Wow. Good to know. I played the demo and wasn't sure what to make of it. I think I'll give this one a go.

Heavy Rain was a great game. It's the first game I've ever played that had narrative on par with a good movie. The twists and turns were excellent and the fact that you can't reload the game if you kill your characters gives the game an intensity like no other. The game also has some very effective sensitive, intimate and emotional moments, which may be a plus or minus depending on whether or not you want that kind of stuff to be a part of your video gaming experience.
I normally don't care for quick-time events, but I found the style of implementation in this game to be very compelling. My only complaints would be that the movement mechanics were terrible (but not in a way that punishes you for missteps) and some of the European voice actors (who were very good) would occasionally slip into European accents, taking you out of the US based story.
This is my favorite game of the year so far, and it's also evidence that videogames are capable of telling interesting, sophisticated stories. Highly recommended for people who enjoy thrillers, crime dramas, mysteries or heavy suspense. It would probably also appeal to people who read books.

Well you sold me.
interesting cast and director.
You mean Nimród Antal? The guy who made the forgettable 2007 thriller Vacancy? But I agree the cast does look good.

I wanted to submit this! Would have titled it, "Hello Kitty meets Thriller meets Left 4 Dead."

Hawaii Five-O - by Not Bioware
'Thriller' works with everything.
Mercury passing in front of the Sun - Scene from "Sunshine"
I'm usually very lenient with my opinions of movies, I'll watch anything that flickers and usually like it. But I carry a single caveat with that, if the movie is amazing yet then goes spinning off to orbit planet "WTF?", then it most certainly loses any and all points for the awesome part. My reasoning is that if I can see that they've gone right off the rails, then the professional "filmmakers" should have seen it too.
With "Sunshine" it has all the traits of a gripping psychological thriller about how confinement and loneliness can effect the passengers of a spacecraft. Yet just when it is building to a unbelievably tense climax, it turns left and races head long toward the Ron Paul Nebula and crashes into the heart of the bat-shit crazy red super giant star. The entire plot line of the religious lunacy of Capt. Pinpacker should have been excluded entirely.
Refining Channels (1sttube Talk Post)
I too would like to see a refinement of the channels we have, I'm not certain that just cutting a heel and a toe is the best way to do it, though. I'd like to see some grand changes in it, maybe with subchannels where it's applicable, such as music -> genres. Or with more clear grouping in categories, like I (and many others) have suggested earlier.
The google categories are pretty good although talks is sadly absent :

The 49 Films That Will Define 2010 (Cinema Talk Post)

Predators... Seriously? Didn't we run this far enough into the ground 19 years ago with Predator 2, nevermind the AvP disasters?
I'd agree, except Predators is directed by Nimrod Antal, who did the surprisingly effective thriller Vacancy from a couple of years ago. Between that and his equally good debut feature, Kontroll, he's definitely on my radar in a big way (his next film, Armored, opens this weekend. I have high hopes, despite how long it's been sitting on the shelf).
Inception... need more info.
It's Christopher Nolan. That's all the info you need. Seriously, look at the man's filmography -- he can do no wrong. Just based on Nolan's involvement and that short teaser from a few months back, that's probably my most anticipated movie of next year.

I just watched The Midnight Meat Train... (Horrorshow Talk Post)
To be blunt, leave it on the shelf. There was a reason they decided not to give it a broad theatrical release. Basically I feel like I've been cheated out of 100 min. From the trailer it looks like it would be a decent thriller. Vinnie Jones was the lone bright spot, although he only had like 1 line of dialogue. I thought the idea wasn't bad, but the execution was. I wonder how these actors got sucked into this trainwreck?
It's like Jason Statham and co. in that Uwe Boll movie. I refuse to see it, but I assume Firefox is giving me a sign by only displaying "In the Name of the King: A Dung" in the top bar while viewing it's page on IMDB. OK, back to the meat train.
It was pretty much a let down for me in every way - plot, script, acting, character development, etc. Tons of blood and gore, but bad call (imho) to go with a lot of CGI that ended up looking silly, especially since they tend to really go over the top with the blood - like unbelievable amounts. The ending is...well, pretty much the same as the movie as a whole: terrible. I enjoy horror movies, even cheesy ones, but it's hard to enjoy something so painful to watch. And there you have it.
