NASA Samarai Hybrid-Electric VTOL Personal-aircraft Concept

chingalera says...

NASA aerospace engineer Mark Moore says a key objective with Samarai is to achieve propulsion redundancy all the way out to the tips of the prop-rotors. One way this is achieved is by using short-range laser scanners at each corner of the vehicle to watch for potential blade strikes and quickly stop the affected prop-rotor before impact.

He says a test rig was built that showed electric motors can be stopped in any position "incredibly quickly", especially given each single-blade rotor's small size and low weight. The result is a compact configuration, although there is some wasted rotor thrust from download on the wings, Moore says.

How Sifter CHINGALERA Treats His Toys!!!

chingalera says...

SO the set-up for this one take was

1 Col. George Taylor POA Heston doll (Snapped on E-Bay when Heston died, new -in-box)
1-paper cut-out Statue of Liberty lower, left frame)
2-Estes D rockets, duct-taped to back
1-scavenged fuse from leftover Chinese sky-candy
1-Micro-cassette recording of National Anthem (Foley)
1 FUJI Finepix F1000

The tree-bounce-around is off-camera....only one recording of that so here it is: As soon as he leaves frame he's in the tree and barley freed himself of the tangled bounce in the top before ditching in the pond at full throttle-Had he made air he had about 40 feet up inna swirl before thrust would have pooped-out.

...done this before so any way it could have gone might have-

Incredible Helicopter Crash Caught On Camera -Top Gear Korea

Shepppard says...

Not too sure what the pilot was thinking, even with my mediocre knowledge of flight and how it works, I could easily see that he entered into a slip.

He was waaaay too low to turn the chopper the way he did, and because the thrust was pointed away from the ground, it literally "slipped" out of the air for a few seconds, getting him danger close to the ground.

Hello Kitty in space

My own personal penchant for launching stuff into space has never died...The stuff we used to do would get us put on the terrorist watch list nowadays.

Estes, inc. has had quite a deal of business from me over the years!

I never bothered building many rockets but utilized the thrust from their engines to launch many a stuffed animal!

That's effin awesome. I love homemade space projects like this, most especially when there's a child at the helm.

I just can't wait to do awesome science stuff like this with my boys.

Puppy Determined To Get On Treadmill

Maybe you should reconsider just what "succinct" means, before you start insulting people who disagree with you.

The entire thrust of your comment was an implication that it's perfectly reasonable to outlaw pit bulls. And you're wrong, it's as simple as that. public flogging or pillorying the people who abuse them, and make that action widely known, and you'd have a lot few abused dogs who are vicious (of any breed).

In the meantime, I don't have time to spare on assholes, so if you intend to continue behaving like one, please let me know.

It really is tiring having to explain a succinct comment. I suggest you try reading my comment again, s l o w l y, and you will, hopefully, see that i addressed your "points."

Young man shot after GPS error

harlequinn says...

It's a fact that you don't know if he would be alive or dead if their was no gun involved. It is also a fact you don't know if he was protecting himself with a sword that nobody would have died. Be especially mindful that the sword was the army's choice of murder weapon for several thousand years and is incredibly effective at killing people. A short sword thrust into the chest can do considerably more vascular damage than a lot of firearms.

Before committing a crime everyone is part of the good guy pool - it is the default situation.

In Australia we stop firearms ownership by those with criminal convictions and those with a history of mental illness. It is effective in stopping the legal ownership of firearms by those groups of people. The real kicker of course is those with a criminal bent simply ignore the rules anyway and buy illegal firearms. Additionally we have a nationwide free mental health system. This has proven it's worth many times over and should be adopted by the USA.

I think the focus should be on changing the USA's standards in regards to who can own firearms, how they are bought, how they are tracked, and how they are stored.

So the answer here is what...?

Larger fences
Gated communities
More lights on properties
Regular psychological evaluations for everyone owning a gun
Panic Buttons
Panic Rooms
Limit the use of guns
Limit the storage of guns in a home

Fact: No gun and the kid would still be living.
Fact: If he was protecting himself with a sword, no one would have died.

How do you make the call on who is the good guy with the gun and who is the bad guy? This guy was the good guy, until he killed someone, now he's the bad guy. No gun = no bad guy.

Saying safe gun handles should get guns and everyone else gets them taken away doesn't work. Who makes that call?

This is more of a case where all the bad apples spoil it for the good apples while the good apples accidentally spoil it for the remaining good apples. In the end, you can't tell the good apples from the bad apples.

How Advertisers Failed Women in 2012

dapper says...

for me, only a few of these images felt offensive and degrading. But, the flip side of this is that there is plenty fo advertising that demeans men in similar (sex-sells) ways, or different (men as stupid / incompetent) ways. As for UsesProzac, there are plenty of short athletic women who feel attractive and know that they are sexy, regardless of the advertising stereotypes that are thrust at them. We are all sexy to someone...

Piers Morgan vs Ben Shapiro

GeeSussFreeK says...

I should point out that I agree with the thrust of this statement, just not the aim. People don't need unhealthy food either, but I would rather convince them rather than dictate it, if that makes any sense. 'Don't need' and 'shouldn't be allowed to possess' are 2 different arguments.

I would be interested in your argument for the non-possession of assault rifles. How will you justify it versus other things that are legal and demonstrably more lethal? Would the argument be consistent with the prohibition of drugs or alcohol, if not, how does it differ?

Then why do people, in the general public, need assault rifles?

Shelley Lubben On Abuse In The Porn Industry - (Very NSFW)

@BoneRemake Wow... total lack of fricken empathy there.

Can you not imagine that on these sets they just keep escalating the situation past what the woman thought she signed up for? Can you not for a moment imagine that the woman goes along with it as long as they can manage because, well, they are men and bigger and she needs the money, and maybe it'll be over soon?

From this very video there's a part where a woman says 'I don't do A2M'... so obviously someone tried that, and she hadn't signed up for it.

You're being an enormous dick if you can't see how women get into these situations thinking they're going to do just A B and C, and then D-Z get thrust upon them before they have much say in the matter.

Become more empathetic, it can help you in many ways.

Wow...I totally misread your post then.

There really is/was a problem with wage slavery, sometimes referred to as truck systems. But I think the only times I've heard about it recently were in regards to companies who bring illegal immigrants over (seems to be usually from Asia), and then manipulate pay and fees to make sure the immigrants can never get out of their "contract". It's definitely scummy, but it's not business as usual in America.

In this video, it seems the term "wage slavery" is pretty much BS, used just to help drum up emotions and try to get the word-of-mouth equivalent of webpage hits.

#1) I don't think slave owner's opinions of what's horrible and what's not is something I really give a shit about...they're not exactly role models when it comes to ethical behavior.
#2) The tactic of "keeping everyone striving to gain wealth forgetting everything but yourself", isn't really relevant to what I said, or even the general thrust of what I said, is it? At least I don't see how it has anything to do with the efficiency of specialization...
#3) I quite like the idea of labor-owned corporations. I think it makes far more sense than "capital-owned corporations". The only reason capitalists have such an unbalanced stranglehold on the economy, is that money is more liquid than labor...thus it's easier to bribe the legislators into passing laws that benefit the wealthy.

1. That was kinda the point. They're sooo horrible that they think Wage Slavery is demeaning, so how good must wage slavery be? It's just an example, that a lot of people agreed with back in the day.
2 and 3 I was just bolstering what I'm saying, Wage Slavery is bullshit and American economic culture is bullshit.
