Anonymous voting is just an enticement for non-members to feel like they're participating and to get them to convert their non-real votes into real votes.

In the old VS, a message would pop up like "Great, you've started voting! Now sign up to make your votes count!" but I believe that doesn't happen anymore.

The votes don't affect anything. They're only in the user's browser who cast the vote, but if they sign up or sign in, those fake votes will be converted into actual votes.

Ultra-Pure Water Tastes Like Nothing And Can Kill You

ChaosEngine says...

If you just want to cool a drink without diluting it or changing the flavour, you want whiskey stones.

You should never put ice in good whiskey. The cold traps actually "closes the nose" (i.e. you can't smell it as well). Conversely, a drop or two of water in whiskey "opens the nose" (improves the aroma).

His idea is still a good one, making ultra pure ice cubes (or spheres) for perfect cocktails. You wouldn't be drinking enough pure water to worry about, and it would mix with the alcohol before you drink it anyway, so it would not be pure H2O anymore. The lack of taste and impurities would allow it to cool and dilute your drink without changing it's taste, exactly what you want in a cocktail ice cube. Even better that, if used without alcohol (or something impure), they're technically poison! Call them 'death cubes' or 'virgin ice' and you'll have trouble keeping up with demand!
Oh....wait....isn't that already a product?

You can buy a tin of it here: http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/5ac8/

It's fun to mess with but know up front that it will not look as spectacular as it does in this video. This is sped up quite a bit and has all sorts of great camera tricks going on. I am actually more intrigued by how they did their pans and sweeps during the timelapse. Presumably with some sort of slow-moving rigging system.

Best Buy vs Newegg - Funny Yet True

Crosswords says...

Bestbuy can sue newegg for using the word geek only if thinkgeek.com, can sue best buy for the same reason. Pretty sure they were around way before the whole 'geek squad' thing.

And slightly off-topic; I love newegg, and while some of the reviews are helpful, it helps even more to be knowledgeable enough to pick out who is having problems with the technology because they're stupid, and what problems are caused from a bad product.
