Disney Snow Simulation

EvilDeathBee says...

Frozen was just awful. After the great fun of Tangled, I was really surprised at this level of garbage, and especially surprised at the Rotten Tomatoes score. Even my girlfriend thought it sucked and she adores all things Disney

Molten Lava Melts A Can of Chef-Boyardee

chingalera says...

What's real sad is is that those meatball-like spheres in Spaghetti-O's are like little edible crack rocks swimming in nasty tomato sauce. Wish they'd sell cans of only their mystery meatball-like units and place them on the shelf right next to Vienna Sausages

Betcha this wouldn't happen to the far superior Spaghetti-O's.

Well, yes, but so are tomatoes and potatoes. (In this climate, anyway. One seasons and they're toast.)

Everyday Products You've Been Using Wrong

braschlosan says...

I get what you're saying and I fucking love it.

However I am the weird guy who asks for a water cup at El Pollo Loco and fills it with a mix of avocado sauce and diced tomatoes and then eats it. Or at a mexican place I'll get a pile of Pico De Gallo and eat it like a salad. I also drink the liquid from a jar of green olives.

Wait, people eat just apple sauce?

Is that like dessert after your ketchup entree, a main course of horse radish, and a warm glass of gravy?

Natural Ketchup

worthwords says...

sugar is a natural preservative - it has been used to make just about every relish known to man in order to compliment and balance out other preservatives such as strong acids in vinegar and of course saltyness.
Tomatoes in particular can be very acidic and it's common to use sugar to even out the taste as some varieties of toms are more acid than others and there will be varying ripeness.
Ketchup is a concentrated tomato paste so you are getting 'refined' sugar from somewhere - e.g either added or from sugars in the sweet tomatoes themselves.
I'm not saying that there isn't too much sugar added to food, but there is a reason for using it in cooking. If i'm making home made ketchup - it often needs a pinch or two of sugar to mellow the acidity.

Candidate Obama vs President Obama on Government Surveillanc

@choggie

We are great at throwing tomatoes from the mezzanine, but what would we do if we found ourselves on stage when the lights come up. Who knows? Who cares? Let's throw more tomatoes! ....and I say this as one who has thrown many a tomato at Bush, Hillary, McCain and Mitt Romney.

If the way we do national security is a problem, then it's systemic, because the NSA pretty much done nothing else but collect intelligence 24-7 for the last 60 years.. They've used the system as it was intended to be used, yes, but they've also abused the system.

I'm sure there will be much caterwauling in 2016 about invasion of privacy, but once the dust settles, the crown will still weigh heavy with the burden of national security, and President Hillary, or Ryan, or Rubio, or Paul will find themselves backsliding into old way out of sheer necessity.

Same as it ever was.

If there is a problem with the way we do national security, we aren't going to fix it by calling people cunts and dramatically intoning high school level literary allusions. If we are going to fix it, it will require thought, discussion and hard choices.

Let the rest of them throw tomatoes while you and I fix this fucking system. What do you say, old sport?

President Choggie, how would you restructure the NSA in such a way that it can remain effective at it's job whilst minimizing potential for abuse?

Mexican Cuisine in California

shagen454 says...

There are many misconceptions of Mexican Cuisine. I am probably one of many that apart of this misconception. I have noticed many Indian and Thai restaurants have Mexicans cooking those respective cuisines, not because they are cheap labor but because they are diverse in their respective trades.

"Mexican" food is popular all over but the Taquerias in San Francisco are well known around the US and locally. But, the food served in the Taquerias are actually a San Franciscan cuisine. The San Francisco burrito is just that. It was made here, it is an American food influenced by Mexican cuisine but geared towards us gringos. This is not necessarily true for everything on the menu of course.

Regardless, it is very good. Surprisingly, one of my favorite "Mexican" food spots is in a very industrial area of Oakland in the form of a food truck. You would never know it by the taste of the food. IT IS AMAZINNNNNNN!!! Amazingly tasty fresh salsa. a secret spicy salsa, great beans, great tortilla, tomato friend rice, carne asada to scream for. The best tacos I have ever had in Cali and a burrito that rivals SF's best and they do it everyday, so it is not a fluke and it takes place on a truck.

I grow them too, but still end up buying huge quantities of fresh and tinned tomatoes, so the commercial growers really have nothing to fear from the competition

I should plant some strawberries... they are wonderfully weed-like plants, and like the weather here more than tomatoes and chillies do.

I do in fact grow my own tomatoes, its a fun hobby on the porch I have 10 tomato bushes on my porch, I grow them in bushes, since they can take a bit of abuse and still produce a ton of tomatoes, I get around 10-15 tomatoes per bush and as long as I keep them up they last forever, I bring them indoors to storage room in winter and they still produce about a 1/4th of their normal spring/summer batch. Anyhow main reason I started growing tomatoes is at the grocery store where I live we have only 1 store in a 50 mile radius so there is no competition and we get price gouged 4 tomatoes at store is 5.99. 1 gallon of milk is 5.49 which is funny 1 gallon of milk is 50 cents cheaper than 4 tomatoes... it's pathetic though. So a lot of people in town have started "porch" gardens. It saves a lot of money on herbs, spices, and some vegetables.

Most people are too lazy to grow their own stuff so I really don't think that's relevant. People can grow tomatoes but how many actually do? They just buy them at the store.

Well man, you really can't go wrong with Huevos Rancheros-That sauce was a hit, but it was a concoction following your framework, a reduction in that little skillet you see next to the one I'm working with-Had to add the tomato and g.onion saute, always that or salsa with rancheros.....
