WTF was that countries vs. IQ thing. Is it possible it was testing literacy??? Or english skills, because it went from 100 to 60....

Am I really to believe that half the countries on that chart consists of literal retards??
You do know one stdev is like 25 to 28. So an average of all people in a country is REALLY going to be very much closer to the middle.

Do people who think they are so smart ever think about anything? Any common sense? I guess the lesson is the self-rightous, better-than-thou are not too bright.

The Worlds Smartest Man Works in a Bar (Fascinating)

10419 says...

When he talks about finding some one who is smarter than him, he says "I wouldnt necessarily give him (sexist, jk) an IQ test. I would look at what he has produced."

Dawrin may have had an IQ of 135, but he sure got every ounce out of it; practically inviting the scientific feild of biology. with an IQ of maybe 200, he isnt too bright by his own deffinition; criticizing the academic world while working at a bar for 20 years. Brilliant, thanks for contributing to the human race.

I think part of being smart is not just knowing your IQ but knowing how valuable it is and actually doing something with it. I watched all three parts and found it incredibly frustrating.

wow, must know the secrets behind that DSLR camera settings. What does DSLR stand for anyway?

Just Amazing quality, goddamn.

D is digital. SLR is single-lens-reflex. SLR has come to mean a high end camera with interchangeable, standard format lenses. The things that really distinguish them from point and shoot cameras are fast auto-focus and low shutter latency, larger sensors for less noise or higher dynamic range, and larger lenses for more light / variable depth of field. The viewfinder looks straight through the actual lens and tends to be larger than those on point and shoot cameras (if they even have them). The use of a viewfinder instead of a LCD preview saves a huge amount of batteries - SLRs will easily shoot all day. The lack of a LCD preview can be disadvantageous, though -- you might have less idea of which parts of the image will be too bright / dark. SLRs are also typically higher resolution but that's the least relevant difference. SLRs typically let you shoot in "raw" mode which encodes the higher dynamic range that the sensors capture, but I think this feature is migrating to point and shoot cameras as well. Advanced features include hardware image stabilization, either in the camera body or the lens, and various tricks to keep dust off the sensor.

Elliott Smith - Twilight (Live)

alien_concept says...

Haven't laughed this hard in a long time
I better stop now before I start crying
Go off to sleep in the sunshine
I don't want to see the day when it's dying

She's a sight to see
She's good to me
I'm already somebody's baby
She's a pretty thing
And she knows everything
But I'm already somebody's baby

You don't deserve to be lonely
But those drugs you got won't make you feel better
Pretty soon you'll find it's the only
Little part of your life you're keeping together

I'm nice to you
I could make it through
That you're already somebody's baby
I could make you smile
If you stayed a while
But how long will you stay with me, baby?

Because your candle burns too bright
Well, I almost forgot it was twilight
Even if I think that you are right
Well, I'm tired of being down, I got no fight

You're wonderful
And it's beautiful
But I'm already somebody's baby
And if I went with you
I'd disappoint you too
Well, I'm already somebody's baby
Already somebody's baby

The Blue Lagoon

I think I've seen this movie back when I was little. The two kids aren't too bright though, they seem to be pretty oblivious towards a lot of things.
