Heavy Rain was a great game. It's the first game I've ever played that had narrative on par with a good movie. The twists and turns were excellent and the fact that you can't reload the game if you kill your characters gives the game an intensity like no other. The game also has some very effective sensitive, intimate and emotional moments, which may be a plus or minus depending on whether or not you want that kind of stuff to be a part of your video gaming experience.

I normally don't care for quick-time events, but I found the style of implementation in this game to be very compelling. My only complaints would be that the movement mechanics were terrible (but not in a way that punishes you for missteps) and some of the European voice actors (who were very good) would occasionally slip into European accents, taking you out of the US based story.

This is my favorite game of the year so far, and it's also evidence that videogames are capable of telling interesting, sophisticated stories. Highly recommended for people who enjoy thrillers, crime dramas, mysteries or heavy suspense. It would probably also appeal to people who read books.

Too bad Sony's God damned leap year bug caused me to lose every Trophy I had earned in Heavy Rain. 8 Hours or so down the drain. Otherwise I dig it too, but that really put a damper on it. Ah well, I'll get back to it after I get through God of War III.

The identity of the killer being the same is a good thing, no? It would be kind of detractive to the whole idea of a detective mystery if you're always right or always wrong, regardless of what conclusion your reach about whom the killer is, wouldn't it? If the entirety of the game experience revolves around the reveal of the killer, isn't that just poor computer game making?

There have been detective novels so interestingly narrated, that I've read them several times over the years. Knowing beforehand the killer's identity doesn't necessarily detract from the story being told.

Heavy Rain is the only PS3-exclusive game I can think of that I really, really wish I could play. Alas, I don't plan on buying a PS3 anytime soon. But the game looks great, and I don't mind that it's basically an interactive movie. Port it to the PC/360, dammit!

@Xax, buy yourself a PS3 slim, God of War 3, and Uncharted 2. Once you're done with those two games, buying the PS3 will seem like a damn smart idea, especially if you don't already have a bluray player.

Then you can do things like try Heavy Rain, Metal Gear Solid 4, Infamous, Ratchet & Clank Future, Resistance 2, and Gran Turismo 5 when it finally comes out.

Oh yeah, and Killzone 2, if you're into that sort of thing.

It is a good time to be a PS3 owner. It took them a while, but there is finally real value in the system. Aside from 360 exclusives like Mass Effect 2, I've pretty much completely switched over to my PS3. The 360 menu system is annoying and cumbersome. The XMB is sleek and easy to use.
